Travel Information and Route Starting Point: Begins behind the Rifugio Auronzo building (separate from the Tre Cime trail). Duration: Round trip approximately 1 to 1.5 hours (30-40 minutes each way). Lago di Braies, Dolomites, Italy 🇮🇹🏔️💚 Lago di Braies, also known as Pragser Wildsee, is one of the most breathtaking alpine lakes in the Dolomites of northern Italy. Surrounded by towering limestone peaks, dense forests, and crystal-clear turquoise water, it looks almost too perfect to be real. The lake is especially famous for its traditional wooden boats and charming boathouse, sitting against a dramatic mountain backdrop. On a calm morning, the peaks reflect perfectly on the water, creating a scene that feels like a painting. 🚣♂️✨ Walking around the lake is an experience in itself. Every turn reveals a different view—deep green forests, rugged mountains, peaceful trails, and the incredible blue-green water. Lago di Braies is one of those places you see in photographs and think it can’t possibly look that beautiful in real life—until you stand there and see it with your own eyes. 💚🏔️✨

📍 Passo Giau (2,236 m) Region: Dolomites, Italy Located between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Selva di Cadore. This spot turned out to be one of the major highlights of our Dolomites road trip. The biggest perk of Passo Giau is that you don't need to embark on a grueling hike to soak in the incredible views. You drive practically right up to the viewpoint, greeted by surrounding mountains, alpine meadows, and the iconic peaks of the Dolomites. 🚗 If you're driving: · the scenic drive is absolutely gorgeous; · parking is available right by the pass; · it's best to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon — there are fewer crowds and better lighting for photography. 🥾 You can easily take a leisurely stroll around the pass or tackle one of the designated hiking trails. Even a quick walk rewards you with breathtaking panoramas. My advice: don't pencil in Passo Giau for just a "15-minute quick stop." You'll find yourself wanting to pull over at every bend, sip coffee while overlooking the mountains, and simply take in the moment. For me, it's definitely one of those places in Italy I'd love to revisit. ⭐ Rating: 10/10 for the views and the overall vibe.

Tre Cime di Lavaredo is definitely on the bucket list of many travelers, and after seeing it with my own eyes, I can honestly say that it is absolutely beautiful. It is one of those places in the Dolomites that really feels worth the effort. If you are driving here, I highly recommend booking the parking in advance. In 2026, the parking fee for a car is €40, and you can book it through the official Auronzo website. If you are renting a car and do not have the license plate number yet, you can add it later once you receive the car, but make sure to update it before your visit. On the day of your hike, you can drive all the way up to Rifugio Auronzo, which is the main starting point for the Tre Cime trails. There is a restaurant, accommodation, and restrooms here, so it is a good idea to get everything ready before starting your walk. From Rifugio Auronzo, the classic route follows Trail 101 towards Rifugio Lavaredo. The first part is not too difficult, and the scenery is already beautiful from the beginning. If you do not want to walk very far, you can even walk to around Rifugio Lavaredo and return from there. If you continue further, you will reach Forcella Lavaredo, one of the best viewpoints where you can start seeing the famous northern faces of Tre Cime more clearly. This was one of my favorite viewpoints along the route. If you still have enough time and energy, I would definitely recommend continuing towards Rifugio Locatelli, also known as Drei Zinnen Hütte. The scenery around this area is incredible, and there are also old World War I military positions and small caves nearby. One of the popular photo spots is inside a rocky opening where you can frame Tre Cime perfectly in the background. Unfortunately, we did not manage to reach this point on our visit, and it is probably the part I regret missing the most. The full Tre Cime route can be done as a loop, passing Rifugio Lavaredo, Forcella Lavaredo, Rifugio Locatelli and then returning via Lange Alm back to Rifugio Auronzo. If the weather is good and you have enough time, I think doing the full loop is definitely worthwhile because you get to see Tre Cime from many different angles. On the day we visited, the weather was beautiful during the morning, but at around 3:00 PM it suddenly started raining, so we decided not to push ourselves and turned back. Weather in the Dolomites can change very quickly, so even if the sky looks clear in the morning, it does not always stay that way for the whole day. If you are planning to complete the full loop or want to reach the photo spots near Rifugio Locatelli, I would recommend starting early and always carrying a rain jacket with you. For me, Tre Cime is one of those places where the photos already look beautiful, but seeing it in real life is even more impressive. #dolomites #dolomiteshikes #trecime #trecimedilavaredo #Dreizinnen #bucketlistdestinations

