The Former Residence of Fu Baoshi

The Former Residence of Fu Baoshi is located at No. 4 Fu Hougang, Nanjing. After renovation, it is now a three-story building, separated by a wall from the former residence of Mr. Xu Beihong. The difference is that Mr. Xu Beihong's former residence is free to visit, while this place requires the purchase of a ticket for admission. Mr. Fu Baoshi, originally named Fu Ruilin, was born on October 5, 1904, in a poor craftsman's family in Nanchang, Jiangxi. He once apprenticed at a porcelain shop in his youth, and from 1933 to 1935, he studied abroad at the Tokyo Imperial School of Fine Arts in Japan, learning the history of Eastern art under the tutelage of the renowned teacher Kinbara Seigo, while also studying craft carving. After returning to China, he taught at the Art Department of the Central University in Nanjing and moved back to Nanjing in 1946 to continue teaching at the Art Department of the Central University. After the liberation, he successively held positions such as professor at Nanjing Normal College, chairman of the Jiangsu branch of the Chinese Artists Association, director of the Jiangsu Provincial Institute of Traditional Chinese Painting, vice-chairman of the Jiangsu Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Research Society, vice-president of the Xiling Seal Engraver's Society, vice-chairman of the China Artists Association, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and delegate of the Third National People's Congress, among others.
