Oman travel guide and discussion

🌴 Wadi Al Hoqain, Oman 🇴🇲 Wadi Al Hoqain is a beautiful natural oasis in Al Rustaq, Al Batinah South Governorate, Oman, known for its flowing water, natural pools, date palms, and rugged Hajar Mountain scenery. Unlike Oman’s dry desert landscapes, Al Hoqain can feel surprisingly green and refreshing. Water flows through parts of the wadi, creating rock pools and small waterfalls, while traditional falaj irrigation channels support the surrounding palm plantations. ✨ Why visit? · Natural pools and flowing streams · Palm-filled oasis landscapes · Small waterfalls and rocky gorges · Traditional Omani village and falaj system · Excellent for photography, picnics, and a peaceful nature escape 📍 Location: Al Hoqain, Al Rustaq, Oman 🚗 From Muscat: roughly 2 hours by car, depending on the route.

My visit to Wakan Village during the blooming season revealed one of the most unexpected sights in Oman. Against the rugged Al Hajar Mountains, the village came alive with delicate blossoms, adding soft colors to the dramatic mountain landscape. 🌸🏔️ I loved walking through the terraced fields, surrounded by blooming trees, traditional village paths, and breathtaking views across the valleys. The contrast was beautiful—the strength of the rocky mountains meeting the softness of the blossoms. It was a peaceful experience and a side of Oman I never expected to see. Standing among the flowers with the mountains rising behind them made the whole journey feel incredibly special. A little springtime magic hidden in the mountains of Oman. 🇴🇲💗 #wakanvillage #oman #WakanVillage #Wakan #Oman #OmanTravel #CherryBlossom #BlossomSeason #SpringInOman #AlHajarMountains #OmanMountains #VisitOman #ExploreOman #MountainVillage #NatureLovers #TravelMemories #Wanderlust

#underratedspots If you’re planning a trip to Oman, don’t just stay in Muscat—make time for Nizwa! It may not be as famous as some of Oman’s natural attractions, but I honestly had so much fun simply wandering through the old town. The narrow streets, traditional buildings, and relaxed atmosphere make it feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The two places you absolutely shouldn’t miss are the Nizwa Souq and the Nizwa Fort. The souq is full of local handicrafts, dates, spices, and silver jewelry, while the fort offers amazing views over the city and a fascinating glimpse into Oman’s history. Sometimes, the best travel memories come from places that aren’t on everyone’s bucket list. ✨ Have you been to Nizwa, or would you add it to your Oman itinerary? #Oman #Nizwa #MiddleEast

When people think of traveling to the Middle East, Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Jordan usually come to mind first. But Oman might be one of the region’s best-kept secrets. This country has an incredible mix of landscapes - dramatic mountains, turquoise wadis, endless deserts, ancient forts and hundreds of kilometers of coastline. 🏔️ Drive through the spectacular Hajar Mountains 💦 Swim in the turquoise pools of Wadi Shab 🏜️ Spend a night among the dunes of Wahiba Sands 🕌 Explore the mosques, souqs and old neighborhoods of Muscat 🏰 Discover historic towns and forts like Nizwa 🌊 Follow the coast to hidden beaches and natural pools What surprised me most about Oman is how easy it is to escape the crowds. Rent a car, leave Muscat behind and within a few hours you can experience completely different landscapes. If you're looking for spectacular scenery, road trips and a side of the Middle East that still feels surprisingly undiscovered, put Oman on your list. #Oman #VisitOman #OmanTravel #MiddleEast #MiddleEastTravel #UnderratedDestinations #Muscat #WadiShab #Nizwa #TravelInspiration #travel2026#travel#naturalwonders#thingstodo#citydaytours

#bucketlistdestinations I didn’t go to Oman with a big travel plan or a long list of things I wanted to see. Honestly, I went because I found a Wizz Air flight from Dubai for around $50. It was one of those travel decisions where the price makes you think, “Why not?” I didn’t have many expectations. I knew Oman was a Gulf country, but I hadn’t really imagined what travelling there would feel like. And that’s exactly what surprised me. The more I explored, the more I understood why Oman feels so different to me from the image I had of the Gulf. What stood out most was the traditional Arab atmosphere. Old forts, souqs, mosques, mountain villages, local food and frankincense felt like they were still part of the country’s identity rather than something preserved only for tourists. I loved that contrast with the landscape. One moment I could be surrounded by mountains, then driving through a completely different landscape, and suddenly I was looking at a wadi or heading toward the desert. Oman seemed to keep changing every time I moved somewhere new. And that changed the way I travelled there. I stopped thinking only about the places I had planned to see and started wondering what was around the next corner. That is exactly the kind of travel I enjoy. I’d especially recommend exploring places like Nizwa, Wadi Shab, Wadi Bani Khalid and the Wahiba Sands, but for me the real pleasure isn’t just ticking those names off a list. It’s leaving enough space for the unexpected. Oman taught me something I didn’t expect from a trip that started with a $50 flight: sometimes the best destinations are the ones you didn’t plan to fall in love with. I went because the ticket was cheap. I left feeling like I had discovered a completely different side of Arabia. And that’s why I think Oman is especially good for curious travellers — people who don’t need to know exactly what they’re going to find before they start exploring.

