Israel's Acre Old City, filled with Mediterranean sensibility
#2026New Year's Greetings
Akko, a port city in northern Israel, is a charming city with preserved traces of ancient and medieval times. In particular, the Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is steeped in history, with every alleyway immersed in history.
Walking through the stone walls and narrow alleyways feels like stepping back into the Crusader era. Akko is a city steeped in layers of Ottoman, Crusader, and Islamic culture, resulting in a diverse range of architectural styles that are truly fascinating to explore.
The most notable sites I visited were the Akko Citadel and the Crusader Tunnels. The tunnels were surprisingly long and well-preserved, which was particularly impressive. Walking along the passages leading to the seashore, imagining how soldiers once moved was a unique experience.
1. Plan an itinerary with Haifa – It's about a 30-minute drive from Haifa, making it a great day trip.
2.
Purchase a combined Citadel ticket – This is an efficient way to see multiple historical sites.
3. Hats and sunglasses are essential in summer – the beachfront location means the sun is strong.
4. Recommended visit around sunset – the view of the city walls and the Mediterranean sunset is truly breathtaking.

Walking Through Akko (Acre) 🏺🌊 Timeless Streets by the Sea
#winterescape
Walking through Akko (Acre) feels like moving through layers of history at the same time. This ancient port city in northern Israel is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the region, and every step through the Old City tells a story. 🏺✨
The narrow stone streets, thick walls, and arches come from different eras — Crusader, Ottoman, and earlier periods — all built on top of each other. Akko’s Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you really feel why: underground halls, old fortifications, hidden courtyards, and passages that suddenly open toward the sea. 🌊
What makes these walks special is the atmosphere. You hear waves hitting the walls, smell spices from small shops, and see everyday life happening inside buildings that are hundreds of years old. Fishermen, locals chatting, cats resting in the shade — nothing feels staged.
Akko is not loud or flashy. It’s calm, authentic, and deeply rooted in history. A place where walking slowly is the best way to understand it.

Ako Old City Gomida
#AugustTravelSupportEvent GOMIDA, a restaurant I ate at in Acre Old City, Israel.
It's a small restaurant located in an area populated by Arabs.
I stumbled upon it without searching, and the food was delicious, the staff friendly, and the prices reasonable. I had a satisfying meal.

Ako's famous restaurant gomida
#SoutheastAsiaFlightEvent I stumbled upon this restaurant while exploring Ako Old Town. It's more of a cafeteria than a restaurant. Run by an Arab, it was very reasonably priced.
I ordered a pita, a toasted wheat flour bread with a choice of main ingredient, assorted vegetables, and sauces. It was delicious.

Ako's Old City
#SoutheastAsiaFlightEvent The entire old town of Acre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
At the entrance to the village, you can see uniquely decorated houses, reminiscent of an art village. The Israeli houses, built with stone walls and sometimes appearing rather plain, are painted and decorated, giving them a vibrant and beautiful appearance.

Ako Old City Market
#HotelVoucherEvent Akko, Israel, a city steeped in history and beauty. Visit the traditional market in Akko's Old City. Here, you can experience the local lifestyle with spices, fruit, and fish. With a larger Muslim population than Jewish residents, prices feel reasonable. Fruit is fresh and affordable, so be sure to stock up on some for your trip.
