I stumbled upon a huge maple poplar tree, its fruits hanging like clusters of wind chimes. When the child was taken to buy toys, I sat alone on a bamboo chair by the river, the sound of oars stirring against the wind, ripples spreading on the water, leaving only the early summer's gilded greenery between heaven and earth.