🌿 Salalah, Oman Salalah is the capital of Oman’s Dhofar Governorate in the south of the country. It feels very different from Muscat because of its tropical-looking landscapes, misty mountains, coconut plantations and beautiful beaches. 🌧️ Best time to visit The most famous season is Khareef, roughly June to September. During this period, monsoon winds bring mist, drizzle and cooler temperatures, turning the surrounding mountains green. · June–September: Green landscapes, waterfalls, mist and cool weather · October–April: Sunny, dry and generally pleasant · May: Hotter and less green For the iconic green Salalah experience: July–August is particularly popular. 🏞️ Top places to visit 1. Wadi Darbat One of Salalah’s most beautiful natural attractions. During Khareef, the valley becomes lush and streams and waterfalls appear. Great for picnics, photography and a relaxing drive. 2. Mughsail Beach 🏖️ A spectacular coastline with dramatic cliffs, turquoise water and the famous Mughsail blowholes. 3. Al Fazayah Beach A more secluded and dramatic beach west of Salalah, surrounded by mountains and cliffs. 4. Ayn Razat 💧 A beautiful spring area with gardens and greenery, especially pleasant during Khareef. 5. Jebel Samhan ⛰️ A spectacular mountain region offering dramatic views over Dhofar. The landscape can be covered in clouds and mist during Khareef. 6. Sultan Qaboos Mosque 🕌 One of the prominent landmarks in central Salalah. Visitors should follow the mosque’s dress and visiting guidelines. 7. Al Hafa Souq A traditional market where you can shop for frankincense, perfumes, Omani crafts and souvenirs. 8. Frankincense Land Museum / Al Baleed Archaeological Park An excellent place to learn about Dhofar’s ancient frankincense trade and history. 🌴 What makes Salalah special? Salalah is famous for its coconut palms, bananas, papayas and frankincense trees. During Khareef, the mountains around the city can become surprisingly green, creating scenery that looks quite different from the desert landscapes usually associated with Oman. 🚗 Getting around For exploring places such as Wadi Darbat, Mughsail and the mountain areas, renting a car is usually the most convenient option. Distances outside the city can be considerable, and public transportation is limited for sightseeing. 💰 Budget Salalah can be relatively affordable compared with some Gulf tourist destinations, but prices rise during the Khareef season. A rough daily budget excluding flights: · Budget: OMR 15–25 · Mid-range: OMR 30–60 · Luxury: OMR 80+ Accommodation and car rental can become noticeably more expensive during peak Khareef. ✈️ How to reach Salalah The easiest option is Salalah International Airport (SLL). There are domestic flights from Muscat, as well as international connections that vary by season and airline.

I loved the slower pace I experienced in Misfat Al Abriyeen. Instead of rushing between attractions, I spent my time walking through the old village, looking at the traditional buildings, and enjoying the mountain scenery. The irrigation channels and green terraces were especially interesting because they showed how people have cultivated this rugged environment over generations. I remember finding quiet viewpoints where I could sit and look across the valley. The combination of architecture, agriculture, and dramatic mountains made the village feel very special. It was not the kind of place I expected to become a highlight of my Oman trip, but that unexpected feeling is exactly why it fits #underratedspots so well. #underratedspots #underratedspots

