We thought since it’s not a popular spot, we didn’t book in advance. But when we arrived at Datan Town, many seemingly nice guesthouses were fully booked! The autumn colors in Bashang are beautiful, but the “peak period” lasts only about 20 days! Around mid-October. We went a week early, and the leaves were half yellow and half green. It was still beautiful, but lacked that overwhelming, vibrant mountain-wide color. Be sure to time it right—recommend going between October 10th and 25th. If you miss it, you’ll have to wait another year. ❌ Pitfall Bringing the wrong clothes and freezing like crazy in the morning and evening! During the day with the sun, a single long-sleeve shirt can even feel a bit hot. But once the sun sets, the temperature drops sharply, and with the strong grassland wind, it feels close to freezing. We brought down jackets for the kids but only softshell jackets for ourselves, and ended up shivering while watching the sunset.
