Jinyunlou is the former residence of Tu Liangsang, an overseas Chinese from Malaysia. The history of Jiyang people venturing to Southeast Asia can be traced back to the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. In 1927, 37 villagers from Jiyang alone went overseas together. They made a living in rubber plantations, railways, and tin mines, and sent their savings back home. This is how the houses in the mountains became connected to distant Southeast Asia. Sometimes Jiyang is quiet, but in the past it was a bustling hub for merchants. Located at the junction of Datian, Yongchun, and Dehua, it connects central and southern Fujian. Porters carried salt, oil, and mountain goods along the mountain roads, and later some followed this route to the distant sea. Upon arriving at the building, I was first captivated by the rooftop. The hipped roof of the main house stands out among the various roofs, and the auxiliary buildings unfold according to the terrain, some connected by covered walkways, others with eaves extending from the height differences. The three-hour journey to this mountainside residence for overseas Chinese was well worth it. The rice paddies in the mountains have turned golden. The descendants of the Jin Yun Lou family sit on the second-floor veranda, gazing at the fields, and time seems to slow down. The mountain roads, it turns out, also lead to the distant sea. I. Core must-visit attractions (Don't waste your trip! Local secrets) 1. Taining Dajin Lake (Top 1 must-visit) Sanming's iconic 5A scenic area, a World Natural Heritage site, is known as the "No. 1 Lake and Mountain in the World" and represents the pinnacle of Danxia landform scenery. The core experience is a boat tour. Check in at the iconic Ganlu Temple; the entire temple is supported by a single pillar, built without nails or rivets—a thousand-year architectural marvel that's perfect for photos. Along the way, you'll see red cliffs, Danxia landforms, and the "Skyline on the Water." The reflection of mountains and water creates a martial arts-style secret realm, full of atmosphere. 2. Zhaixia Grand Canyon Known as the "Danxia Landform Museum," the canyon is serene with babbling streams and gentle, easy-to-walk trails. The entire hike is relaxing and comfortable, with high vegetation coverage and fresh air—perfect for a stroll, getting some fresh air, and immersing yourself in nature. It's a niche, healing spot away from the crowds. 3. Shaxian Ancient Town + Qifeng Diecui You must visit Shaxian when in Sanming! It's not just about snacks; there's also the quaint old street, full of local life. You can overlook the entire city's night view from the Qifeng Diecui boardwalk. It's very pleasant to take a walk and enjoy the breeze in the evening. It's free to visit, so you can enjoy a stunning night view without spending a dime. 4. Yongan Taoyuan Cave Famous nationwide for its "Skyline," the narrow Danxia rock crevices are unique, thrilling, and distinctive. The hike is moderately difficult. Once you reach the top, the view is expansive, offering panoramic views of the mountains and water. If you like light hiking, you must come here. 5. Guifeng Ancient Village A thousand-year-old village hidden in the mountains, with blue bricks, black tiles, and ancient stone alleys. It's not very commercialized and retains the original Hakka village style. It's quiet and uncrowded, perfect for taking photos and experiencing the slow life of an ancient village. II. 3-day, 2-night classic itinerary for lazy travelers (Beginners, just copy this) Day 1: Arrive in Sanming > Shaxian Ancient Town > Qifeng Diecui night view After arriving during the day, head straight to the old town of Shaxian to stroll through the old streets and eat authentic snacks to unlock the local taste of Shaxian. In the evening, hike the Qifeng Diecui boardwalk to watch the sunset and evening glow, then enjoy the night view—the evening breeze is very comfortable. Day 2: Taining Dajin Lake > Ganlu Temple > Taining Ancient Town Spend the whole day immersing