Oman is the ultimate destination for road trip enthusiasts, offering a stunning mix of mountains, deserts, crystal-clear wadis, historic old towns, and coastal beauty. Oman genuinely surprised me. I knew it would be beautiful, but I didn’t expect there to be so much variety in one trip. 🏜️ The desert — Watching the sun set over the dunes was easily one of the highlights. If you can, spend a night in the desert rather than just doing a day trip. 💧 The wadis — Some of the most beautiful places we visited. Take swimwear, water shoes and be prepared for a bit of walking/climbing to reach the best spots! 🕌 The mosques — Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat is absolutely stunning and well worth visiting. Remember to check visiting times and dress requirements beforehand. 🏰 The forts — Oman has so much history beyond the beaches and resorts. Exploring the old forts was one of my favourite parts of the trip. 🐢 The wildlife — We even got to swim with turtles! Definitely one of those experiences I’ll never forget. 🚗 My biggest tip: hire a car if you’re comfortable driving. Oman is quite spread out and having our own transport gave us so much more freedom to explore. What I loved most was how different each day felt — one day you’re surrounded by mountains and turquoise water, the next you’re walking across desert dunes. If Oman isn’t already on your travel list, I’d seriously consider adding it. 🇴🇲 #Oman #VisitOman #Muscat #OmanTravel #TravelTips

Want to learn. ❗️TO PHOTOGRAPHERS!!! AND TRAVELERS. Want to learn how to take beautiful photos? Stop trying to be original. Start copying. That's exactly how your travels will become unforgettable and a joy to look back on. Over my experience traveling to more than 20 countries, I’ve realized one simple thing: A great photo can make a trip infinitely more valuable. You didn’t just visit a place. You captured a moment so well that years later, you can open your gallery and feel that exact morning, that exact light, that exact atmosphere all over again. I used to have tons of travel photos. But honestly, I rarely ever wanted to look at them. I was just snapping pictures of everything. No concept. No idea. It wasn’t until I started intentionally copying photos I genuinely liked that everything changed. You start noticing the details. Training your eye. You start seeing the shot before you even pull out your camera. That’s how you develop a visual taste. So, if you’re just starting to travel and want to bring home more than just thousands of random pictures—shots you’ll actually want to revisit for years to come—start simple. Find a photo you love. And try to recreate it. Don't be afraid to copy. (If you’re in Oman) Here are a few shots you can try recreating yourself. Location: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque Save this. Copy it. Travel. And learn how to see. If you want more ideas like this, make sure to follow.