Choosing where to stay can completely change your Dolomites experience. The region is large, and while the landscapes are close on a map, mountain roads can take longer than expected. Picking the right base will help you spend less time driving and more time enjoying the views. 📍 Ortisei (Val Gardena) | Best for first-time visitors Ortisei is one of the most convenient and beautiful places to stay. From here, you have easy access to Seceda and Alpe di Siusi, two of the most iconic spots in the Dolomites. The village itself has a charming atmosphere, great restaurants, cafés, and shops, making it perfect for travellers who want comfort after a day of exploring. 📍 Selva di Val Gardena | Best for hiking and mountain lovers Located deeper in the valley, Selva is ideal if you want to spend more time on the trails. It offers incredible views of the surrounding peaks and direct access to many hiking routes. 📍 Santa Cristina | Best for a quieter stay Between Ortisei and Selva, Santa Cristina offers a more peaceful atmosphere while still being close to the main attractions of Val Gardena. It is a great choice if you prefer a relaxing alpine village experience. 📍 Cortina d’Ampezzo | Best for iconic scenery Known as the “Queen of the Dolomites”, Cortina is the perfect base for exploring Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Lago di Braies, and Cadini di Misurina. It has a more upscale feel, with excellent restaurants and stunning mountain views. 📍 San Candido / Dobbiaco | Best for lakes and eastern Dolomites These towns are ideal if your itinerary focuses on Lago di Braies, Tre Cime, and the surrounding areas. They also offer easy access to scenic walks and family friendly activities. 📍 Canazei | Best for mountain passes and road trips Surrounded by some of the most dramatic peaks, Canazei is a great choice for exploring Passo Sella, Passo Pordoi, and the famous Sella Group. 💡 My recommendation for a first trip: Stay 3 to 4 nights in Val Gardena (Ortisei, Selva, or Santa Cristina) to explore the western Dolomites, then move east towards Cortina or Dobbiaco to visit Tre Cime and Lago di Braies without spending hours driving each day. The Dolomites are not just about ticking off famous viewpoints. Staying in the right village allows you to experience quiet mornings, local food, mountain sunsets, and the peaceful atmosphere that makes this region so special. #Dolomites #SouthTyrol #ItalyTravel #Ortisei #ValGardena #CortinaDAmpezzo #Canazei #MountainEscape #AlpineVillage #TravelGuide #ExploreItaly #TripMoments #ItalyVacation #HiddenGems #TravelInspiration

The Dolomites are one of the most photogenic places in Europe. Around every corner you’ll find dramatic mountain peaks, emerald lakes, charming churches, and scenic alpine meadows. If you’re planning a trip, these are the photo spots that deserve a place on your itinerary. 📍 1. Seceda The famous ridgeline with the jagged Odle peaks is one of the most iconic views in the Dolomites. Visit early in the morning for the softest light and fewer people. 📍 2. Alpe di Siusi Rolling green meadows, traditional wooden huts, and mountain backdrops make this one of the most peaceful landscapes in South Tyrol. 📍 3. Santa Maddalena One of Italy’s most photographed villages, with the beautiful church framed by the dramatic Odle Mountains. 📍 4. St. Johann Church (Ranui) A tiny church sitting alone in the middle of a meadow, surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the Alps. 📍 5. Lago di Braies Crystal clear emerald water, wooden boats, and towering peaks have made this lake famous around the world. 📍 6. Lago di Carezza Known as the Rainbow Lake, its vibrant colours and mountain reflections are especially beautiful on sunny mornings. 📍 7. Passo Giau One of the most scenic mountain passes in Italy, with panoramic views that stretch for miles in every direction. 📍 8. Cadini di Misurina Viewpoint A short hike leads to one of the most dramatic viewpoints in the Dolomites, where sharp ridges create an unforgettable landscape. 📍 9. Tre Cime di Lavaredo The iconic three peaks are breathtaking from every angle, especially along the classic hiking loop. 📍 10. Passo delle Erbe Less crowded than many famous viewpoints, this mountain pass offers wide open landscapes and spectacular views of the Odle range. 💡 Photography tips: · Visit at sunrise or sunset for the best light. · Arrive early at popular locations like Lago di Braies and Seceda to avoid crowds. · Bring a wide-angle lens if you have one, as the mountain landscapes are enormous. · Always stay on marked paths to help protect these fragile alpine environments. No matter how many photos you take, the Dolomites are one of those places that look even more impressive in real life. Every stop along the way offers a completely different perspective, making it a dream destination for photographers and nature lovers alike. #Dolomites #Photography #ItalyTravel #Seceda #AlpeDiSiusi #LagoDiBraies #LagoDiCarezza #TreCime #ValDiFunes #PassoGiau #CadiniDiMisurina #ExploreItaly #TravelPhotography #TripMoments #BucketList

