Train Check off Kumamoto landmarks, take a helicopter tour over the volcano, and enjoy horseback riding at Kusasenri. Day 5: Kumamoto City Walk (Free time) Take a leisurely stroll through the streets of Kumamoto and you might even catch a Kumamon performance. Day 6: Fukuoka Airport > Home Depart from Fukuoka Airport and wrap up your healing trip to Kyushu. / 🗂️ First, make sure to bring your Japan tourist visa and original passport. It's also a good idea to have a few photocopies just in case. 📱 Be sure to buy a Japanese SIM card or portable WiFi in advance—it's super convenient for navigation. 🔌 Japan uses two-pin flat plugs, so bring an adapter so you won't have to worry about charging your devices. 👕 It's still hot in Japan in September, so bring short sleeves and sun-protective clothing, plus a light jacket in case the indoor AC is too strong. 🎒 Pack a sun hat, sunglasses, and mosquito repellent in your day bag to make visiting shrines and parks more comfortable. 💴 Exchange some Japanese Yen cash. Some small shops and street stalls only accept cash, as Alipay and WeChat Pay aren't accepted everywhere. / 😘 Wishing you a smooth and worry-free group tour in Japan—have a great time!

Visiting Mount Aso in Kumamoto, Japan, is an experience that makes you realise just how powerful and beautiful nature can be. This is not an ordinary mountain – it is one of the world’s largest volcanic calderas, with dramatic landscapes, vast green fields, volcanic smoke, and breathtaking panoramic views.

What impressed me most was the incredible contrast between the peaceful countryside and the raw volcanic landscape. Everywhere you look, there is something spectacular: endless grasslands, rolling hills, distant mountains, and the feeling of being surrounded by nature on a completely different scale.

One of the highlights of the area is Kusasenri Grassland. Walking across this beautiful open landscape, with horses grazing in the distance and mountains surrounding the horizon, feels almost unreal. It is a perfect place to take photographs, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and simply appreciate the scenery.

Another fascinating stop is the Aso Volcano Museum, where you can learn about the geological history of the volcano and understand the incredible forces that shaped this region.

My personal travel tips:

· Rent a car if possible. Having your own transportation makes exploring the Aso region much easier.
· Visit Kusasenri and allow yourself enough time to enjoy the scenery rather than rushing through.
· Wear comfortable walking shoes, as some areas have uneven volcanic terrain.
· Bring a jacket, even on sunny days. The weather can be quite different at higher elevations.
· Check the volcanic alert level and crater access information before your visit. Mount Aso is an active volcano, and access restrictions can change.
· Never cross safety barriers or enter restricted areas.
· Keep a safe distance from grazing horses and respect the surrounding nature.
· Bring some snacks and water, especially if you plan to explore the walking trails.

Important note for travellers: The Nakadake crater access has been subject to restrictions due to volcanic activity. As of the latest information available for November 2026, Kusasenri remains accessible, while the crater area is restricted. Always check the official updates before travelling.