Everyone told me to go to Dubai. The towers. The malls. The spectacle. I went to Muscat instead. What I found was a city that refuses to build higher than six stories. A city of white buildings and frankincense and a harbor where wooden dhows still dock. A city that traded with the world for centuries and never lost its soul. Here's how the capital of Oman changed the way I think about the Middle East. 🌅 6:00 AM — The Corniche Before The Heat Muttrah Corniche curves along the harbor. At dawn, it's quiet. The dhows bob in the water. The mountains rise behind. The white buildings glow. I walked along the promenade. A fisherman mended his net. He nodded at me. I nodded back. This is Muscat before the heat. It's the best time. 🆓 Free 📍 @Muttrah Corniche ⏰ Before 8 AM ☕ 9:00 AM — Omani Coffee In A Courtyard Omani coffee is spiced with cardamom and rose water. It's served with dates. I found a café in Muttrah. The owner poured the coffee from a traditional pot. The dates were soft and sweet. I sat in the courtyard. The city noise faded. This is Muscat's oldest ritual. Hospitality. 💸 1 OMR (about 2.50 USD) 📍 Café in @Muttrah 🛍️ 11:00 AM — The Souk That Smells Like History Muttrah Souk is one of the oldest markets in the Arab world. It's a maze of narrow alleys. Frankincense. Silver. Textiles. Spices. The air is thick with scent. I walked through. A merchant offered me frankincense from Dhofar. It smelled ancient. I bought a small bag. He wrapped it in paper. This is Muscat. Commerce and hospitality, side by side. 🆓 Free to wander 📍 @Muttrah Souk 🏛️ 1:00 PM — The Mosque That Welcomes Everyone Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is the largest in Oman. It's open to non-Muslims. The prayer hall is vast. The carpet is the second largest in the world. The chandelier is crystal and gold. I walked through in silence. The light filtered through. This is not a museum. It's a living place of worship. But it welcomes everyone. That's the point. 🆓 Free 📍 @Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque 🥘 2:30 PM — Lunch In A Kitchen That Feeds Like Family I found a restaurant called Bin Ateeq. It's designed like a traditional Omani house. The seating is on the floor. I ordered shuwa, the Omani slow-cooked lamb. It's cooked underground for days. It arrived tender and smoky. I ate with my hands. The flavors were deep and ancient. This is Omani food. Generous and patient. 💸 3 OMR (about 8 USD) 📍 @Bin Ateeq 🌊 4:00 PM — The Beach Where Locals Swim Qurum Beach is where Muscat comes to breathe. The sand is white. The water is turquoise. Families picnicked. Children played. I walked along the shore. The mountains rose behind. The sea stretched to the horizon. This is Muscat's living room. 🆓 Free 📍 @Qurum Beach 🌅 6:00 PM — Sunset From The Fort Muttrah Fort sits on a hill above the harbor. I climbed the steps. The sun set over the water. The dhows glowed. The mountains turned pink. The call to prayer echoed. This is Muscat at its most beautiful. 💸 0.5 OMR (about 1.50 USD) 📍 @Muttrah Fort 🍽️ 8:30 PM — Dinner In A Courtyard Under The Stars I found a restaurant called Kargeen. It's in a garden. The tables are under trees. Lanterns hang. I ordered grilled fish and a glass of mint lemonade. The fish was fresh and delicate. The drink was cold and sharp. The garden was quiet. This is Muscat at night. It's not loud. It's peaceful. 💸 5 OMR (about 13 USD) 📍 @Kargeen 🌙 10:30 PM — The Empty Streets Of A Peaceful City Muscat at night is quiet. I walked along the Corniche. The dhows were dark. The water was still. The mountains loomed. The city was peaceful. Muscat had done its work. It had shown me souks and mosques and beaches and forts and food that tastes like patience. It's not Dubai. That's exactly why it matters. 🆓 Free 📍 @Muttrah Corniche 🏨 Where I Stayed (And Woke Up To Mountains) The Chedi Muscat — a luxury hotel with gardens and pools and a view of the sea. My room was serene. Booked via Trip.com. 💸 ~250 USD/night via Trip.com 💡 Five Things Muscat Whispered To Me · The heat is real. Plan outdoor activities for early morning and evening. · The frankincense is not a souvenir. It's a tradition. Buy it from a merchant who explains it. · Trip.com eSIM had perfect signal even in the souk. · Learn "shukran" (thank you) and "salam alaikum" (peace be upon you). The warmth in return is immediate. · Don't expect Dubai. Muscat is different. That's the point. Muscat is not a city that tries to be Dubai. It's better. It has a harbor full of dhows. A souk that smells like history. A mosque that welcomes everyone. A beach where families gather. It's a city that traded with the world for centuries and never lost its soul. I came with uncertainty. If you think all Arab countries are the same, you simply haven't been to Oman. This place is the ultimate reset. It has it all: endless deserts, a turquoise sea, palm oases hidden among rocky cliffs, and ancient fortresses that look straight out of a movie set. But here's the best part—Oman isn't trying to be Dubai. You won't find a race for the tallest skyscrapers here. Instead, traditions are carefully preserved, while the standard of living remains exceptionally high, clean, and safe. If you only have 3–4 days in this incredible country, here is my top 5 MUST-DO list to truly experience its soul: 1. Swim in the paradise oasis of Wadi Shab 🌴 Forget the stuffy city. Take a 2-hour drive from Muscat, cross the water by boat, hike through a gorge, pull yourself up with a rope—and you'll end up in an emerald pool of water. Surrounded by palm trees and towering rocks, you'll feel like you've landed on another planet. (Make sure to cliff jump into the water—the adrenaline rush is guaranteed!). 2. Watch a camel race 🐪 It's an unforgettable spectacle. Races typically cover a distance of 1.5 to 8 km. For short bursts, a camel's top speed can reach 65 km/h, and they can comfortably maintain a speed of 40 km/h for an entire hour. 3. Go snorkeling 🤿 The Omani coastline is an absolute paradise for diving and snorkeling. Just offshore, I swam alongside sea turtles, moray eels, massive fish, and even reef sharks (don't worry, they're harmless!). The water is as clear as glass. 4. Get lost in Mutrah Souq 🛍️ This isn't your average shopping mall; it's a labyrinth of vibrant colors and exotic scents. The air is filled with the aroma of frankincense and spices. Haggling is an absolute must here—you can easily talk the price down to a half or a third. You'll find antique daggers, silver jewelry, and stunning fabrics. 5. Stroll around Al Alam Palace 👑 The waterfront in Old Muscat is the country's iconic calling card. The Sultan's palace, built over 200 years ago, stands magnificently against a backdrop of incredibly colored cliffs. It's the ultimate spot for sunset photography. 📌 Long story short: Oman is the Middle East without the pretension—full of soul and boasting breathtaking nature. Visit for at least 4 days, and I promise you'll want to come back.

