I stayed about 1 km from the Duomo, close to Navigli, in an apart-hotel located near Bocconi University. The area is lively in the morning with tram and bus access right outside but quiet at night. It was a gem of a location, as the journey to the Duomo felt like wandering through an open-air museum with ancient churches and charming cafes perfect for observing Milanese daily life. Must-see spots include the Duomo, especially ascending to the terraces, the awe-inspiring La Scala theater, strolling through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele—where you can also visit its rooftop—and iconic sites like the Da Vinci Museum, Sforza Castle with Sempione Park, and the Ambrosian Museum. A must-do in the modern Porta Nuova district is admiring its impressive architecture, such as the Bosco Verticale building and Piazza Gae Aulenti, which doubles as an open-air shopping hub featuring luxury brands. In the evening, head to Navigli for drinks in its cozy, picturesque bars. From Milan, it's easy to take a short train ride to Lake Como and explore Varenna, Bellagio, and Cernobbio by boat—all stunning lakeside wonders. Milan truly invites you to return. It's not just a stopover city, but one you’ll want to immerse yourself in and enjoy.

Its earliest buildings date back to the late 19th century, and it was later restored and expanded in the 1920s by the Italian engineer Carlo Mantegazza. It is now over a hundred years old. ✨ But its true charm lies not just in its era, but in its complete preservation of the lifestyle and aesthetic sensibilities of old Europe's old money society. 🍃

Maybe for a while, you were just like many others. Driven by the pace. Pulled by emotions. Every day responding to the world, but rarely truly responding to yourself. You suddenly realize that life doesn’t always need to be tightly stretched forward. Here, no one rushes you. That sense of order belonging to old Europe will calm you down again. Many people think Lake Como’s old money vibe comes from yachts, hotels, and wealth. But what’s truly charming is actually a philosophy of life. ✨ A life not swept away by the world. A state where even doing nothing still lets you feel inner abundance. And here, you will slowly see yourself again. Begin to know what truly matters. Start cutting down on meaningless consumption. And learn to leave time for life itself. 🌲 Lake Como Old Money Slow Travel is never just a trip. If you’ve been looking for a healing European getaway with stunning lakes and mountains, Cernobbio and nearby Bellagio should absolutely be on your must-visit list! This lesser-known route in Italy’s lake district feels like the perfect escape from everyday life: under blue skies and white clouds, the lake water is crystal clear, while swans, wild ducks, and schools of fish drift by at ease. Walking along the shore, whether you’re traveling as a couple or with your best friends, you’ll feel the unbeatable healing power of nature. A stop at Bellagio’s waterfront also rewards you with sweeping lake views at the foot of the Alps and elegant Western-style architecture, making it an unbeatable backdrop for photos. Recommended Spots 1. Lungolago di Cernobbio The heart of the town is right here on this lakeside promenade! Lined with beautiful Western-style buildings, it blends modern design and historic landmarks perfectly. It’s the ideal place to lazily sip an espresso by the water, sit down anywhere, and simply daydream. Right beside you is the lake—so clear you can see fish swimming below, while swans and ducks glide across the surface from time to time. 2. Bellagio Waterfront and Mountain Views (Bellagio) It’s recommended to take a ferry across the lake from Cernobbio to Bellagio, because the scenery along the way is deeply soothing. Once you arrive, take a slow walk along Bellagio’s lakeside path and enjoy the refreshing breeze. In the distance are the majestic Alps, while nearby the lake is dotted with ducks, swans, and yachts—it truly feels like stepping into a postcard. Travel tip: the area near Bellagio Pier is the best photo spot, where you can take in the mountains and lake in full view during the daytime. 3. Villa d’Este On the edge of the small town of Cernobbio stands a luxurious villa hotel known as one of the most beautiful lakeside buildings in Italy. Although most of it is private, the outer gardens are open to the public. The flower displays held every spring and summer are a favorite local attraction. If you have time, book a table at the restaurant and enjoy afternoon tea with a lake view for a movie-scene kind of experience. 4. Lake District Food Along the Cernobbio waterfront and in Bellagio’s old streets, you’ll find plenty of Italian restaurants specializing in fish. Be sure to try the local lake-style risotto made with perch, or simply grilled lake fish. Portovino by the lake, address: Piazza Risorgimento, 22012 Cernobbio (advance reservation recommended), offers both great food and beautiful lake views. However, winter is not the peak travel season, so many restaurants may be closed and dining options are relatively limited. Practical Tips 1. Wear comfortable walking shoes if possible. There are many cobblestone roads and slopes between the lakeside and hillside towns, and some of the best views require a short walk. 2. Don’t miss the chance to take photos with the swans—they’re not afraid of people at all. As long as you don’t disturb them while they’re eating, you can take your time snapping pictures. Many shots naturally come with swans and ducks in the background, making it easy to get amazing photos on the spot! 3. If you’re planning to go on a weekend, take an early ferry to avoid the crowds (tickets can be bought at the pier). The boat ride takes about 40 minutes, and along the way you can enjoy the mix of modern and classical architecture on both shores. Transportation You can take a train from Milan (Milano) to Como, then transfer to a local bus or taxi to Cernobbio. The journey takes about 50 minutes. From Como to Bellagio, taking the lake ferry is recommended, and ferry schedules can be checked at the pier.