yourself in Dajin Lake, taking a boat to see the Danxia mountains and water, and checking in at the thousand-year-old temple. In the evening, stroll slowly through Taining Ancient Town to experience the night atmosphere of the ancient streets and avoid the daytime crowds. Day 3: Zhaixia Grand Canyon > Guifeng Ancient Village > Departure Hike the serene Grand Canyon in the morning to get some fresh air. In the afternoon, stroll through the original ancient village to take photos and relax. It's a relaxing, unhurried itinerary for a perfect end to your trip. III. Must-try authentic food (Affordable and reliable) Sanming has tons of food, focusing on affordable prices, large portions, and authentic local flavors. No need to look for "internet-famous" shops; just head to any old shop in the old streets and alleys! 1. Shaxian signatures: Miaomen Bianrou (wonton), mixed noodles, crystal dumplings, taro dumplings, and "gold wrapped in silver." The skins are thin, the fillings are generous, and the peanut sauce is rich. It's a standard local breakfast, and you can eat until you're full for about 20 yuan per person. 2. Yongan specialties: Yongan Guotiao (rice noodles) and Huorou (fresh pork). Smooth rice noodles paired with tender pork cheek meat, dipped in secret yellow chili sauce—the taste is incredible and never gets old. 3. Taining snacks: Biyu rolls, Youjiang tofu, and Dajin Lake fish head soup. The mugwort skin is crispy on the outside and glutinous on the inside; the fish head soup is fresh, sweet, and rich; the tofu is delicate and smooth. 4. Hakka flavors: Ninghua Leicha (pounded tea), Datian Jiucengguo (nine-layer cake), and Luolan sesame cakes. The Leicha is savory and has a sweet aftertaste; the sesame cakes are crispy and flaky. All are authentic, traditional flavors. IV. Key pitfalls to avoid (Hard-earned experience! Don't fall for these) 1. Pitfalls for scenic area tickets ❌ Never trust the "low-price internal tickets" or "fast-track tickets" sold by scalpers at the entrance. It's all a scam. Not only will you pay extra, but you might also end up with fake or invalid tickets. ✅ For core scenic areas like Taining Dajin Lake and Zhaixia Grand Canyon, you must book tickets on official platforms 1 day in advance. During peak season, there's a high chance there will be no tickets available on-site. ✅ 2026 perk! With your boarding pass for flights arriving at Sanming Shaxian Airport + your ID card, you can visit nearly 20 scenic areas, including Shangshudi and the Sangang Industrial Tourism Zone, for free within 7 days. Don't waste this offer. 2. Pitfalls for transportation ❌ Don't blindly rent an e-bike to ride around the island or to scenic areas! Sanming has many mountainous roads with many curves and steep slopes. Some mountain sections prohibit e-bikes, making riding dangerous and prone to traffic violations. ❌ Parking spaces in Taining Ancient Town and Youxi Terraces are extremely scarce during peak season. Don't blindly drive into the scenic area to look for parking; it's a waste of time. ✅ When driving on mountain roads, be sure to slow down. Tunnels have speed limits of 60–80 km/h. Fill up your gas tank before heading to remote scenic areas, as gas stations in mountain areas are far apart. ✅ During peak season, park in official parking lots in the county town and transfer to the official scenic area shuttle bus to save money and worry. 3. Pitfalls for shopping ❌ Never buy red mushrooms or mountain goods sold on the Dajin Lake cruise! They are heavily overpriced—more than 30% more expensive than physical stores in the county—and the quality is not guaranteed. ❌ Be cautious about entering souvenir shops or "internet-famous" snack shops inside scenic areas. They are expensive, have small portions, and the taste is not authentic. The price-performance ratio is very low. ✅ For snacks, look for old shops in old streets or small shops crowded with locals. The taste is authentic, affordable, and good value. ✅ If you want to buy souvenirs like dried meat or Jiucengguo, buy them at local supermarkets in the county town for much better value. 