#souvenirguide Before visiting Oman, I honestly didn’t expect to spend so much time shopping… but I was completely wrong! 🤍 Oman may not be one of the most popular travel destinations, but its souvenirs are absolutely beautiful. If you love elegant Middle Eastern designs, you’ll probably have a hard time leaving empty-handed! Here are my favorite finds: 🏺 Traditional pottery with gorgeous Arabian-inspired patterns. 👜 Jute bags and woven baskets that are both stylish and practical. 🐪 Camel plushies and mascots that make adorable gifts (or travel buddies!). 🌴 And of course, dates—the classic Omani souvenir. They’re delicious and come in beautiful gift boxes. If you’re planning a trip to Oman, make sure you leave some extra space in your suitcase… you’ll probably need it! 😄 Which souvenir would you bring home? 🛍️✨ #Oman #MiddleEast #TravelShopping

Everyone has heard about places like Japan, Italy, or Switzerland. But sometimes the countries that leave the strongest memories are the ones that rarely make it onto people's bucket lists. These are five destinations that completely exceeded my expectations and deserve far more attention. 🇯🇴 Jordan Most people know Jordan because of Petra, but the country offers so much more. Sleeping under the stars in Wadi Rum, floating in the Dead Sea, exploring ancient castles, and experiencing incredible hospitality make Jordan one of the most diverse destinations in the Middle East. 🇴🇲 Oman A country that surprised me from the very first day. Dramatic mountains, turquoise wadis, endless deserts, and beautiful traditional towns create an incredible mix of landscapes. Oman feels authentic, peaceful, and refreshingly untouched by mass tourism . 🇲🇾 Malaysia Malaysia is often overshadowed by Thailand and Singapore, which is a shame. You can explore modern cities, tropical islands, tea plantations, ancient rainforests, and some of the best food in Asia – all in one trip. It's also one of the easiest and most comfortable countries to travel around. 🇮🇷 Iran Few places have changed my expectations as much as Iran. Stunning architecture, historic cities, colorful mosques, and some of the warmest people I've ever met make it an unforgettable destination. Every city feels different, and every conversation becomes part of the journey. 🇹🇯 Tajikistan If you love mountains, Tajikistan is pure magic. The Pamir Highway is one of the world's great road trips, with dramatic landscapes, remote villages, high-altitude lakes, and scenery that seems almost unreal. It still feels like a true adventure destination. These countries may not always appear on the usual travel lists, but each one gave me experiences I still think about long after returning home. Sometimes the most memorable journeys begin with choosing the places that everyone else overlooks.

One location per trip — and you call that a vacation? 🤔 To us, a real adventure looks a lot different. How about three countries and five unique destinations all in one go! Think it’s too expensive or complicated? Not at all! You just need to plan everything carefully. 📋✍️ In this post, I'll share the details of one of our most epic trips. 🎯 The Main Goal Originally, we had our hearts set on Komodo National Park in Indonesia (there's already a detailed guide about it in a separate post). But then the fun part began — putting together the itinerary. ✈️ How We Built the Route Flying from Moscow to Komodo requires several layovers. We decided to be smart about it and turned those unavoidable connections into full-fledged mini-trips. · We found the cheapest tickets to a major hub — Kuala Lumpur, flying with Oman Air. We intentionally chose flights with long layovers in Muscat so we'd have time to explore the capital of Oman. 🕌 · Next up — budget airline AirAsia ✈️: Kuala Lumpur → Bali → Labuan Bajo (the starting point for Komodo). And for the return — Bali → Kuala Lumpur. We didn't fly straight from Kuala Lumpur to Labuan Bajo because you can't get a visa on arrival there, plus we couldn't just skip Bali. 🌴 · Altogether, all the flights for two people cost around $2,000. You have to admit, for such a kaleidoscope of countries, that's a pretty reasonable price. 💰 🗓️ The Final Itinerary (2 Weeks) · 🇴🇲 Oman (Muscat) — 2 days · 🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur — 4 days · 🇮🇩 Bali — 3 days · 🇮🇩 Labuan Bajo — 3 days · 🐉 Komodo Park — 3 days / 2 nights on a cruise Some might say, "That's not a vacation, it's a marathon." But my answer is: life is short, and vacations are even shorter! If you have the chance to explore the world instead of just lying on a beach for two weeks, it'd be foolish to miss out. 🔥🗺️ 📸 Photos taken on a film Zenit ET and an iPhone. Check out the vibe! Which travel style do you prefer: taking your time in one city or a whirlwind kaleidoscope of countries? Let me know in the comments! 👇💬