#europetrip The gardens of Villa d’Este are famous for their remarkable fountains and creative water features. Engineers of the Renaissance designed a complex hydraulic system that allowed water to flow naturally through the gardens without modern pumps. As visitors explore the terraces, they encounter fountains of many shapes and sizes, each decorated with statues and artistic carvings. One of the most impressive is the Fountain of Neptune, where powerful streams of water create a dramatic display. Another famous feature is the long avenue known as the Hundred Fountains, where numerous small fountains line a decorative wall. The continuous sound of water flowing through the garden adds life and movement to the landscape, making the entire environment feel dynamic and refreshing for visitors.

Ready for Lake Como beyond the postcards—where forgotten villages crumble in silence, wild shores replace manicured gardens, and the lake shows its authentic, untamed soul? 🏞️✨ This is the Como locals cherish. Top Spots: 1. Laglio & Carate Urio: Skip the famous names. Laglio hugs the western shore with pastel houses tumbling to the water (yes, George Clooney's here—no, you won't see him). Just south, Carate Urio offers narrow medieval alleys and absolute stillness. No crowds. Just lake life. 2. Monte Bisbino: Escape the waterline. Wind up 40 hairpin turns to this 1,325m summit. The view swallows the entire lake, the Alps, and on clear days, Milan's skyline. Tiny sanctuary at the top. Bring a jacket—it howls up here. 3. Nesso: Not a village—a gorge. Ancient stone houses straddle a chasm where the Orrido di Nesso plunges dramatically into the lake. Medieval bridge spans the abyss. Waterfalls, moss, and a thousand years of silence. Bring a tripod. 4. Colico Peninsula: The lake's rugged northern edge. Here, Como turns wild. Abbazia di Piona, a Romanesque Cistercian monastery, clings to the shore with monks still brewing liqueurs and tending herbs. Swim off the rocky point. Bellagio feels very far away. 5. Pigra: Take the world's steepest funicular from Argegno. At 900m, Pigra is a single street, a few stone houses, and a view that steals your breath. Alpano panorama. Pack a picnic. How to Get There: Car essential for these corners. Western shore roads (SS340) are narrow, intense, unforgettable. For Pigra, the funicular is the whole point. For Monte Bisbino, a capable driver and steady nerves required. Eat: · Semifreddo al caffè: Frozen coffee cream—Como's signature summer dessert. · Polenta uncia: Polenta "greased" with butter, cheese, and local mountain flavours. · Formaggella del Luinese: Tiny, tangy goat cheeses from the Valganna valley. · Sciatt: Buckwheat fritters oozing molten cheese—actually Valtellina, but close enough. Tips: · Parking: Learn parcheggio and disco orario. You'll need both. · Swim: These quieter shores welcome it. Piona, Colico, and Nesso offer proper lake entry. · Language: English fades fast up here. Learn buongiorno, grazie, and un caffè, per favore. Smile always. · Sunday stillness: Villages nap hard. Don't roll suitcases at siesta. Don't honk. Ever. #LakeComoSecrets #NorthernItaly #OffThePath #Piona #Nesso #MonteBisbino #ItalianMoments

Lake Como, nestled at the southern foot of the Alps, has attracted countless nobles and celebrities since the Roman Empire to build summer residences here, thanks to its tranquil and magnificent scenery and mild, humid climate. This beautiful lake is not only a romantic place but also a serene summer retreat for Europeans, boasting numerous luxurious villas and century-old hotels. Among the most famous is Villa d'Este, located on Lake Como. ▪️ Villa d'Este was originally built in 1568 as a summer residence for a cardinal, and was later renamed Villa Nuova in 1815. d'Este gradually transformed into a hotel; as a model of luxury hotels, it is renowned for its neoclassical architecture and Renaissance-era garden design, especially its approximately 25-acre mosaic garden, one of the best-preserved historical gardens in Italy, featuring hundreds of fountains, waterfalls, and pools that recreate the exquisite hydraulic engineering of ancient Rome. ▪️ The hotel has 151 rooms and suites, located in two historic buildings. Each room is furnished with antique Renaissance-style furniture, and some rooms have balconies overlooking the lake or garden views. d'Este also boasts four private villas, particularly popular with privacy-conscious celebrities. Due to the traditional winter closure in the Lake Como region, the hotel undergoes a thorough cleaning and renovation every year to ensure a comfortable experience for every guest. Experience a unique stay ▪️ For leisure facilities, a golf club just 12 kilometers from the estate, along with eight clay tennis courts, squash courts, and a fitness center, offer a wealth of options. The dining options are equally impressive: the Veranda restaurant, open year-round, offers continental breakfasts and formal dinners, while the Greenhouse restaurant and bar, open only for Christmas, provides a unique and festive experience. ▪️ While Estate de Esper may not be on the classic route, it has accumulated over four centuries of ancient Roman heritage, embracing the clear mountain scenery of Lake Como. From a cardinal's summer palace to a model of luxury hotels, it has always preserved the unique elegance of this landscape. Simply pausing under the veranda, listening to the wind and gazing at the lake, one is already immersed in a long dream spanning four centuries.

