A quiet little town—Jagdaqi

Jagdaqi, the capital of the Greater Khingan Mountains region in Heilongjiang, means "the place with Mongolian pines" in the Oroqen language. I had heard of Jagdaqi long ago and always wondered what this city would be like. Now, after so many years, I’ve finally arrived. I took the early morning train (K4119) from Qiqihar to Jagdaqi, with a stunning sunrise on one side and dense forests on the other—a delightful surprise. In Jagdaqi, I had the best spicy hotpot of my trip—everything cost just 14 yuan. Unlike the sweet, old-style Northeastern version, I ordered it extra spicy and numbing, which perfectly suited my Sichuan taste buds. During the day, I casually strolled around and bought super-fresh blueberries for just 10 yuan per pound. At night, outside Hangzhou Bay Plaza, there were several barbecue stalls. I randomly picked one called Ma’s Original BBQ (I think that’s the name). Some skewers were sweet and spicy, while others were savory and spicy—all delicious. Beishan Forest Park is great for a walk—it’s quite large. The Railway Soldier Monument is worth a visit, offering a panoramic view of Jagdaqi. There’s also a pavilion near the Hongqi Community Party Service Center. Jagdaqi’s urban area is very small, so staying near Jagdaqi Station is convenient, and it’s close to the bus station too. Apparently, ride-hailing apps don’t work here, but you can call a taxi—though I haven’t tried that yet, haha. From a tourist perspective, Jagdaqi itself doesn’t have much to offer, but I found it quite pleasant—a laid-back city where you can hike in Beishan Forest Park or take a bus to explore nearby places. It’s a great transit stop, with convenient bus and train connections to other destinations. If you plan to take a bus from Jagdaqi, check the WeChat mini-program "Chuxing 365" for bus tickets. The schedule posted at the bus station doesn’t always match the actual departure times.
