Fraser Island is a unique island in Queensland, Australia. It's unique because it's a sand island, and yet trees have managed to grow here in the sand. Something that doesn't happen anywhere else on the planet. You can reach it by ferry from the mainland, but you'll have to make sure you have a four wheel drive as the sand is difficult to drive on. Instead you can join one of the tours that uses converted trucks. On the island you can enjoy gorgeous views of the forests as well as the beaches. You may spot some wildlife such as the indigenous dingo if you are lucky. Or you can go for a swim at the Salt Lake in the middle of the island.

This beautiful island has amazing lakes and sand. I was pretty lucky to see it before evacuations of the whole island due to the bushfires spreading which is very sad. #decembertravel

I visited K’Gari Island for the day and it was very enjoyable. The day tour that I booked included visits to Lake McKenzie, 75 mile beach and the local rainforest. I also booked a flight over the ocean and 75 mile beach whilst I was there. This was very fun and gave you great views of the entire island. I would definitely recommend this to anyone thinking of doing it.

Caught the SeaLink ferry across from Hervey Bay to Kingfisher Bay Resort located in the heart of K’Gari. A great place to escape to for a quick, warm break in the middle of the Aussie winter 😊