Tre Cime di Lavaredo is a popular hiking trail in the Dolomites where you can go up to see the iconic three peaks of this mountain range. The hike is roughly a 10-kilometer loop around the mountain. The entire trail is gorgeous and an easy walk, so don't worry—kids can easily do it too. I actually brought my own child along for the hike! Starting Point You should pin your location to Rifugio Auronzo to park at this mountain hut. There's a massive parking lot right before the trailhead. The parking fee is 30 euros per day. Taking the bus is an option, but it can be quite tricky since the schedule is very limited. Another major highlight you absolutely can't miss is a photo spot inside an old World War-era cave. From there, you can capture a stunning shot of the three peaks framed perfectly by the cave opening—it's incredibly beautiful. Be sure to make the trek up to the cave! It requires an extra hike of about 1 kilometer, but despite the slightly longer distance, it's totally worth it for the amazing photos.

If there’s one destination in Europe that constantly appears on travel bucket lists, it’s the Dolomites. With dramatic mountain peaks, crystal-clear alpine lakes, winding scenic roads, and charming villages, this region in northern Italy looks like it was designed specifically for photographers and nature lovers. One of the most common questions before planning a trip is simple: “How many days do you actually need in the Dolomites?” The answer depends on your travel style, but after looking at distances, viewpoints, hiking opportunities, and weather conditions, the sweet spot is surprisingly clear. ⏳ 3 Days 2 Nights – Possible, But Rushed A short trip can work if you’re already traveling through Italy and want to add the Dolomites to your itinerary. In three days, it’s possible to visit some of the most iconic highlights such as Lago di Braies, Seceda, and Tre Cime di Lavaredo. You’ll get a taste of the scenery and leave with incredible photos. However, the biggest challenge is time. The Dolomites are larger than many first-time visitors expect. Driving between viewpoints takes time, cable cars operate on schedules, and mountain weather can change quickly. If one day is rainy or foggy, a large part of the trip can be affected. Three days is enough to see the highlights, but not enough to truly experience the region. 🚗 5 Days 4 Nights – The Perfect Balance For most travelers, five days is the ideal amount of time. It allows enough flexibility to explore at a comfortable pace without feeling rushed from one location to another. A classic route could look like this: 📍 Day 1 – Ortisei Arrive, settle in, and explore one of the most beautiful alpine towns in the region. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food is excellent, and it’s the perfect base for the adventure ahead. 📍 Day 2 – Seceda & Alpe di Siusi This is often the day that makes people fall in love with the Dolomites. The dramatic ridgeline of Seceda is one of the most photographed landscapes in Italy, while Alpe di Siusi offers rolling meadows and postcard-perfect mountain views. 📍 Day 3 – Passo Giau & Cinque Torri Scenic roads, epic viewpoints, and some of the best photography spots in the entire region. Every turn feels like a movie scene. 📍 Day 4 – Tre Cime di Lavaredo & Lago di Misurina Perhaps the most iconic mountains in the Dolomites. The hiking trails, panoramic viewpoints, and reflections on the lake create unforgettable moments. 📍 Day 5 – Lago di Braies End the trip at the famous emerald-green lake often described as one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe. Five days provides enough time to enjoy sunrise, sunset, local food, scenic drives, and spontaneous stops without constantly watching the clock. 📸 7 Days 6 Nights – A Dream for Nature Lovers If photography, hiking, and slow travel are priorities, seven days is even better. The extra days allow you to: ✨ Wait for better weather ✨ Photograph sunrise and sunset ✨ Explore hidden villages ✨ Enjoy longer hikes ✨ Experience the mountains without rushing Many of the most memorable moments in the Dolomites happen unexpectedly. A dramatic cloud inversion, golden evening light, or a peaceful morning by an alpine lake can’t always be scheduled. More time means more opportunities to experience those magical moments. 🌄 Why the Dolomites Feel Different The Dolomites aren’t just about ticking landmarks off a list. They’re about slowing down. They’re about stopping at a random viewpoint because the scenery is too beautiful to ignore. They’re about enjoying a mountain hut lunch with panoramic views, driving through winding alpine passes, and discovering places that never seem to appear on postcards. Unlike many destinations where travelers rush from attraction to attraction, the Dolomites reward those who take their time. ✨ Final Verdict If your goal is simply to see the highlights, 3 days can work. If you want the best overall experience, 5 days is the perfect balance. And if you love photography, hiking, and unforgettable landscapes, 7 days might still feel too short. Because in the Dolomites, the mountains aren’t the only attraction. The journey between them is just as spectacular. ::: #Dolomites #DolomitesItaly #ItalyTravel #NorthernItaly #Seceda #TreCime #LagoDiBraies #AlpeDiSiusi #PassoGiau #RoadTripEurope #EuropeTravel #TravelGuide #BucketListTravel #MountainLovers #TripMoments

