This walking route takes you through some of the city’s most iconic spots: 🚶 Cambridge riverside & historic landmarks route 📸 Photos 1, 3 & 5 — River Cam & punting views Start along the River Cam, where you’ll see the famous punts — flat-bottomed wooden boats that have been part of Cambridge life for over 100 years. The river is lined with weeping willows, historic college buildings and some of the most peaceful views in the city. 💡 Fun fact: Punting started as a practical way to move around the shallow river before becoming one of Cambridge’s most popular tourist experiences. ➡️ Walk: 5 minutes 📸 Photos 2 & 3 — The Mathematical Bridge, Queen’s College One of Cambridge’s most photographed landmarks. Built in 1749, the wooden bridge connects two parts of Queen’s College. The famous story says it was designed without any bolts or screws using only straight pieces of timber — although it was actually engineered with clever mathematical principles and later modified with metal fixings. ➡️ Walk: 10 minutes along The Backs 📸 Photo 4 — King’s College Chapel from The Backs One of the most impressive Gothic buildings in England. The chapel was started in 1446 by Henry VI and took almost a century to complete.
