Unforgettable Day in Evora with an Exceptional Guide
We booked a day in Evora with Fernando, and it truly exceeded our expectations. Fernando is more than just a chauffeur—he’s part historian, part sociologist, offering deep insights into Portugal’s past and present. He has an amazing ability to tune into his guests’ interests and adjust the itinerary, either on the spot or in advance, to suit them perfectly. Our day included an unplanned stop at Setubal, where we visited the ancient hilltop fort of Sao Filipe. The fort provided breathtaking views of the Comporta beaches and the ocean—a hidden gem we wouldn’t have discovered without Fernando. We highly recommend spending at least a day or more with him!
#sunsetplaces Comporta is 1h15 from Lisbon via the A12/IC1 to Carvalhal then the dirt road to Praia da Comporta (free parking at the beach lot, no fee). The rice paddies line both sides of the road from Carvalhal to the beach — I biked from Carvalhal (rental €10/day, cash) at 7:20 p.m. in September (sunset 7:45). Stopped at the paddy edge 400m from the beach: the flooded fields mirrored the sky, the Atlantic dunes behind were a dark line, and the sun dropped exactly over the rice — the water went from jade to a sheet of hammered gold. A €1.50 queijada de requeijão from a Comporta shop. Mistake: going in August at 6 p.m. — the paddies are drained for harvest, no mirror, just mud. Another: driving the dirt road after rain — it's corrugated clay, car bottoms out. Rule: no walking into the paddies (private, heron nesting); no drones over the rice (farmer permission needed); the beach has a fire ban May–Oct. Opinion: Comporta's paddy glow is the only sunset in Portugal where the rice does the reflecting — the Atlantic is just the dark backing, the real show is in the flooded field. Discussion: when a rice paddy mirrors the sky better than the ocean, which one is actually the water?

This hotel made me cry on my birthday, in the best way possible.
I didn't plan a real trip or anything too elaborate for my birthday this year. Just a few days away from Lisbon, some sun, good food, and a hotel that actually felt like a place worth staying in. The Pearl Troia delivered all of that and then some.
The room is loft-style, which immediately sets the mood. High ceilings, generous space, the kind of layout that makes you slow down the moment you walk in. Not just a place to sleep, a place to actually be.
The breakfast is spectacular, the kind where you genuinely don't know where to start and end up going back three times. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, a well-equipped gym, a beautiful lounge, and a restaurant and bar that make it easy to never want to leave the property.
But the thing that stayed with me most was a small, handwritten note and a slice of birthday cake left by the team. "Sra. Mirela, we had the privilege of welcoming you on your birthday." I hadn't mentioned it was my birthday at check-in. They found out somehow and chose to make it matter. That kind of attention is rare and it says everything about the spirit of the place.
The hotel sits right in the centre of Troia, a quiet peninsula south of Lisbon accessible by ferry from Setubal. The beach is just minutes away, the light is extraordinary, and the whole place feels like a secret that not enough people know about yet.
Thank you #thepearltroia

Across the Blue: Setúbal’s Charm to Troia’s Shores
Wander through Setúbal’s sunny streets for a major vibe check! 😎 Those tiled facades are insta-perfect, lining quiet alleys that seem straight outta a European fairytale. And trust me, the scent of fresh seafood from the waterfront cafés? It’s sooo good—you’ll wanna snag a table ASAP! Head over to Setúbal’s waterfront (Praça do Quebedo, Setúbal, Portugal) for ferry departures, usually running from early morning till late evening (check trip.com for the latest sched).
Next up: hop on the ferry! The engines purr as you cruise out to sea, watching merchant ships and fishing boats float along the horizon. The Atlantic breeze hits different out here—definitely make sure your phone’s charged for those epic water shots! 🚢🌊
Then, Troia’s iconic pale coastline comes into view. Endless sandy stretches, lush pine-green dunes, and a totally chill vibe welcome you right at the river’s edge. Troia Beach (Doca Pesca, Troia, Portugal) is open all day—perfect for lazy beach hangs, wild sunset pics, or exploring the calm tide pools.
Setúbal to Troia is classic Portuguese coastal magic, giving you all the feels from city charm to seaside serenity. Pack sunscreen, charge that camera, and get ready for an unforgettable day across the blue!

Portugal! The Best Seafood Delicacy in Setúbal.
Hey there, travelers! If you're in Portugal and dreaming of tasting fresh oysters with an ocean view, head over to Setúbal (just 40 minutes from Lisbon)!
Right here in the Sado River estuary, they farm three types of oysters:🦪
💥 Portuguese Crassostrea Angulata;
💥 Flat Ostrea Edulis;
💥 Pacific Crassostrea Gigas.
Thanks to the perfect blend of fresh and saltwater, their flavor is incredibly tender and briny!🔥
⚡️ Where to find this gastronomic bliss?
I highly recommend Ostras Sobre Rodas—a cozy mobile cafe right on the beach, offering stunning views of the Tróia Peninsula. Just imagine: you're sitting by the water with a plate of the freshest oysters, taking in the silhouette of the island in the distance… ✨
What to expect from your visit:
Oysters straight from the farm—peak freshness;
Lemon, sauces, and the local "green wine" (Vinho Verde) for the ultimate pairing;
☝️ A chance to watch the oyster shucking process—the chefs sometimes put on a mini-show for the guests;
A serene atmosphere and a deep connection with nature.
Tips for your visit:
Best time to go: Sunset—the view of Tróia bathed in the golden hour light is absolutely gorgeous.
What to order: Start with 6–12 oysters to get a feel for the flavor. The portions are huge, with a single oyster weighing up to 400g!
Wine pairings: Ask for local wine recommendations—oysters are often served with a crisp, white "green wine" or a Setúbal Moscatel.

Portugal's "Sai Kung": Tróia.
Situated at the tip of a peninsula, Tróia is most conveniently reached by heading south from the capital, Lisbon, and catching a 30-minute ferry from Setúbal. Alternatively, you can travel overland via Alcácer do Sal.
Free from the hustle and bustle of Cascais in the capital region or the beaches of the Algarve down south, Tróia features a tranquil harbor dotted with moored yachts. Flanked by pristine beaches with crystal-clear waters and fine sand, alongside laid-back restaurants, the vibe is incredibly reminiscent of a quiet weekday in Hong Kong's Sai Kung. It is the perfect destination for a serene getaway.