🇮🇹 Italy 10-Day Self-Drive Itinerary 🌄 Dolomites + Tuscany Itinerary Overview: Venice → Dolomites (Funes Valley → Alpe di Siusi → Lake Braies) → Florence → Tuscany → Venice 🚗 Transportation Tips Flying from Shanghai to Venice during the May Day holiday for a 10-day in-depth trip to Italy. Since the main destinations are the Dolomites and Tuscany, I chose to land in Venice and rent a car for self-driving to avoid transfer hassles and have an amazing experience. Venice airport is small, car rental prices are very affordable, with rental plus full insurance averaging about 400 RMB per day. 🌄 Daily Itinerary 💡 Day 1: Arrive in Venice in the morning. The main city area is small, half a day is enough for sightseeing and eating. If you want to enter the cathedral, you must book in advance. In the afternoon, head to the Dolomites. Summer sunsets are late; arriving at Funes Valley around 7:30 PM perfectly catches the golden hour on the mountains—absolutely stunning! 💡 Day 2: Morning visit to Alpe di Siusi. Most cable cars are not open during May Day, only Alpe di Siusi is accessible. Hike the loop trail to see the sharp peaks, about 1.5 hours. Then drive to Lake Braies. The sun is too strong in the afternoon, and there’s a queue for boating, so the experience is average. Afterwards, visit Lake Misurina to see the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, but the scenic area is closed, requiring a detour. 💡 Day 3: Hike the Adolf trail in Funes Valley. This is the most recommended trail for May in the Dolomites! Close-up views of the continuous snow-capped mountains, very beginner-friendly. 💡 Day 4: Drive from Funes Valley to Florence, with a stopover in Verona. Arrive in Florence by evening and go straight to Michelangelo Square to watch the sunset! 💡 Day 5-6: Explore museums and art galleries in Florence. Must-visits: Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery. City strolls and shopping are also great. 💡 Day 7-8: Self-drive to Tuscany, visit the medieval towns of Siena, San Gimignano, and Pienza. Favorite is San Gimignano! The gelato is amazing. Classic cypress tree road, a popular photo spot with stunning views. 💡 Day 9: Drive back to Venice. Recommended to stay in Padua, close to the airport and affordable, perfect for catching early flights. 💡 Day 10: ✈️ Return home Accommodation 🏨 Genziana Located in the center of Ortisei, a four-star hotel, the best lodging choice for skiing and hiking in the Dolomites, with complete facilities and excellent service. 🏨 Nois Guest House Located in the center of St. Magdalena, a four-star guesthouse, featured on the cover of Dolomites fairy tales, with freshly baked bread and homemade jam for breakfast, great value at around 1,000 RMB per person. 🏨 Hotel Savoia Cortina A five-star hotel in Cortina d'Ampezzo, the famous Winter Olympics town, a ski paradise loved by celebrities, offering a luxurious vacation experience. 🏨 Hotel La Valle A three-star hotel in Pienza, rated 8.9 with over 1,200 reviews, free parking outside the city walls and outside the ZTL zone, the top choice for lodging in Tuscan towns.

During my trip to the Dolomites in Italy, I discovered Giau Pass, a true gem for capturing stunning photos. The winding mountain roads, lush green meadows, and striking rock formations create a breathtaking scene that feels like a picture-perfect moment. Easily accessible by trekking or driving, it's an ideal spot to take a break and soak in the scenery. 📍Tips ✔️ Visit early in the morning: The soft sunlight on the mountains and meadows makes for beautiful photos. ✔️ Bring a tripod: Perfect for panoramic shots or family photos. ✔️ Pack some light snacks: Great for enjoying the view while taking a break.

