Lake Elizabeth is a true standout in the Otways, and our recent visit was absolutely beautiful. We completed the 3.5km loop around the lake, which offers a perfect immersion into the lush, prehistoric-looking greenery that this region is famous for. While the trail is generally manageable, be prepared for some sections with steep climbs and steps that definitely provide a good workout! The location is ideal for nature lovers, nestled deep within the Great Otway National Park and surrounded by towering mountain ash trees and giant ferns. Having the parking area right at the start of the trail made the logistics seamless, especially for a quick transition back to the car after the hike. To make the trip even better, we stayed at the Forrest Caravan Park, which was perfectly located for exploring the area. It served as a great base not just for Lake Elizabeth, but for the charming town of Forrest and the various mountain bike trails and waterfalls nearby.
