Stonyhurst is one of the most prestigious schools in the entire United Kingdom and is set in some of the most beautiful countryside in the entire country. The grounds around the school are also open to walkers where you can explore its woodland, following streams on their way towards the meandering River Ribble at the bottom of the valley. Along the route you can also visit the bridge which Oliver Cromwell and the New model army crossed on their route to the battle of Preston and on certain times of the year you can visit the Stonyhurst museum, the oldest in the English speaking world. #outdoors #lancashire

The town of Clitheroe in Lancashire’s Ribble Valley is towered over by the ruins of a medieval castle famous for its roles in both the war of the roses and the English civil war. Today the castle stands in ruins but provides fantastic views of the surrounding hills and valleys and provides a fascinating insight into what life was once like here. There isn’t really many thing more quintessentially English than afternoon tea on a winter’s day with a view of the surrounding countryside. One of the best places we have found for this is in the small village of Chatburn just outside the Lancashire market town of Clitheroe. The cafe feels like you have walked into someone’s living room but the food and drink on offer is surprisingly modern with both fantastic service and welcoming hosts. A true gem #2024mapped

This refurbished cotton mill is now home to a fantastic restaurant, a huge bar with its own brewery serving a wide selection of fantastic beers, a food hall serving high quality local and international produce and an upmarket cinema.