4. Pitfalls for the experience ❌ Be cautious about visiting Dajin Lake during the rainy season (May–June, plum rain season). It's often foggy, which blocks the Danxia scenery, visibility is very poor, and boat trips may be canceled due to weather. ❌ If you are slightly overweight, carrying a backpack, or wearing thick clothes, be cautious about entering the "Skyline" at Taoyuan Cave. The passage is extremely narrow, and it's very easy to get stuck, leaving you unable to move forward or backward. ✅ When visiting cave scenic areas like Yuhua Cave, the temperature inside is constant and cool, and the ground is damp. Be sure to bring a light jacket and wear non-slip sneakers. ✅ For Dajin Lake, prioritize the morning boat (departing at 8:30 AM) to avoid the afternoon crowds. You'll get better photos without obstructions and have a better experience. 5. Pitfalls for clothing and accommodation ❌ Don't bring too much heavy luggage! There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the Sanming mountains. You don't need thick clothes; just bring a light jacket and comfortable sneakers for light travel. ❌ Don't stay in overpriced homestays around the scenic area; the environment is average and the price is high. ✅ Prioritize staying in Shaxian urban area or Taining county town. Transportation is convenient, dining options are complete, and accommodation offers better value. V. Travel tips 1. Best time to visit: March–May and September–November. The climate is mild, the weather is sunny, and the mountain and water scenery is at its best. Avoid the scorching heat and rainy season. 2. Clothing advice: Light-colored clothes are perfect for mountain and water scenery and look great in photos. There is a lot of walking, so be sure to wear non-slip, comfortable shoes. 3. Food reminder: Sanming dishes and snacks come in huge portions. Don't order too much to avoid waste. 4. Pace advice: Sanming is suitable for slow travel. No need to rush between attractions; immerse yourself in the mountains, water, and local life for the best experience.

Every time I come to Sanming, I am captivated by the mountains, waters, and tulou here. This time, I checked in at Fujian Province's only tulou — Pipa Fort. Pipa Fort is located in Jianshe Town, Datian County, Sanming City, Fujian Province. It is a tulou built during the Qing Dynasty. The characteristic of this tulou is that it is surrounded by mountains and encircled by green vegetation. Therefore, this tulou is also called "a treasure amidst green mountains and clear waters." Upon arriving at Pipa Fort, I was drawn in by the beautiful scenery. Surrounded by hills and vegetation, I felt as if I had stepped into a paradise. Walking along the mountain path into the tulou, I saw ancient tulou buildings and stone tablets. Although these tulou have a long history, they are still well preserved, allowing me to experience the unique charm of this tulou. In front of the stone tablet at Pipa Fort, I saw an elderly man carefully studying the inscriptions. I thought he must be one of the guardians of this tulou! I approached him and asked about the history and culture of this tulou. The elder enthusiastically answered my questions. He also told me that this tulou was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of over 200 years. After listening to the elder's introduction, I became even more interested in the history and culture of this tulou. After visiting Pipa Fort, I took a walk in the surrounding terraced fields and woods. The scenery of the terraced fields and woods here is also very beautiful. I saw farmers busy in the fields, their faces beaming with the joy of harvest. The scenery here made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. In short, this visit to Pipa Fort in Sanming opened my eyes. The beautiful scenery and historical culture deeply made me feel the unique charm of this tulou. If you also love mountains, waters, and tulou, you must come to Sanming to check in at this beautiful Pipa Fort!

