It's a great destination from March to December—a must-visit for nature lovers! · - ✈️ Pre-trip Essentials: 🪪 First, be sure to bring your passport and Japan tourist visa. Print copies in advance and store them separately to avoid trouble if the originals are lost. 📱 Next, prepare a Japanese SIM card or portable WiFi. Signals in Japan can be spotty in September, so having internet access for navigation is crucial. 🔌 Then, bring a two-prong plug adapter. Most Japanese outlets are two-prong flat types, which you'll need for charging your digital devices. 👔 Pack a few lightweight long-sleeved shirts and breathable long pants. Parts of Japan's mountainous regions can be cool in the mornings and evenings in September, and these also provide sun protection. 🎒 Finally, bring a portable folding umbrella and mosquito repellent, as some parts of Japan may still have occasional rain showers and small insects in September. 💊 Don't forget to pack common stomach and cold medicine; getting an upset stomach or a cold while traveling can really dampen your mood. · - Save this guided tour guide to enjoy a stress-free trip to Japan. Like and save it now so you don't lose it! 😘

Visiting Mount Aso in Kumamoto, Japan, is an experience that makes you realise just how powerful and beautiful nature can be. This is not an ordinary mountain – it is one of the world’s largest volcanic calderas, with dramatic landscapes, vast green fields, volcanic smoke, and breathtaking panoramic views.

What impressed me most was the incredible contrast between the peaceful countryside and the raw volcanic landscape. Everywhere you look, there is something spectacular: endless grasslands, rolling hills, distant mountains, and the feeling of being surrounded by nature on a completely different scale.

One of the highlights of the area is Kusasenri Grassland. Walking across this beautiful open landscape, with horses grazing in the distance and mountains surrounding the horizon, feels almost unreal. It is a perfect place to take photographs, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and simply appreciate the scenery.

Another fascinating stop is the Aso Volcano Museum, where you can learn about the geological history of the volcano and understand the incredible forces that shaped this region.

My personal travel tips:

· Rent a car if possible. Having your own transportation makes exploring the Aso region much easier.
· Visit Kusasenri and allow yourself enough time to enjoy the scenery rather than rushing through.
· Wear comfortable walking shoes, as some areas have uneven volcanic terrain.
· Bring a jacket, even on sunny days. The weather can be quite different at higher elevations.
· Check the volcanic alert level and crater access information before your visit. Mount Aso is an active volcano, and access restrictions can change.
· Never cross safety barriers or enter restricted areas.
· Keep a safe distance from grazing horses and respect the surrounding nature.
· Bring some snacks and water, especially if you plan to explore the walking trails.

Important note for travellers: The Nakadake crater access has been subject to restrictions due to volcanic activity. As of the latest information available for November 2026, Kusasenri remains accessible, while the crater area is restricted. Always check the official updates before travelling.
