Zhu Shenghao's Former Residence, Jiaxing, Zhejiang

Zhu Shenghao's Former Residence is a traditional residence in the northern Zhejiang style. It has two floors, five rooms, two side rooms to the north and south, two small side rooms to the northeast, and a front and back yard. Zhu Shenghao's Former Residence is a building of historical significance that displays Zhu Shenghao's life and translated works. The first floor of the residence displays Zhu Shenghao's life and translated works, while the second floor is his bedroom. The building underwent major repairs in 2006 and opened to the public in 2007. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Jiaxing. Zhu Shenghao (1912–1944) was a native of Jiaxing, Zhejiang, and a famous translator of Shakespeare's plays and a poet. He translated 31 and a half of the Complete Works of Shakespeare and was one of the first people in China to translate Shakespeare's works. Zhu Shenghao's translation attitude was serious and earnest, with the aim of "maintaining the charm of the original work to the greatest extent possible." His translations are smooth and elegant, and his translation of the Complete Works of Shakespeare is the most complete and high-quality translation of Shakespeare's works in China to date.