Three irreplaceable reasons】 ✅This is not a patchwork scenic spot of “tea garden + viewing platform,” but a living tea mountain community—tea pickers sing the “Tea Picking Song” as they walk through thousands of acres of terraced fields, tea masters twist fresh leaves in an ancient tea workshop, and even the mountain breeze carries the scent of fresh grass and roasting fire; ✅One of the few “participatory tea mountains” in the country: you can personally pick a basket of spring buds, watch them wither → fixate → twist → dry, and finally hold a cup of tea you named yourself (handwritten label on the tea can, take it home); ✅The scenic area is at an altitude of 1100–1350 meters, with an average spring temperature of 16°C and negative oxygen ions exceeding 28,000/cm³, truly a “natural forest oxygen chamber.” 🚗【How to get there? Three tested recommended ways】 ✔ Self-driving (most recommended|about 2.5 hours total) From Fuzhou: Fuyin Expressway → Quannan Expressway → Datian Interchange → S306 Provincial Road → Pingshan Township → Neiyang Village (five scenic parking spots along the way, search “Daxian Peak Tea Beauty Tourist Center” on your phone navigation) ⚠️Note: The last 12 km mountain road is mostly two-way single lane, daytime travel recommended; the scenic area has an eco parking lot with 4 charging stations. ✔ High-speed rail + shuttle (suitable for those without a car) Take a high-speed train from Fuzhou Station/Xiamen North Station to Sanming North Station (about 1.5 hours) → transfer to the “Sanming North Station–Datian Bus Station” shuttle (30 minutes, fare 18 RMB) → transfer at Datian Bus Station to the “Datian–Pingshan” rural bus (frequency: 1 per hour, last bus 16:30, fare 6 RMB) → get off at Neiyang Village entrance, walk 300 meters to the tourist center. ✔ Cultural tourism direct bus (spring season only) Starting March 20, 2024, Datian County Culture and Tourism Bureau, in cooperation with tea enterprises, launches the “Spring Mountain Tea Picking Line,” one trip daily (departure at 8:30), including professional tea guide + tea picking experience + handmade tea cake, reservation required 3 days in advance (WeChat public account “Datian Culture & Tourism” → menu “Reservation Service”). 🌄【One-day spring itinerary|Relaxed · Breathable · Lingering sweetness】 8. 30|Breakfast at “Cloud Tea House” next to the tourist center: freshly steamed dried bamboo shoot buns + high mountain oolong tea eggs, plus a hand-painted tea mountain postcard 9. 30|Take the sightseeing bus to “Cloud Top Viewing Platform” (15-minute ride): overlook thousands of acres of spiral tea mountains, morning mist like silk wrapping the mountain waist, resembling the earth’s fingerprint 10. 30|Immersive tea picking experience (reservation required): ▫️Wear a blue cloth apron, carry a bamboo tea basket, pick one bud and one leaf under the guidance of a tea master; ▫️No rush throughout, focus on recognition: observe leaf vein translucency, smell the fresh aroma of the stem, feel the fuzz on the leaf surface. 12. 00|Watch traditional tea making at the ancient tea workshop: see intangible cultural heritage inheritors roasting with 120-year-old charcoal baskets, listen to the subtle crackling of tea leaves unfolding on bamboo trays 13. 30|Stroll along the “Tea Language Trail” (1.2 km long, suspended wooden walkway): on the left, a century-old yew forest; on the right, mirror-like terraced fields; occasionally spot egrets skimming the water surface 15:00|Tea Beauty Culture Hall handmade session: print tea poem paper, mold tea seed soap, create a personalized tea-scented bookmark (materials included in ticket) 🏡【Where to stay? Mountain residence recommendations】 🔹 “Half-Mountain Cloud Lodge” (5-minute walk from the viewing platform): ▫️Converted from an old tea factory, room window frames are like picture frames facing the entire tea mountain; ▫️Each room comes with a jar of seasonal new tea + handwritten brewing guide; ▫️Evening “Starry Sky Tea Session” available by appointment (limited to 6 people, reservation required). 📌【Helpful tips|Local real experience】 🔸 Clothing: large temperature difference in spring mountain (12°C morning/22°C afternoon), onion-style dressing recommended; non-slip soft-soled shoes essential (some stone steps are slightly wet); 🔸 Respect: do not break tea branches when picking, only pick tender buds; do not touch the roasting basket fire inside the tea workshop; 🔸 Taste: must try “Datian’s Three Delicacies” — red mushroom stewed native chicken, jiaogulan tea drink, tea-scented glutinous rice cake (not fried, fragrant and soft); 🔸 Secret Easter egg: at the west side of the viewing platform “Wangji Pavilion,” tea farmers often place a small basket of freshly picked wild strawberries in the early morning with a note: “Mountain flavor, help yourself, no thanks.” ✨Final words: Daxian Peak is not high, yet it brews spring into a cup of tea; Tea Beauty says nothing, but with thousands of terraced fields, tens of thousands of green plants, and a wisp of roasting fragrance, tells you: Healing is simply slowing down, watching how a leaf grows from the mountain breeze into the warmth in your palm.

