🚨 THE BALI RIDE THAT LOOKS WAY MORE PEACEFUL IN PHOTOS 😂
Have you ever tried this ride before? 👀🌿
If you’re in Ubud, put this on your list: Alas Harum Bali 🇮🇩✨
You know those Bali photos where someone is casually floating above a sea of rice terraces, looking completely fearless, while you are sitting at home thinking:
“Yeah, I could do that.”
Then you arrive.
You look down.
And suddenly your confidence needs a minute. 😂
That is basically the Alas Harum experience.
Located in the Tegallalang area north of Ubud, Alas Harum Bali combines Bali’s famous rice terrace scenery with adventure rides, viewpoints, restaurants, coffee experiences and the popular Cretya Ubud pool area.
So this is not really a “take one photo and leave” kind of place.
You can come for the famous swing, try the Sky Bike or other adventure experiences, explore the rice terrace landscape, grab food or coffee, then spend more time around the pools.
It is one of those Bali stops where your camera roll somehow goes from 200 photos to 847 in one afternoon. 📸😂
🌿 FIRST THING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Alas Harum is in Tegallalang, one of the areas most associated with Bali’s iconic rice terrace landscapes.
That location is important.
You are not getting a random artificial backdrop.
The whole experience is built around the natural landscape, with layers of rice terraces, tropical vegetation and valley views surrounding the property.
This is why the rides look so dramatic in photos.
The scenery is doing at least 70% of the work.
The other 30% is you trying not to scream. 😂
🎢 SO… WHAT CAN YOU ACTUALLY RIDE?
This is where Alas Harum gets interesting.
There are several adventure attractions available, including the famous Bali swing, Sky Bike and flying fox style experiences.
Each one gives you a different perspective of the landscape.
And honestly, they are not all the same level of “I trust this equipment with my life.”
Some are more relaxed.
Some are more adrenaline focused.
Some look terrifying until you actually try them.
Others look easy in the video and then your legs suddenly remember that you have a fear of heights.
😂
🪂 1. THE FAMOUS BALI SWING
Let’s start with the obvious one.
The swing.
You have probably seen it on Instagram, TikTok or travel posts.
You sit or stand on the swing, get secured by the staff, and then you’re lifted above the greenery with the Tegallalang landscape behind you.
The result?
That classic Bali photo where you look like you have completely figured out life.
Meanwhile, five seconds earlier:
“WAIT, HOW HIGH IS THIS?” 😂
If you are nervous about heights, take your time.
Listen carefully to the staff.
Do not rush into the experience just because your friends are already lining up.
And if you are doing it mainly for photography, tell your photographer what type of shot you want before the ride starts.
A few seconds can go very quickly.
📸 BEST SWING PHOTO TIP:
Do not always shoot directly from the front.
Ask for a wider composition that includes the valley and rice terraces.
The landscape is what makes the photo special.
If you are taking photos with a phone, try 1x for a more natural portrait and 0.5x when you want to show the full environment.
Just don’t stand too close to the edge of the frame with 0.5x.
Your legs may come out looking like they belong to a different species. 😂
🚲 2. SKY BIKE
The Sky Bike is for the people who look at a normal bicycle and think:
“Can we make this more terrifying?”
😂
You ride above the landscape while suspended high over the greenery.
The view is incredible, but the experience is definitely different from riding a bicycle on a normal road.
This is one of those activities where the photo looks calm and cinematic while the person actually doing it is concentrating extremely hard on staying balanced.
If you are comfortable with heights and want something different from the classic swing, this is one to consider.
And if your friend says:
“Don’t worry, I’ll film you.”
Make sure they actually know how to use the camera first.
You do not want to finish the ride and discover they recorded the floor. 😂
🪂 3. FLYING FOX / ZIPLINE STYLE EXPERIENCE
If you want speed rather than simply hanging above the scenery, the flying fox experience gives you a completely different feeling.
Instead of slowly swinging through the air, you move across the landscape.
It is shorter, faster and much more adrenaline focused.
The nice thing about having several ride options is that your group does not have to choose exactly the same experience.
One person can go full adrenaline.
Another can take photos.
And one friend can simply stand there holding everyone’s bags.
Every group has that friend. 😂
⚠️ IMPORTANT: CHECK THE REQUIREMENTS
This is the part people sometimes forget when they see beautiful Instagram photos.
Adventure activities have rules.
The official Alas Harum information lists specific height and weight requirements for different attractions, along with safety restrictions.
Safety equipment is also required.
Certain visitors, including pregnant women, young children and people with specific medical conditions, may not be permitted to participate in particular extreme activities.
Requirements can also vary by ride.
So don’t assume:
“If I can do one activity, I can automatically do everything.”
Check the current rules before booking.
Your travel itinerary is not worth ignoring a safety requirement.
🌾 BUT DON’T RUSH THROUGH THE RICE TERRACES
This is probably my biggest tip.
Do not visit Alas Harum and spend the entire time waiting for a ride.
The scenery is part of the experience.
Walk around.
Look at the rice terraces from different levels.
Take a few photos without posing.
Watch the landscape.
You will notice that the views change as you move around.
One viewpoint might give you the dramatic valley.
Another might frame the rice terraces between palm trees.
Another might show the architecture and greenery together.
The best photos often happen when you stop trying to recreate someone else’s exact Instagram shot.
📸 THE “I’M NOT TRYING” PHOTO FORMULA
Want your photos to look more natural?
