With peaceful lakes, century-old rain trees, colonial architecture, delicious local food, and a slower pace of life, Taiping quickly became one of my favourite towns in Malaysia. ❤️ My Experience The first thing I noticed after arriving in Taiping was how calm everything felt. There were no skyscrapers or busy shopping malls—just wide roads lined with enormous rain trees and people enjoying a relaxing morning walk. I started my day at Taiping Lake Gardens, and it instantly became my favourite spot. Watching the giant rain trees stretch gracefully over the lake created one of the most beautiful landscapes I've seen in Malaysia. I rented a bicycle and slowly explored the park instead of rushing from one attraction to another. The cool breeze, chirping birds, and peaceful surroundings made me forget about the busy city life. Later, I visited Taiping Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in Malaysia, before walking around the heritage streets filled with charming old buildings and local cafés. Before leaving, I couldn't resist trying Taiping's famous hawker food. Hidden deep inside Sungai Luat in Lenggong, Perak or better known by locals as Lata Layang, this place honestly feels more like a jungle expedition than a normal waterfall trip 🌳 Since the waterfall is located within Piah Forest Reserve, visitors need to apply for a permit before entering. The journey itself takes around 2 hours with a trail that can be considered moderate difficulty. Along the way, the route passes through plantation roads, old logging tracks, and dense forest trails before finally reaching the waterfall. What makes this place even more interesting is the wildlife presence here 🐘 ⚠️ The area is known as an active elephant habitat, and there’s even an electric fence nearby built to stop elephants from wandering out of the forest. You can sometimes spot elephant dung along the trail too, which honestly reminds you that this jungle truly belongs to nature. The waterfall itself stands over 10 meters high, with strong rushing water that can already be heard, and even felt through the cold mist before you actually see it. The atmosphere there feels raw, powerful, and untouched. The river is also full of fish, and there are several nice camping spots nearby for people who enjoy overnight jungle camping beside the water 🌿 Only one thing can be slightly annoying though… the bees 🐝😂 There are quite a lot of them around the area, so just be mentally prepared for that.