Although the hotel looks a bit old, it is a good choice for a small county town. The lobby has a very high ceiling and is decorated in an old-fashioned style. As you go up the stairs toward the elevator, you can even see statues of gods, which is a special feature of this small hotel in southern Fujian. The room is of moderate size and not cramped. The bathroom is quite large and the overall room is clean. The soundproofing is average, but the surrounding environment is good. Yancheng Square is downstairs, and there is Xiantingshan Park next to it. There is Baiyan Park further away. They are all close and convenient for strolling. - 🏨Xianting Hotel 📍Building 1, Yancheng Cultural Plaza, Junxi Town, Datian County, Sanming City #FujianTourism #HotelRecommendation

Visiting a friend in Datian, I stopped by Baiyan Park for a stroll. It was the first time I'd ever seen such a long staircase in a park. After passing through the park gate, the long staircase immediately came into view. It's said to have 365 steps, symbolizing the 365 days of the year, representing continuous progress and advancement – a very auspicious meaning! I roughly counted over 300 steps while climbing, and the slope was quite steep; I didn't count them all. At the top of the stairs, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the streets connecting to the park and the distant mountains. Further into the park, there are several pavilions and corridors for visitors to rest. The park is quite large; I wandered around for a long time and still hadn't explored many areas. It's perfect for a leisurely afternoon stroll. - 🌳Baiyan Park 📍No. 58, Baiyanshan North Road, Junxi Town, Datian County, Sanming City, Fujian Province 🚌Take Datian Bus Route 15 and get off at "Park Station" #FujianTourism #ParkStroll #Park

Dongban She Ethnic Village is located in the northern part of Taoyuan Town, Datian County, Sanming City. The village was formed and established during the early Song Dynasty (960-997 AD). It is 9 kilometers away from the town center and consists of four natural villages, inhabited by families with surnames such as Wu, Xiong, Liu, Huang, Zhang, and Lin. There are three dialects spoken here: Hakka, local, and Minnan. The main industries are rice, corn, and vegetables, with bamboo, high mountain tea, and She medicine as auxiliary industries. Over the centuries, Dongban has maintained its history of over a thousand years. The ancient residences are well-preserved, the scenery is beautiful, and the cultural heritage is rich and unique. The original ecology has long been free from pollution and destruction. The unique She culture, the green hills and waters, the ancient residences, the thousand-year-old trees, and the profound folk customs are like a fine aged wine, intoxicating without drinking. Dongban is a thousand-year-old village, an ecological rural area, a beautiful countryside, a She ethnic village, and a cultural village. It is the only She ethnic minority village in Datian. The ecological advantages are obvious, with fertile land and abundant forest resources. It has rich cultural heritage resources: the national-level cultural relic protection unit 'Anliang Fort' built by the Xiong ancestors; the Xiong Ancestral Hall 'Desheng Jincheng'; the temple fair activities held every year in the third lunar month with Anliang Fort as the theme, including rituals, fire-walking, and communal meals; and the 'Fujintang' built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty by the fifth-rank official Wu Dafu.