Compared to the bustling and noisy Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Oman is truly the most low-key and gentle treasure capital in the Middle East. On one side are mountains and ancient forts, on the other side the sea and sailboats. The streets are clean and tidy, adorned with colorful flowers, the seawater is clear and transparent, and I even encountered a few cute little sharks~ Visa-free and friendly here, with moderate prices and top-notch security ranking first in the Middle East, it’s an excellent choice for a niche, in-depth Middle East trip. 🪪 Entry Policy Chinese passport holders enjoy unconditional visa-free entry, with a single stay of 14 days. 💰 Currency Omani Rial (OMR) and Chinese Yuan exchange rate is 1:18. The exchange rate is high but expenses are not expensive. Chip credit cards are widely accepted, so no need to withdraw cash throughout the trip. 🚌 Transportation Public transportation is poor, so taxis are basically necessary. For taxis 🚗, download the otaxi app in advance, link your Visa credit card, and pay by credit card. License plates are in Arabic numerals, unlike Egypt where they are hard to read. A taxi from the airport to the city center costs about 10 OMR, nearly 180 RMB. 🗺️ Itinerary ✅ Day 1: City Walk 🚶 🧭 Route Oman National Museum → Sultan’s Palace → Marari Fort → Muscat Gate Museum → Mutrah Fort → Mutrah Souq - First, take a taxi from the hotel to the Oman National Museum for about 2 OMR. Opposite the museum is the Sultan’s Palace. The museum, Sultan’s Palace, Marari Fort, and Muscat Gate are all close to each other. The Oman National Museum charges 5 OMR for entry. After visiting these places, you can walk to Mutrah Fort, which has nice scenery along the way, or take a taxi if you prefer. Mutrah Fort’s ticket is 3 OMR and accepts card payment. This is the best spot for photos of S Bay and a must-visit. Then head to Mutrah Souq. ✅ Day 2: Dolphin Watching 🐬 Take a taxi to Marina Bandar, the departure pier. I chose Royal Blue for dolphin watching, which costs 10 OMR. You can book in advance on WhatsApp and pay by card on the day. For the return, you can take a taxi or walk back. I slowly walked back; Oman is really suitable for introverts—no one disturbs you, it’s clean and very quiet. Accommodation 🏨 Ritz-Carlton Hotel - Al Bustan Palace Converted from the Sultan’s Palace of Oman, a true royal palace with one of the best private beaches in Muscat. 🏨 Oriental Muscat Newly opened in 2024, like a tranquil Arabian estate with a one-kilometer-long private beach. 🏨 Muscat Hotel Located on the Shatti Al Qurum waterfront, blending Omani traditional culture with modern design, trendy and fashionable. 🏨 Chedi Muscat Resort Oman’s first modern beach hotel, featuring a 103-meter-long north pool as its iconic check-in spot.

Elegant, serene, and breathtakingly detailed — the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is one of Oman’s most unforgettable landmarks. From the moment you enter, every corner feels like a perfect balance of spirituality, artistry, and architectural grandeur. 🤍 The mosque’s sandstone façade glows warmly beneath the sun, while its majestic dome, graceful arches, and manicured courtyards create an atmosphere of calm and timeless beauty. Step inside and prepare to be amazed: intricate mosaics, delicate carvings, and geometric patterns stretch across every surface. 👀 Look upward to admire the magnificent chandelier shimmering beneath the dome, then downward to see the world-famous handwoven Persian carpet — a masterpiece of craftsmanship in its own right ✨ More than a religious site, this is a place where culture, design, and devotion come together in extraordinary harmony. 📍Location: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Muscat, Oman 🚗 Getting there: Around 15–20 minutes by car from central Muscat; taxis and ride-hailing apps are convenient options ⏰ Best time to visit: Early morning for cooler weather, softer light, and fewer crowds 👗 Tips: Modest dress is required. Women should wear long sleeves, long trousers or skirts, and a headscarf; men should avoid shorts. Non-Muslim visitors can enter during designated visiting hours.

