The scariest cable car in my life
Friends, surely there are people among you who are afraid to ride on cable cars? But now I'm going to show you a cable car that everyone is afraid to ride on. It is located in the Georgian city of Chiatura and is just an iron box with a hole that acts as a window. Travel is absolutely free - it is part of the public transport system in this city.
In general, Chiatura is the real world capital of cable cars. There used to be about 50 of them working in this small town! How it happened - I will tell you in my next posts, subscribe to my profile so as not to miss this story 😉

Chiatura: Georgia’s Underrated Mining Town Gem 🤩⛏️
Chiatura is a village that’s been around forever—literally settled in ancient times! But things really popped off in 1849 when they discovered manganese and iron ore nearby. The mining boom was so wild that Chiatura leveled up, officially becoming a town in 1921.
Back in the Soviet era, this place was *buzzing* with activity. The population? Nearly three times what it is today! While those days are gone, Chiatura still flexes as one of the BIGGEST manganese mining spots on the planet. That’s pretty epic, right?
But here’s the real plot twist: Chiatura is actually one of Georgia’s most underrated tourism gems. If you like niche spots with that old-school industrial vibe, this town is dripping with character. Plus, it’s got those famous Soviet-era cable cars (yup, you can still ride a few!) and an eerie cityscape that’s just begging for your Insta feed. You can see lots of Soviets architecture here.
Wanna check it out? Chiatura is located in the Imereti region, Georgia. Most cable cars run daily and are super affordable (like 1–2 GEL per ride). You won’t need to plan too hard—just hop on a marshrutka from Kutaisi or Tbilisi and you’re golden.
Don’t sleep on Chiatura if you’re looking for quirky adventure vibes, epic urban photos, and a slice of Georgian history that feels totally cinematic. This town is SO worth the detour!

Rusty Charm & Cliffside Vibes in Chiatura
#summervacay Exploring Chiatura feels like stepping into a forgotten movie set, in the coolest way possible. This little town is tucked between cliffs and rivers, with old era cable cars dangling overhead like they're frozen in time. Some still work, some just hang there looking mysterious. It’s weirdly beautiful.
I wandered around the streets, and everything felt raw and real. Rusty buildings, dramatic rock walls and locals just going about their day like it’s totally normal to live in a vertical town. The vibe is super chill, no touristy fluff, just pure Georgia.
The views from the hills are awesome, especially when you spot the Katskhi Pillar in the distance, this insane monastery perched on top of a skinny rock. Like, how did anyone even build that?
Chiatura isn’t fancy, but that’s the point. It’s full of stories, strange charm, and a gritty kind of beauty. If you’re into offbeat adventures and exploring places that feel untouched, Chiatura is calling.
