2026 Candolim Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in August)

Getting There - It is one of the most famous beaches in north Goa. You can get there by cab/taxi, scooter/bike, etc. Attractions - There are different water sports available at the beach including (but not limited to) parasailing, jet-skiing, banana boat, etc. But my favourite part was to relax on the beach sun loungers, have a foot massage (available on the spot) and gorge on some delicious chicken kebab and beer. The night time was even better to end the day with a romantic dinner by the beach. Hotels - We stayed at Novotel Goa Resort & Spa which was a 10-minute walk from the beach. There are plenty of luxurious and budget hotel options available near the beach. Food & Restaurants - Lunch was better in the beach restaurants compared to dinner. Address - Pinto Waddo, Off Candolim Road Candolim, Goa, 403515, India Ambiance/Facilities - Ambiance was really good. Rooms were clean and cozy. The customer service was great. Staff were very humble. Breakfast was good but could have been better though. There was a play area for both children and adults with multiple games like chess, basketball, table tennis, badminton, etc., swimming pool and spa were great as well. Highlights - Swimming pool was massive and came with a small bar which was amazing. Location - The location is really convenient as it was quite near to Candolim beach which was about 10 minutes walk. If anyone wants to explore other beaches then cars were available outside the hotel. Aguada fort dating back to 16th century is situated in North Goa near to Candolim beach. The word 'Aguada' means freshwater in portuguese; as because there's a freshwater spring inside this fort which served as a replenishing spot for all the passing by portuguese ships🚢. There was a time, when this was the largest freshwater storage in Asia. Even today, this place is famous for movie shootings; as it provides a fantastic view of Arabian sea from the top of the hill. When it sounded the word hippie👻, the first thought in my mind comes is freedom. Candolim beach situated in Northern part of Goa state, is home for many foreigners too as it was a Portuguese colony before. There are so many amazing restaurants along the beach side, few good western cuisine🥘🌯 as well. As our beach hopping continued 😝 to find the best out there; Candolim is much promising in the aspect of water sports, relaxing and chillax whatever ! #overratedspots Fort Aguada has such a strong reputation that I expected to be completely amazed when I arrived. The old Portuguese architecture was interesting, and standing on the walls with the Arabian Sea in front of me was definitely memorable. Still, I noticed that most visitors finished exploring relatively quickly. There weren’t as many preserved interiors or interactive experiences as I had imagined, so the visit felt more like a scenic historical stop. The location immediately caught my attention, especially with the sea stretching out beyond the fort walls. However, the actual sightseeing was much quicker than expected. I enjoyed walking around and learning about its past, yet I felt the surrounding coastline was almost as memorable as the fort itself. This year we were planning a vacation, and completely by chance I saw a sale on Aeroflot tickets to Goa, India, on Aviasales. The price seemed almost unbelievable – just 7,000 rubles per ticket. "But you said you'd never go to India again?" my husband asked in surprise. And he was right. After our first trip with a tour operator, I was sure I'd hardly want to go back. But this time, everything was different. I decided to approach the choice of vacation thoroughly: I read reviews, studied beaches, compared hotels, looked at maps and photos. I got so carried away that instead of one hotel, we chose two. Since we were traveling with Platon, who is only four years old, active excursions weren't part of our plans. So we came up with our own adventure: stay in one hotel on one beach, and then move on to another. A short excursion the length of a vacation. Our first stop was the Marquis Beach Resort in Candolim. And it was there that India began to reveal itself to me in a completely different light. A clean, trash-free beach. You can walk to the sea through the hotel grounds in just 3-5 minutes. Cozy streets. Shops and cafes where no one grabs your hand or tries to sell you anything. A calm, relaxed atmosphere where you just want to live and enjoy the moment. We discovered a multitude of incredibly delicious dishes. And the Curry House restaurant was a whole other story. Platon became friends with the waiter Stefan. Every evening, Stefan greeted him like an old friend, treating him to ice cream, giving him tours of the restaurant, and playing hide-and-seek and tag with him. Sometimes it seemed as if Platon was looking forward to meeting Stefan more than dinner. In the mornings, we had breakfast at the hotel, watched by solemn herons leisurely strolling along the balconies of the hotel restaurant. A ten-minute walk away was an old fortress with stunning views of the sea and coastline. At some point, I caught myself thinking: I really like it here. Want to watch the video? But a second hotel and a completely different beach awaited us.