We spent a single day in Oman's capital, Muscat, during a long layover, and it instantly became our favorite Persian Gulf country we've visited so far. 💯 If you think the Persian Gulf is all about Dubai and towering skyscrapers, just open a map and look a little to the right. You'll find Oman, and it's guaranteed to surprise you ☺️. The first spot 1️⃣ we hit right after landing at 7 AM was the beach 🌊. Since it was a weekend, the vibe was truly serene. We just wanted to freeze time—the moment was that mesmerizing. 😊 Next, we headed to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque 🕌. It’s an absolute masterpiece, the third largest mosque in the world, capable of holding 20,000 worshippers. But the real showstopper is the chandelier in the main prayer hall. Standing 14 meters tall, weighing 8 tons, and adorned with 600,000 Swarovski crystals and 1,122 lamps 💎💡, it’s the largest crystal chandelier on the planet. When the light filters through it onto the hand-woven carpet (which took 4 years to make, by the way)—time just stops. We stood underneath it for a solid 10 minutes, completely awestruck. Afterward, we grabbed breakfast at Dukanah Cafe. I highly recommend it—the authentic atmosphere and incredible local cuisine are simply unmatched 🤌🥗. Then, we explored the Muttrah Souq 🛍️. Picture a maze of narrow alleyways filled with the scent of oud, gleaming gold, rich textiles, exotic spices, and fresh dates, all nestled beneath a massive fortress tower that has stood guard since the 16th century 🏰. The locals here don't pressure you to buy; they are refreshingly laid-back compared to other Middle Eastern countries. 😏 Instead, they’ll offer you coffee, sit down with you, and share stories about where a particular scarf came from or why saffron is considered the red gold of the East. This isn't just a tourist trap; it's a place where the true Arabian bazaar is still very much alive. 🧆🏔️ Even though we were dying to explore more of this incredible city, our energy was totally fading after the long flight 🤪. So, we headed back to the airport, having booked a fantastic 6-hour stay at the Aerotel Muscat transit hotel via trip.com, just to catch some Zs before our next flight 😎. 💡 Pro Tip: Oman offers a 14-day visa-free entry for many nationalities. If you have a layover ✈️ in Muscat, try to carve out at least 24 hours ⏰. It’s not just about ticking a box off your guidebook; it's about experiencing the truly authentic Arab world ✌️ 🌆 📍 1-Day Itinerary: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (morning) → Muttrah Fort and Souq (afternoon) → Corniche promenade at sunset (evening) ⏰ Best time to visit: October–April, when you aren't melting in +45°C heat 🔥 👕 Dress code: For the mosque, shoulders and legs must be covered, and women need to wear a headscarf 🧕 Save this to your 'Want to visit' list. Oman is patiently waiting while everyone else flocks to Dubai 📌

#natureexploration There are places one visits, and then there are places that seem to gather your days and stitch them gently into something worth remembering. Kempinski Hotel Muscat belongs firmly to the latter. We arrived as a couple in need of a quiet escape, expecting little more than sunshine and rest. What we found instead was a stay that unfolded like a carefully written chapter—equal parts comfort, discovery, and a touch of something that felt almost like magic. The hotel itself is a sanctuary by the sea, where the horizon stretches endlessly and the rhythm of the waves becomes part of your day. Our room was calm and sunlit, a soft retreat after long hours of wandering. Mornings began unhurried, with breakfast that felt indulgent yet comforting, and evenings ended with golden skies melting into the ocean. But what truly set this experience apart were the journeys beyond the hotel—thoughtfully arranged, as if the team at Kempinski had quietly decided we ought to see the very best of Oman. Our first adventure led us to the wadis, where the world changed from polished luxury to raw, breathtaking beauty. At Wadi Shab, we followed winding paths and waded through cool, clear المياه that shimmered under the sun. It felt like stepping into a hidden world, where cliffs rose high and time slowed to a gentle pause. We laughed, slipped slightly on rocks, and held onto each other—small, imperfect moments that somehow became the most perfect. Another day carried us into the desert, where the land stretched endlessly in waves of golden الرمال. The silence there was unlike anything we had known—vast, humbling, and oddly comforting. As the sun dipped, painting the dunes in amber and rose, we found ourselves standing close, saying very little, because somehow the desert had already said enough. Then came the sea again, but this time wilder and freer. Our trip to Daymaniyat Islands felt like discovering a secret scattered across turquoise waters. Snorkelling side by side, we watched marine life drift and shimmer beneath us, the world above forgotten for a while. It was quiet, weightless, and wonderfully surreal. And perhaps the most unexpected of all was the Pink Lake at Al Khaluf Pink Lagoon—a place that seemed almost imagined. The soft blush of the water against pale الرمال gave it an otherworldly charm, as though we had wandered into a dream we hadn’t known to wish for. Each time we returned to the hotel, it felt like coming back to a story already in progress—one where every detail, from the gentle kindness of the staff to the quiet elegance of the surroundings, made it easier to simply be present with each other. In the end, this was not just a stay, nor merely a collection of excursions. It was a series of moments—sunlit, windswept, salt-kissed—that brought us closer, not in grand gestures, but in the quiet spaces in between. And when it was time to leave, we carried with us more than photographs. We carried a feeling—soft, lingering, and certain—that somewhere between the sea, the الرمال, and the hidden waters of Oman, we had found a little more of each other again.

