#chinaadventures Escaping the Modern Grid The real thrill of Yu Garden is the "escape" factor. Shanghai is built on a rigid grid of glass and steel, but inside these walls, nothing is straight. Every path curves, every bridge zigzags, and every wall blocks your view of what’s next. This creates a genuine sense of disorientation that is rare in modern cities. My adventure was simply letting myself get lost in the spatial puzzle. For a few hours, the GPS was useless, and I had to rely on my instincts to find my way from the Wanhua Chamber to the exit.