Villa d'Este, just a 45-minute drive from downtown Milan, is located right on the shores of Lake Como, making travel and sightseeing very convenient. This building was originally constructed in 1568 as the private summer residence of the Bishop of Como. Later, it was purchased by the Napoleon family as a summer palace, and in 1873 it was officially converted into a hotel. Its Renaissance-style gardens are quite famous, and Chanel has even held major fashion shows here. Upon entering the hotel, you are immediately captivated by the overall environment: on one side is the expansive Lake Como, and on the other are fountains, sculptures, and well-manicured gardens. The hotel's interior corridors are decorated with fresh flowers and crystal chandeliers, creating a unique spatial atmosphere. I booked Bar Canova, which offers coffee and light meals, with both indoor and outdoor seating areas, all with lake views—perfect for a relaxing break.

Stepping into this Renaissance palace-style hotel is like entering a vivid script of old money. Watching the 16th-century lakeside gardens, the floating pool reflecting the Como landscape, and exploring the red clay tennis courts beneath the flowing water... every detail tells the eternal refinement of the d’Este family. Villa d‘Este is always my first stop for old money on Lake Como, serving as the runway and private choice for brands like Chanel. Entry is only allowed with a stay or a dining reservation; calls and emails are both accepted. The reservation service is full of ceremony—you hear it before you see it. True old money never rushes—they simply flow quietly in this floating estate, letting guests understand what “inherited elegance” truly means!

⚓️Push open the cast iron carved gate of Villa d'Este, and you'll feel as if you've fallen into a dream spanning four centuries. This Renaissance palace, built in 1568, was once the summer palace of Cardinal Gallio. In the early 19th century, it was given its current name by Queen Caroline of England. After transforming into a hotel in 1873, it became a never-ending extravagant feast on Lake Como. Lake Como, Lombardy, Villa d'Este 🇮🇹Climbing up the marble steps, the crystal chandeliers in the arcades refract the light of the golden age. In the guest room, the Art Deco-style arched window frames a pool of blue lake. The reflection of the snow-capped mountains that George Clooney gazed at in Ocean's Twelve now overlaps with me through a century-old Venetian mirror. In the hotel garden, under the 600-year-old French sycamore, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's whispers still seem to rustle between the branches. The most amazing thing is the world's only heated swimming pool in the heart of the lake. When your body is immersed in the 38℃ blue waves, you can see the snow-capped Alps when you look up—this may be the confidence that the Forbes judges praised as "having everything a best hotel should have." ⚓️At the private pier at dusk, a Maserati yacht cuts through the gilded lake. The Prosecco sparkling wine handed by the waiter creates fine bubbles, as if Napoleon's regret of not attending in the past is fulfilled at this moment. When the night falls on Lake Como, the price of EUR 1,000/night is no longer a number, but an admission ticket to buy out time and space, allowing mortals to temporarily reside in the folds of Hollywood starlight and royal secrets. 🔱Check in to beautiful destinations around the world🔱

Usually, I'm just brewing coffee at the shop. But when the opportunity arose, I decided to escape the chaos of Bangkok and fly out to soak up the nature at Lake Como, Italy. It's just a little over an hour's journey from Milan. This trip was all about quiet relaxation, so I checked out Passalacqua, a historic villa that was newly renovated and even crowned the best hotel in the world. With only 24 rooms, the vibe feels like a dreamy secret garden hidden away in the valleys. The interior features a luxurious classic design—it’s absolutely gorgeous everywhere you look. Another spot I completely fell in love with is the Mandarin Oriental, which was transformed from an old mansion. The highlight here is the floating swimming pool right on the lake, with the stunning Alps as a backdrop. Sitting there, flipping through a magazine, and enjoying the cool breeze was incredibly relaxing. It was such a soul-nourishing way to recharge my batteries. If I get the chance, I definitely want to visit again! 💖
