Miyaji | The core of the hashiri volcano faith [Aso Shrine] ⛩️

In Aso Miyaji, almost every walking route eventually leads to Aso Shrine. As the religious center of the Aso region, the shrine's history dates back over two thousand years, enshrining the twelve Aso gods and intricately connected to the volcano, agriculture, and local life. Entering the spacious shrine grounds, one is immediately drawn to the sturdy wooden architecture. Severely damaged by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, it has been gradually restored, the interplay of old and new wood highlighting the passage of time. Standing before the main hall, the distant view of Mount Aso and the quiet figures of worshippers nearby create a sense of faith flowing naturally through daily life. I enjoy using Aso Shrine as either the starting or ending point of my walks in Miyaji. I don't rush to take photos; I simply sit and watch the wind rustle through the shrine's eaves.