Try these:
🚶 Walk instead of standing still.
🌿 Look toward the landscape instead of directly at the camera.
🧢 Fix your hat or sunglasses while someone takes the photo.
📱 Hold a drink or small camera.
👀 Look away from the camera for one shot.
😂 And take at least one completely unplanned photo.
The goal is to look like you were actually enjoying Bali, not like you were waiting for your passport photo appointment.
🌴 THEN THERE’S CRETYA UBUD
If you have seen those huge tropical infinity pool photos from Tegallalang, you have probably seen Cretya Ubud.
It is part of the wider Alas Harum experience and is designed around the surrounding rice terrace landscape.
The main visual is the multi-level pool area overlooking the greenery.
This is where the mood changes.
The rides are:
“LET’S GO!”
The pool is:
“Okay, now sit down and recover.” 😂
Cretya Ubud is a day club and restaurant experience, so you can slow down after the adventure activities.
You can swim, eat, have drinks and enjoy the view.
The official site currently lists Cretya Ubud as open daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
The pool area is currently adults only, so families travelling with young children should take that into account.
💦 SHOULD YOU DO THE RIDE OR THE POOL?
Honestly?
If you have enough time, do both.
They give you completely different experiences.
The ride gives you the adrenaline and the iconic photos.
The pool gives you time to relax and actually enjoy the landscape.
If you only have a short amount of time, decide what matters more to you.
📸 If you’re here for content: prioritize the ride and photo spots.
🌴 If you’re here to relax: spend more time around Cretya.
🎢 If you’re an adrenaline person: explore the available rides.
🍽️ If you’re a foodie: build in time for dining.
And if you’re like me:
“Let’s do everything.”
Good luck. 😂
☕ DON’T FORGET THE COFFEE EXPERIENCE
Another part of Alas Harum that can easily get ignored because everyone is focused on the swings is the coffee experience.
Bali has a strong coffee culture, and this is a chance to learn more about how local coffee is produced and prepared.
If you have never tried Balinese coffee before, this is a nice way to make your visit more than just an Instagram stop.
Also, after spending an hour convincing yourself that you are fearless on a swing, coffee is probably a reasonable reward.
😂☕
🌅 WHAT TIME SHOULD YOU GO?
If you want to focus on the rides and photography, earlier is generally a smart choice.
The official Alas Harum information currently lists certain extreme rides as available from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, with all activities available from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
That means you should check the current schedule for the exact attraction you want rather than assuming every ride operates all day.
Morning also gives you:
✔️ Softer light
✔️ Cooler temperatures
✔️ Better conditions for walking
✔️ A chance to photograph the landscape before the busiest periods
✔️ More time to enjoy other parts of Tegallalang afterward
And there is another advantage.
Your makeup has not yet entered its “Bali humidity final boss” stage. 😂
🌦️ WHAT IF IT RAINS?
Welcome to Bali.
The weather has entered the chat. 😂
Tropical weather can change quickly.
You might start your morning with bright blue skies and suddenly get clouds or rain.
Do not panic.
Overcast weather can actually create beautiful, soft light across the rice terraces.
But for adventure rides, safety comes first.
If the weather conditions are unsuitable, follow the staff instructions and do not try to force an activity just because you already planned your photo.
You can take another photo.
You cannot undo an unsafe decision.
👟 WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
This is not the place for an outfit that requires you to walk like a robot.
Wear something comfortable.
For adventure activities:
✔️ Comfortable clothing
✔️ Secure footwear where required
✔️ Minimal loose accessories
✔️ Hair tied back if necessary
✔️ Sunscreen
✔️ Sunglasses for non ride areas
✔️ Small bag
If you plan to use the pool, bring swimwear and a change of clothes.
And if you’re wearing a long flowy dress because you want that cinematic Bali photo, make sure it does not interfere with any safety equipment.
Cute outfit first.
But safety first first. 😂
📱 HOW TO GET THE BEST CONTENT
If you’re creating a Trip.com post, Reels or TikTok from the experience, don’t film only the final ride.
Tell the whole story.
Start with:
🎥 Arrival
🌴 First view of the rice terraces
🎢 Getting ready for the ride
😂 Your reaction before going up
🪂 The actual ride
📸 The final photo
🌿 Walking through the landscape
💦 Pool time
🍽️ Food
🌅 Leaving the property
This makes your content feel like an experience rather than a collection of random photos.
And please get a reaction shot.
The “before” and “after” expressions are usually much funnier than the perfect pose.
😂
📍 HOW TO BUILD A TEGALLALANG DAY
You don’t need to spend the entire day only at Alas Harum.
You can turn it into a full North Ubud itinerary.
🌅 MORNING
Start at Alas Harum.
Do the adventure activity you want while temperatures are still comfortable.
📸 LATE MORNING
Explore the viewpoints and take your photos.
☕ MIDDAY
Coffee or lunch.
💦 AFTERNOON
Relax around the pool or explore another nearby attraction.
🌾 LATE AFTERNOON
Visit another rice terrace or countryside viewpoint.
🌙 EVENING
Head back toward Ubud for dinner.
This gives you a much more relaxed day than trying to visit seven attractions in eight hours.
Because let’s be honest.
You are on vacation.
You do not need to speedrun Bali. 😂
💡 MY BIGGEST TIPS BEFORE YOU GO
📌 Check the current ride requirements.
📌 Check the exact operating hours for the attraction you want.
📌 If you want a specific activity, consider reserving ahead.
