📍 Cambridge University, England One of my favourite things about Cambridge is that so many historic buildings are packed into a small area. This route takes you through some of the most beautiful college gates, courtyards and hidden details - all within walking distance. 🚶 Cambridge architecture walking route: 📸 1. King’s College Gatehouse & Screen (Photo 8) Start on King’s Parade, one of Cambridge’s most famous streets. The Neo-Gothic entrance to King’s College is right in the heart of the city. ➡️ Walk: 1 minute 📸 2. King’s College Gatehouse ceiling (Photo 5) Look up as you pass through the entrance arch -the Gothic fan-vaulted ceiling is one of the most beautiful details of the route. ➡️ Walk: 5 minutes 📸 3. Trinity College Great Court Fountain (Photo 3) Continue to Trinity College, one of Cambridge’s largest and most famous colleges. The Renaissance fountain sits in the centre of the impressive Great Court. ➡️ Walk: 5 minutes 📸 4. St John’s College Great Gate (Photos 1 & 2) Head towards St John’s Street to see the famous Great Gate, decorated with the coat of arms of Lady Margaret Beaufort, founder of St John’s College. ➡️ Walk: 1 minute 📸 5. St John’s College Gatehouse ceiling (Photo 4) Look back through the entrance to see the wooden vaulted ceiling decorated with heraldic shields and crests. ➡️ Walk: 5 minutes 📸 6. St John’s First Court (Photo 6) From the gate, you can see into First Court, one of the oldest parts of the college. ➡️ Walk: 5 minutes 📸 7. Corpus Christi College Old Court (Photo 7) Finish at Corpus Christi College, founded in 1352. Its ivy-covered Old Court is the oldest surviving enclosed courtyard in Cambridge. ✨ Total walking distance: around 1 km ⏱️ Walking time: around 15 minutes without stops 🏛️ With photos and college visits: allow 1–2 hours The best part? You don’t need to walk far to feel like you’ve travelled through hundreds of years of history. Which stop would be first on your Cambridge list? 🏛️ #cambridge #cambridgeuniversity #cambridgetravel #visitcambridge #englandtravel #historicengland #uktravel #universityarchitecturere #britishheritage #cambridgedaytrip