Sanming Taoyuan Self-Driving Tour Driving on the highway, I accidentally saw the sign for Taoyuan and was reminded of Tao Yuanming's 'The Peach Blossom Spring.' Curious, I decided to take a look and exited the highway at Taoyuan. Turning right and driving forward for 200-300 meters, I reached the tourist distribution center of Taoyuan. After driving in and asking the staff, they warmly explained that their Flower Sea Amusement Park was nearby, just 200-300 meters straight ahead. Walking around the park, I felt much more relaxed, and it seems like a place where kids could play all day without getting bored. The staff told us that hidden deep in the mountains is a thousand-year-old ancient village (Dongban Ancient Village), ancient trees, and a castle, known as Anliang Fort. Following the navigation for about 8km, the scenery along the way was also very nice, full of greenery and fresh air, with a high negative ion content of over 8000 all year round. It took about 10-20 minutes to reach the entrance of the scenic area. Walking in, it truly felt like a paradise on earth, with various types of local ancient dwellings. The staff mentioned that the area occasionally hosts various events. They told us that recently, their scenic area was the filming base for the short drama 'A Single Blow to the City,' a sketching base for college students, a venue for orienteering competitions, and a research and study base for students. It seems they've really done a great job. Strolling through the ancient village, I felt like I was part of it, transforming into a member of the She ethnic group. Along the way, there were men and women dressed in She attire, looking beautiful and handsome. You can also rent She clothes for photo ops, and there are many great spots for taking pictures. Even a casual shot with a phone turns out well. First, we saw their ancient She medicine garden, a paradise for traditional Chinese medicine enthusiasts. For us ordinary folks, it's just nice to look around. Then we came to Fuyu Hall, which has a revolutionary heritage as the former site of the Red Ninth Army. Inside, there are stories about the martyrs, which are truly touching. The staff told us that there are usually special performances at the Fuyu Hall square in the morning and afternoon. We were lucky with our timing and saw a performance, which was absolutely amazing. Continuing the walk, we reached Ankun Bridge, where we could rest our feet. Sitting on Ankun Bridge was so cool, like being in an air-conditioned room on a summer day. Turning right from Ankun Bridge, we arrived at the distinctive ancient dwelling called the Witch Doctor's Residence. Its owner was a fifth-grade imperial physician and also the health guardian of the ancient village. Further inside, we saw the thousand-year-old tree that has witnessed the millennium changes of the ancient village. It is said that Emperor Qianlong also visited here and inscribed the title 'Thousand-Year Tree King.' You can also make a wish here, and it's said to be very effective. Next to it is the Dyeing Workshop, where you can experience the dyeing wisdom of the ancient She people. Here, you can also enjoy a cup of milk tea and watch a performance of 'climbing the knife mountain and descending into the sea of fire,' which is quite enjoyable. 200 meters ahead, you'll reach Anliang Fort, known as the Potala Palace of the South. The most famous part here is Anliang Fort itself, and I admire the wisdom of the ancients for building such a grand and bandit-proof house. Overall, it was a very nice self-driving trip. If you want to relax and unwind, I highly recommend visiting.~

Don't want to check out😭||A B&B surrounded by mountains and facing the sea, I really love it!😭 Having tea and chatting with friends here is so comfortable🍵 The scenery with both mountains and sea is really pleasing to the eye😍 · 🍃It's quite a surprise to reach the B&B along the rugged mountain road, there's a park at the entrance where you can see the beach🏖️ 🍃The rooms have a great design sense! They have a natural aesthetic, very photogenic!📸 The large floor-to-ceiling windows offer a comfortable view, and you can see the sea when you open the curtains🌊 🍃The hotel's breakfast is delicious, and the late-night sweet rice wine balls are also tasty, dinner is local specialty seafood, which the chef has executed brilliantly👍 🍃Right upon arrival, before even parking the car, the housekeeper was already waiting at the entrance to help me with my luggage🧳 Any question I had was answered immediately 🍃Attentive and meticulous butler-style service, always responsive, with a sense of distance yet warmth, super suitable for individuals! When leaving, they gave cookies as a parting gift🎁 🍃If too lazy to go out, just watch a movie or listen to music in the B&B, the vast sea view outside the window is very enjoyable🥰 The room's screen projection is very clear, watching movies is super comfortable!📽️ · 📍Location: Xiangshan-Dongchen Township-Dongdan Village
