It is recommended to start playing here first, as the lighting effect is excellent for taking photos 🥾 Hiking adventure starts from the beach, hiking along the coastline to enjoy magnificent sea views and unique rock formations 🦜 This is a bird watching destination where you can feed seagulls and watch puffins. Situated around a mile to the east of the town of Durness, the cave can be explored by a path from the car park. Amazing waterfall with cove and sea, you need to walk down and up the stairs from the car park, not suitable for those with walking difficulty. The cave is accessible all year free, but still must see the rain, even a small amount of rain can cause the cave to flood quickly, so on these days there will be no tours. This is the place you must visit if you are travelling on NC 500.

#holidayitinerary Smoo Cave near Durness is such a cool stop if you’re cruising along the North Coast 500. It’s right off the road, super easy to get to, and way bigger than it looks from the outside. You walk down a wooden staircase into this giant sea cave, and the entrance alone is wild, massive, echoey, and carved by the sea. Inside, there’s a walkway that takes you to a chamber with a waterfall pouring through a hole in the ceiling. It looks super dramatic, especially if it's been raining. We didn’t do the boat tour deeper into the cave (it wasn’t running that day), but it sounded fun if you're into that kind of underground adventure. The walk down and back up isn’t too tough, but wear good shoes if it’s been wet. There’s a little car park and some info signs that explain the geology and Viking history, which is pretty interesting. Definitely a quick but memorable stop on the northern coast.

I enjoyed a leisurely walk along the shore, soaking in the natural beauty and tranquility of the place. The contrast between the deep blue waters and the golden sands was simply mesmerizing. Nearby, the village of Durness has charming local cafes and shops where you can relax and savor some traditional Scottish fare. Also, don’t miss a visit to the nearby Smoo Cave, a fascinating sea cave with impressive rock formations and waterfalls.