The name comes from "Shahapura," meaning "Shah's city." The site was a stronghold of the Bijapur Sultanate. The Portuguese, who had held the Bardez taluka since 1543, built a fort here on top of the remains of Adil Shah's old outpost to protect the colony's northern border. The fortress was captured twice by the Marathas—in 1684 under Sambhaji and in 1739; in 1717, the Portuguese rebuilt it and dug underground passages for supply and escape. In 1741, having annexed Pernem, they deprived the fort of any military value, and in 1892 they finally abandoned it. There is also a legend: Sambhaji's men supposedly scaled the walls clinging to five-foot-tall monitor lizards, and the commandant surrendered without firing a shot—but that's just a legend. Don't come here for the architecture: there are no halls, carvings, or exhibits. Almost nothing remains of St. Anthony's Church or the barracks, with only the mouths of underground passages and bastions with cannon embrasures visible. The view is worth the visit—the plateau overlooks the Chapora River estuary, the beaches of Vagator and Anjuna, and the open sea to the west. The best time to visit is in the evening, when the heat subsides; the climb is short, but on gravel, so footwear is essential. Arpora is the most wonderful town for a vacation in Goa, in my opinion! We came here before traveling through the mainland of India to get our bearings and fell in love 💗 The people here are incredibly friendly, the prices are reasonable, and transportation is very comfortable 🤍 Getting there from the airport: Air-conditioned buses cost 150 rupees per person to Mapusa. They depart every half hour starting at 8:00 AM. You can pay by card. From there, take a city bus to Arpora. Foreigners pay 50 rupees in cash. Alternatively, take a taxi to the hotel. We had 500 rupees, and I think we could have gone even cheaper. We stayed at a hotel away from the beach, which allowed us to have a quieter stay and take leisurely strolls in the evenings. Our favorite places to eat: Hartman - incredibly delicious vegetarian food for 220-250 rupees per serving (cash only) Oceana - near the beach. They offer fish, meat, and vegetarian dishes. We shared 2-3 dishes and rice for less than 1,000 rupees. You can pay by card. There aren't many supermarkets in the traditional sense here, but there's a Norm market near Oceana. The dogs and cows here deserve special attention 😍 The cows are kings. And the dogs understand the words "good dog" in all languages ​​and are incredibly friendly 😄😍 I'm afraid this place will change dramatically if a lot of foreigners come, but I can't help but recommend it to you ❤️❤️❤️#India #Goa #Arpora

We were very pleased with the weekend we spent at this hotel! The guests were friendly, the service was unobtrusive, and the breakfasts were small but fresh and delicious. We were especially pleased with the Smart TV; we enjoyed watching our favorite movies on the large screen. The rooms were cozy, with a private balcony, shampoo and soap in the bathroom, and a complimentary bottle of water upon check-in. The location is excellent, close to everything—restaurants, shops, the casino, and the beach. I highly recommend it!

Northern Goa is considered much cheaper than Southern Goa, but sometimes, when we visited certain cafes, it felt like the prices were Moscow-style and not at all budget-friendly. One such not-so-budget spot is the restaurant "Mikey's Place" in Candolim. 📍 North Candolim, Goa, India We arrived at the restaurant around 2 PM and were almost the only customers there. There was another table in the VIP area occupied. Upon entering, we were immediately asked if we wanted hookah, as they have a separate area for that. I first chose shrimp. It turned out they weren't able to cook it for a while. Then I chose squid – same story. Ultimately, we had to order chicken. Our food arrived simultaneously, about half an hour later. I liked not only the presentation of the dishes – they looked very appetizing and were beautifully decorated – but also the plates themselves. They were all in the same style and somewhat reminiscent of Gzhel pottery. The first dish we chose was Chicken Steak with Brown Sauce. Brown sauce is a cross between our "shashlik" and "teriyaki" sauce. We asked for this dish to be mild. The steak was tender and cut easily. The chicken was tender and chewy. The second dish was Deep-Fried Chicken Pieces. I specifically asked for the "spicy" dish, and that's exactly what they brought me. These were tender chicken pieces in batter, drizzled with a sweet and spicy sauce flavored with cilantro. We also ordered Deep-Fried Chicken Pieces, but not spicy. Excellent too!
