Locally, it is bordered by the Wuzhi Mountain peaks to the east, the Chiwang Expressway to the south, the Shuangtan lakes reflecting each other to the west, and the Yushan Mountain to the north. The ancient town is adjacent to Guiyang in the east, connected to Chengdu in the west, reaches Kunming and Nanning in the south, and heads up to Chongqing in the north, making it an important node on the travel route connecting Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing, and Guangxi. Legend has it that thousands of years ago, in the Dongshan area where Pingyuan Ancient Town is located, lived the oldest indigenous ethnic group in Guizhou—the Gelao people. Their leader was named Barui, also known as Bari, historically referred to as King Barui or the Barbarian King. The state he founded had its capital at Dongshan in Zhijin, which is the only historical record about the earliest indigenous ethnic group in Guizhou. Zhijin County is located in the central part of Guizhou Province, at the confluence of the Liuchong River and the Sancha River, tributaries of the Wujiang River, in a triangular area. The terrain is generally high in the southwest and low in the northeast. Zhijin County has a subtropical monsoon climate, rich natural landscapes, and diverse biodiversity. Its geomorphological features include towering mountains, layered ridges, and typical karst topography such as caves, sinkholes, and underground rivers. The complex world, the joys and sorrows of life, the sweet and bitter experiences, and the separations and reunions all originate from here, yet they are unnoticed; the Jueyuan, a place for curbing desires, nurturing the mind, and purifying the heart, can only be reached by letting go and liberating oneself.
