There's a place nearby that's truly... indescribably beautiful. It's called Shuimo Danxia Scenic Area (水墨丹霞), or as the Chinese call it, "Watercolor Ink Mountain." 🌄 Before coming here, I didn't have high expectations. I thought Lanzhou only had delicious food and ancient temples, right? But when I arrived at Shuimo Danxia, ​​I was so smitten that I wanted to shout out to all my friends, "Man! It's so beautiful I can't describe it 😭" Just a little over an hour out of the city, the view began to shift from the city to open mountains. Then, suddenly, it appeared before me—a whole mountain with gradients of colors like a watercolor painting! I now understand why it's called Shuimo (meaning "ink wash")—it gives off the feel of a Chinese brush painting, painted with natural colors without any additional touch-ups. 🎨 When I first saw it, I was like, "Hey, is this it?" Is this real?” Because the colors are so soft, with layers of red, brown, yellow, and light green. The more sunlight hits them, the more the colors change, like the mountains are alive. If I were an artist, I'd stand and stare at them all day and never get bored. 😂 The mountains here were formed by millions of years of sandstone and mineral deposits, eroded by wind and rain, creating these patterns. Nature is truly amazing. No artist can beat them! 😍 Once you enter the park, the trails are beautifully arranged. There are several main viewpoints, and a shuttle bus runs around to take you back and forth. It's not tiring at all. When I went in the afternoon, the sun was beautiful. The warm light falling on the mountains made the colors pop. Another thing I liked was that it was very quiet and peaceful. There weren't as many tourists as in Zhangye Danxia. Shuimo Danxia isn't as well-known, but the beauty is comparable. It's also closer to Lanzhou, just a short drive from the city. It's perfect for those who want a stunning natural view but don't want to drive far. 🚗💨 There's more than just mountains here; there are plenty of photo spots, a drink shop, a small cafe, and a chilling area to relax and enjoy the view.
