One of the highlights of my trip to São Miguel was joining a dolphin and whale watching tour from Ponta Delgada. The adventure begins at the marina, where you’ll board a speedboat and head into the Atlantic Ocean in search of some of the Azores’ incredible marine life. Our tour lasted around three hours, and within a short time we were surrounded by a playful pod of dolphins swimming alongside the boat. Watching them in their natural habitat was an unforgettable experience. Depending on the season, you may also have the chance to spot several whale species, sea turtles, and seabirds. Travel Tips: · Morning tours usually offer calmer sea conditions. · Wear a windbreaker, even on sunny days the ride can be cool and windy. · Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a camera with a zoom lens. · If you’re prone to seasickness, consider taking medication before departure. · Remember that these are wild animals, so every trip is different, making each experience unique. · The cost of this tour was around 55 EUR per person for a 3-hour adventure. 📍Departure: Ponta Delgada Marina, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal If you’re visiting the Azores, this is an experience I highly recommend. The heated water mixes with the cold water of the sea in a small cove to form a small natural thermal pool. The entrance to the natural pool is free. The timing of visit is vital if you want to experience an authentic Atlantic Spa at Ferraria. The best time to visit is between two hours before and after the low tide when the water is warm. During high tide the current may be too strong and the water is not warm enough. There are ropes for you to hold on as the Atlantic waves are very strong. One of the best bell towers I have climbed is in Ponta Delgada. We visited the bell tower at my nephew's request, and it turned out to be one of the top attractions on São Miguel Island. Standing at 29.6 meters, the bell tower was built in 1724 and reopened in 2013 after being closed for several years. If you are physically fit, you should not miss the chance to climb it, as it offers spectacular 360° views of the city from the top. The name of the restaurant, Baco, comes from the Roman god of wine. So you can expect a wide selection of quality wines to accompany your meal. A main course costs around 15 euros. We ordered catch of the day (fish) which was fresh and tasty. Steak was more expensive than the other dishes but tasted average. Kid's meal came with a soup, pasta and dessert. Trail starts at Fajã Grande's eastern lane, meadow → cliff edge → Poço do Bacalhau, a 95 m waterfall dropping into a turquoise pool. Swim allowed, 17 °C in Aug, freezing in Feb. Continue past the fall on the coastal shelf to Ponta da Fajã (another 3 km, rougher) if you want the full fajã circuit.
