My suggestion (to avoid the crowds), the streets in Lijiang Ancient Town are built along the mountains and water, paved with red conglomerate rocks, including Sifang Street, Mu's Residence, Wufeng Building, Lijiang Ancient Town Waterwheel..., these attractions are best visited earlier to avoid tour groups. Lijiang Ancient Town is quite large, and it's less crowded if you avoid the popular spots. Staying in the ancient town makes it more convenient to visit.
