Valley of Fire State Park is located just outside of Las Vegas Nevada. The park is absolutely stunning. It is made up of around 40,000 acres of stunning rock formations and a colorful desert. The roads that stretch through the valley are curvy and wind back and forth through the landscape. One of the most amazing things in the park are the petroglyphs. Some of them date back to around 4000 years ago. It is believed that the natives used the land to hunt and hold religious ceremonies. Having experienced Las Vegas a few times we thought we would give Reno a try, a smaller and a more manageable experience. Vegas is so big and busy now it can be quite overwhelming, especially if you stay in one of the super hotels. We decided to spend the night in Reno on the way back to California on a road trip. Downtown Reno itself is very small, a few blocks of buildings and hotels and a few small restaurants and entertainment venues. It has definitely seen better days as there are a lot of places that are closed or rundown, but it does have some charm as such a small city. It’s a great pitstop as hotels are a lot cheaper than Las Vegas and there is still a fair amount of choice, we stayed at the El Dorado and although it’s an older hotel it is well maintained throughout. We took a drive around the nearest city blocks and found a few cute places to eat and drink, browsed some gift shops and spent a bit of time in the sports bar which had a great atmosphere. Overall a decent one night stay if you want to experience the Vegas lifestyle without spending too much money. #winterescape Fremont Street feels like the raw, original heart of Las Vegas — loud, colorful, and completely unapologetic. This is where the city started long before the mega-resorts on the Strip, and you can still feel that vintage Vegas energy in every block. ⚡️ Walking here means neon signs, street art, live music, and crowds that never really slow down. Old casinos sit next to bold murals, bars spill out onto the street, and everything feels a little chaotic — in the best way. It’s not polished, it’s not quiet, and that’s exactly the point. 🎸🍻 Fremont Street is also famous for its canopy lights, which turn the whole street into a moving light show after dark. Even during the day, there’s so much to look at: classic signage, quirky facades, and places that look like they haven’t changed in decades. This part of Vegas feels more real, more playful, and more human. A surprisingly good experience, I'd definitely come back! ☀️ The temperature was perfect this season, a bit like a combination of California and Texas: not by the sea, but much greener than neighboring Nevada. Some places even had the illusion of better infrastructure in LA (very sunny), and the airport was new. However, the whole city was very white, especially Old Town Scottsdale, where every restaurant on an entire street was packed with white people. 🌵 The main attractions in the city are Papago Park and the Desert Botanical Garden. The botanical garden is fantastic and definitely worth a visit, but the only drawback is the lack of plant diversity; we probably saw hundreds of cacti along the way. But that's probably due to the desert environment (pp. 1-8). 🦈 Taking the kids to see fish at OSea Aquarium: A great place to kill time with kids, they loved it. It's definitely not as big as Monterey Bay, but it's quite large and well-made. They even put a shark tank in the restroom and called it America's Best Restroom (p9, the trade-off being no mirrors!). It feels like an old-fashioned and simple marketing method. 🛍️Scottsdale Fashion Square: A huge mall with everything from H&M to luxury brands (p12). Not too crowded on Black Friday, you can easily spend half a day with kids. The upscale dining area averages $80+ per person. Élephante from Santa Monica even has a branch here. 🍽️I didn't research the food options in detail; it was all predominantly white cuisine. We went to The Mission - Old Town Scottsdale, a Mexican restaurant converted from an old church (p13-15). The food was okay (I recommend the Duck Epanadas), but it was dimly lit and noisy, not very kid-friendly. Luckily, the kids didn't mind, as long as it was edible. We also went to a Chinese restaurant in the Meza area. The ingredients and flavors might be a bit rough, but the prices were incredibly reasonable—$12.99 for a classic stir-fried eggplant, potatoes, and green peppers dish.

This spot is so popular that it's called the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign"♪ Rather than being in the city of Las Vegas, it's right in the middle of the national highway lol! It's the kind of place you would normally pass by in your car, so I recommend setting it in your navigation system! When I went there, there was a huge line just to take a photo. (It was hard to wait in the hot sun.) Overview: Overview Entry and Exit Nevada's Valley of Fire State Park is known for its unique deep red sandstone. Although there are many famous natural wonders nearby, such as the Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon, this hidden gem is often overlooked. During our five-day trip to Las Vegas, we made a special trip to the Valley of Fire, which is only a 40-minute drive from Las Vegas. 🚗 Transportation: Self-driving is the best option. If you have more time, here are some recommended additional attractions: 4️⃣ Beehives: Located at the west entrance of the park, this is a famous attraction that can be visited in an hour. 5️⃣ Petroglyphs: Here you can see ancient petroglyphs on the rocks, which are very interesting. The tour takes about an hour. 6️⃣ Rainbow Vista: Although it is not as colorful as other places, some people have taken beautiful photos here, and it is still well-known. 7️⃣ Silica Dome and Silica Dome Doomsday: This is a short trail with unique scenery and huge rocks. We originally planned to go to Rainbow Vista but accidentally discovered this place and were amazed by the scenery. It takes about an hour round trip. 8️⃣ Elephant Rock: You can stop by when you exit the park's east gate.

When you walk into The Venetian in Las Vegas, You feel like you’re in Europe! The sky ceilings of the hotel makes it feel like you’re outdoors in the middle of Italy. I bought a cup of Gelato 🍧 to really feel immersed in the scenery and atmosphere around me. I also visited the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas and they really outdid themselves for Lunar New Years. They decorated their whole garden with lots of plants, Tigers 🐅 to portray and signify the Year of the Tiger, and Chinese architecture.