Step into an Italian fairy tale✨ A journey to the hidden paradise of the Dolomites, with meadows, cattle, castles… every frame looks like a Monet painting🌿 🛤 Highlights of the trip: From the castle adventure at Wegeskreuz to Ciastel Colz, and then to the stunning Forcella Travenanzes pass, this off-the-beaten-path route hides the most healing pastoral poetry of the Alps. The cowbells ring throughout the valley, and every step offers desktop wallpaper-level scenery! 📍 DAY 1 A painterly starting point / Wegeskreuz Lookout / ▫️ Address: G2J7+66, Cortina d'Ampezzo ▫️ Tips: The cross landmark in the early morning mist looks dusted with gold powder. Remember to bring a telephoto lens to capture grazing cows and the morning light. 📍 DAY 2 A medieval dream / Ciastel Colz Castle / ▫️ Address: Str. Marin 80, La Villa ▫️ Secret spot: The apple trees in the castle’s back garden frame the snowy peaks. For afternoon tea, we recommend the wild mushroom pasta at Trattoria Unterinn in town. 📍 DAY 3 Walking among the clouds / Forcella Travenanzes Pass / ▫️ A year-round mountain paradise! The hiking trails are clearly marked. If you come across the alpine chapel, don’t forget to ring the wishing bell🔔 🐄 Insider tip: Locals say that when herding sheep up the mountain in May, the entire meadow turns into a moving cloud! Remember to pack a local Speck ham sandwich in your backpack—picnicking under the beech trees is super romantic~ 🚗 Travel tips: It’s recommended to drive between towns (rent from Avis/Budget), as some narrow roads require experienced drivers; public transport only works with the Southtirol Mobil pass. 🍎 Food radar: ▪️ Venison dumplings at La Stua de Michil ▪️ Apple strudel with elderflower tea at Caffè Concerto ▪️ Fresh blueberries at the Thursday market in Castelrotto town

The Cadini di Misurina, or Cadini Group in the Dolomites, is a must-see viewpoint. It's a 1-2 hour hike from Rifugio Auronzo, and the round trip distance is about 3.2 km. The route offers stunning views all along the way, with sharp peaks resembling a fantasy movie set and stunning photos with the Tre Cime di Lavaredo as the backdrop. The path is narrow and cliff-side, so be careful, especially if the weather is wet. While the route isn't easy, the views at the end are well worth it. It's recommended to visit before noon or in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. During peak season, there are some queues at the main viewpoint, which can be quite crowded. The golden hour is when the sun is low, when the viewpoints are beautiful and the clouds forming atop the peaks create impressive shots. In conclusion, the Cadini Group is a short but scenic trail, perfect for photographers and nature lovers who want to experience the grandeur of the Dolomites. 🌏 If you've been there, let's discuss your favorite Dolomite checkpoints. If you're still hesitant, I highly recommend a trip here at least once in your life. #TravelTalk

#Travel to save the world Today, we will take you to hike up Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the Dolomites. We start from Rifugio Auronzo, which is the accommodation and starting point of the trail. As we walk, we will see a view of three magnificent rocky peaks. Although we are tired from the uphill path, it is worth it when we see the peaks of Cima Grande, Cima Piccola, and Cima Ovest up close. The trail is about 10 kilometers long and takes about 3-5 hours, including taking photos. There are rest stops and small chapels along the way. The weather is cool and comfortable, so it is suitable to wear a windbreaker and prepare drinking water. Anyone who loves nature and high mountain views must not miss this place!

Today, we’re taking you on a trail hike at Cadini di Misurina. Let me tell you, it’s exhausting! The uphill path is no joke—it’s tough and leaves you breathless. But once you reach the viewpoint... wow! The breathtaking scenery will leave you speechless. You’ll get a full view of the sharp peaks and intricate mountain ranges of the Dolomites. It’s absolutely worth the effort! The trail isn’t very long, but you need to be cautious of narrow paths and steep cliffs. If you’re planning to visit, make sure to bring good hiking shoes and plenty of water because you’ll sweat a lot. In summary, it’s tiring but totally worth it. If you love nature and stunning views, this is a must-visit spot!
