Two-day trip to Lucerne, Switzerland + Rigi, and Weggis

The previous post covered transportation and accommodation; this one mainly focuses on the Lucerne itinerary. 1️⃣ Day 1: Train from Milan, Italy to Lucerne. The Italian portion was paid; entry into Lugano is possible with a Swiss Travel Pass. The journey takes about five hours. Arriving in Lucerne around 2 PM, I rushed to the hotel to drop off my luggage and then caught the 2 PM ferry to Mount Rigi. The ferry runs once an hour, so get there as early as possible! The ferry ride to the foot of Mount Rigi takes 30 minutes, then you take a cable car all the way to the top (free with a Swiss Travel Pass). There are food and drinks at the top (super expensive, a bottle of mineral water costs 5 euros, so remember to bring your own water!). On my first day at Mount Rigi, it was shrouded in mist (p2). On the way down, you can get off at the cable car station and take another cable car to the town of Weggis. When the cable car is crowded, it's like a sardine can, and you can even experience weightlessness. Weggis town (p3) is quiet and not crowded, definitely worth a visit. There's also a bubble tea shop run by a foreign couple (p4). After Weggis, you can take the ferry back to Lucerne train station from the pier, just in time to catch the last rays of the sunset. In the evening, we had a delicious Sichuan meal in the city center (p5, very expensive but worth it! Delicious!). 2️⃣ Day 2: I couldn't stop thinking about Mount Rigi. I woke up early and checked the webcam to see it was sunny at the summit, so I rushed to the pier and went up the mountain again. Since the pass was free, it was worth the trip (p6). I experienced the beauty of Mount Rigi under different weather conditions; it truly deserves its title as the Queen of the Mountains. This time, on the way down, I walked one stop from the summit, enjoying the beautiful lake and mountain scenery along the way. I took the cable car all the way down to the foot of the mountain, and then took the ferry to Weggis, which was a perfect alternative to yesterday, allowing me to experience two different ways of traveling. Sitting on a bench by Lake Weggis, browsing the souvenir shops, and seeing the Bernese Alps dogs that are everywhere in Switzerland—the Swiss, you've truly stolen my life!! Back in Lucerne city center at noon, I randomly picked a sushi restaurant (a foreign-run place, very average). Lucerne's main city area isn't actually very big. If you don't plan to shop much, I personally think there aren't many attractions worth stopping at in the main city. However, Mount Rigi is absolutely, positively worth a visit! You can even get classic photos of the Emei Mountain rocks from Mount Rigi! (p8). But the beauty of Mount Rigi is highly dependent on the weather. I suggest checking the weather forecast on a webcam before you go up. If it's really bad, don't force yourself; you can wait for better luck the next day!
