The Town God's Temple and Shanghai Old Street

The Town God's Temple in Shanghai is located at No. 249 Fangbang Middle Road, Huangpu District, facing south with its back to the north. The interior includes the main gate, second gate, opera tower, main hall, bedroom palace, and east and west wing rooms, arranged in sequence along the central axis, covering a total area of more than three thousand square meters. Legend has it that a divine shrine was built here during the time of Sun Hao, the ruler of Wu in the Three Kingdoms period. Since the Tang Dynasty, there has been a Town God's Temple in the Shanghai area. The main structures within the temple include the main hall, Yuan Chen Hall, Parents' Hall, Guan Sheng Hall, Wen Chang Hall, and other halls, totaling 9 in all. The architectural style of these halls is a typical example of large southern buildings with red walls and clay tiles, and they still retain the layout of the Ming Dynasty. The halls are majestic, with soaring eaves and ridges, colorful beams and painted rafters, green tiles and red eaves, all exuding a solemn atmosphere. The Town God's Temple Taoist temple, Old Town God's Temple snacks, Lotus Pond, Lake Heart Pavilion, and the Nine-Turn Bridge form the distinctive Shanghai 'Old City' tourism and cultural calling card. Behind the Town God's Temple, the once bustling Shanghai Old Street has been closed and demolished. Not far away, the towering skyscrapers of the Bund financial center stand tall, a juxtaposition of times that evokes a deep sense of nostalgia.