As the morning light pierces through the tent, Rayzut Beach remains immersed in tranquility. Fine white sand brushes past the ankles, the sound of waves is gentle, and the coconut breeze softly sweeps past the ears. Originally planning to stay two nights, we gave up solitude due to the brief appearance of visitors at dusk and continued southward, heading deeper into the secret scenery. 🚗 01|Heading South: The “Southern Exclusive” Scenery Dominated by Camels on the Road The closer to the Yemen border, the more the journey reveals the unique wild charm of the south. 🐪 Camels become the main characters on the road: groups of three or five crossing the road, cars obediently following behind. 🌬️ The atmosphere becomes full of “border vibes”: encountering border police checking documents by the roadside, sparse population, and increasingly empty roads. That feeling of “heading to the end of the world” quietly envelops every kilometer. 🏚️ 02|Crash into a Broken Yet Stunning Fishing Village: Here, Camels Are the Masters When the view suddenly opens up, a fishing village almost forgotten by time appears. There are no crowds, no shops, no noise, only— 🐪 Herds of camels treating the fishing village as their bedroom and dining room 🌾 Some lowering their heads to nibble on vegetation ☀️ Some quietly lying on the beach sunbathing 🧹 Except for a quietly sweeping cleaner, no other humans are around It feels like accidentally stumbling into a camel kingdom. Even more surprisingly: the coastline of the fishing village cleverly features several beautiful Arabic-style shaded leisure platforms, very much like a hidden seaside viewing gallery. We set up camp in the deepest corner; at this moment, the entire beach has only camels and the two of us—solitude so unreal. 🐢 03|The Secret of the Sea Turtles: Small Mounds on the Sand Dunes Small mounds on the beach caught my attention, their surfaces covered with fine crawl marks. Upon closer observation, I realized: 👉 These are nests left by sea turtles laying eggs! At that moment, only one thought— Tomorrow morning, maybe we’ll witness sea turtles returning to or leaving their nests, and this anticipation makes the night gentle. 🌇 04|Godlike Sunset: Pink Waves Rolling Ashore with Starlight At dusk, the fishing village staged an unforgettable sunset. 🌤️ A streak of cloud just grazed the center of the setting sun, creating multiple halos 🩷 The waves rolled ashore with pink-golden glow 🌊 The blending of water and sky showed a gradient of pink and blue, like sprinkled stardust ✨ Every wave sparkled as if with a built-in filter We sat side by side on the white sand, watching the sun slowly sink into the sea, the afterglow stretching our shadows long. At that moment, we finally understood— What “the most beautiful sunset of a lifetime” means. 🌌 05|Nightfall and the Soft Sounds of Camels: The Ultimate Peace of the Border Fishing Village After nightfall, all you can hear is: The rhythmic breathing of the waves The occasional soft sounds of camels The heartbeat between us under the cool starry sky This border romance and tranquility is the most memorable part of the entire Oman trip. 📌 Tips|Must-Know for Visiting the Southern Oman Border Fishing Village 🚰 No supply points: water, drinks, and food must be purchased in Rayzut or Salalah 🧴 There is actually a super nice public restroom here where you can take a shower 🛣️ Road conditions are good: very few vehicles near the border area 📍 Very remote location: be sure to arrive during the day 🐪 Watch out for camels crossing the road, especially at dusk 💤 Camping gear must be complete 🧭 Haichi’s Summary|Why is it worth traveling here? ✓ A wilder, quieter, and purer coastline than Salalah ✓ The amazing scene of camels living freely in the fishing village, rare worldwide ✓ Pink-golden waves + open horizon = one of the few godlike sunsets ✓ Sea turtle nesting sites make nature’s wonder tangible and real ✓ True solitude, bringing travel back to its original meaning: dialogue with the world and oneself If you’re tired of crowds and want a sea that truly belongs to you, head south. Because there lies Oman’s wildest, most romantic, and most irreplaceable coastal secret.
