Wat Sri Bun Rueang: An Ancient Temple in Chiang Rai

🙏 Wat Sri Bun Rueang was established around 1439 AD. Records indicate that in 1846 AD, Kruba Inthachak Rangsri traveled from Chiang Mai to stay at Wat Wang Than (located at the mouth of the Lao River). 🙏 The rulers of Chiang Rai invited him to reside at Wat Sri Bun Rueang in Wiang Chiang Rai. 🌳 The temple's name originates from an elderly man named Bun Rueang, who planted a Bodhi tree (Sri tree) in the temple, thus giving it the name Wat Sri Bun Rueang. 🏰 Later, a vihara was constructed, with bricks inscribed indicating its construction in 1912 AD. The temple also saw the construction of a new chedi, sala bat, and the entire temple wall. 🛕 Around 1944 AD, the chedi was renovated by constructing a new chedi over the old one. 🧱 Wat Sri Bun Rueang eventually became abandoned until 1957 AD when the Khum Chao Luang was converted into Damrongratsongkroh School.
