Borobudur

Borobudur, located in Central Java, Indonesia, is a Mahayana Buddhist stupa relic. Its name 'Borobudur' comes from the Sanskrit 'Vhara Buddha Ur', meaning 'Buddhist temple on the mountaintop'. This stupa is situated on a square platform, like a step pyramid, divided into nine levels. The first six levels are square steps, with the outer corridors of each level filled with bas-reliefs, totaling a length of 2.5 kilometers. The architectural structure of Borobudur gradually decreases from bottom to top, symbolizing the process of Buddhists gradually practicing from the secular world to enlightenment. At the same time, it represents the Buddhist world and the depths of the mind, built according to the mountainous terrain, magnificent and spectacular. In addition, the three Buddhist temples, including Borobudur, Mendut Temple, and Pawon Temple, constitute the main body of this relic. However, the vicissitudes of history have caused Borobudur to sink underground after a volcanic eruption, covered by dense tropical jungle, until it was cleared and rediscovered in the early 20th century. Today, Borobudur has become a world-renowned historical site, ranked alongside the Pyramids, the Great Wall, and Angkor Wat as one of the four major relics of the ancient East.
