Coming here for May Day is the real “vacation”~ 🌿 Shaoguan, Guangdong: Rainy Days as Beautiful as Ink Paintings · Why go: So low-key that hardly anyone knows! Opening the window of a guesthouse feels like stepping into a “paradise on earth,” with the air carrying the fresh scent of wet plants. · Must-visit with kids: The shallow waters of the Yao ethnic new village are perfect for playing in the water. The creek is so clear you can see the pebbles, kids chase little fish, and parents sip tea chatting on the shore — so comfortable you won’t want to leave. · Hidden perk: Nearby hot spring hotels offer great value (300+ RMB/night). After a day of exploring, soak in the hot springs while watching rain hit the banana leaves outside the window — pure healing. 🌊 Hechi, Guangxi: Underground Starry Sky and Blue Sea · Fewer people than Chongzuo, cheaper than Guilin: The “Sanmen Sea” here is magical — an underground river flows through caves, with water turning transparent blue on cloudy days and emerald green on sunny days. Ride a boat through the karst caves, with stalactites overhead resembling a starry sky. The boatman says, “This is the eye of the earth.” · Must experience: The “Yaowang Tianxia” viewing platform, where in the early morning clouds roll over the Yao village, wooden buildings appear and disappear in the mist, wilder and more charming than terraced fields. Stay overnight in a Yao village guesthouse, listen to elders sing ancient songs, and smell roasted corn filling the alleys. 🏞️ Qingyuan, Guangdong: Ancient Villages, Sea of Clouds, and Jurassic Forest · Youling Yao Village: An untouched ancient village with no entrance fee, stone paths covered in moss, and elders sitting at doorways embroidering. Every photo captures the charm of old Jiangnan, and best of all — no tour groups in sight. 💡 Reverse Travel Tips 1. These small towns don’t have very convenient transportation, so self-driving or checking bus schedules in advance is recommended (some roads in Hechi and Qingyuan are mountain roads, drive slowly); 2. Choose local guesthouses for accommodation; the owners will tell you hidden gems (like which morning tea in Lanxi is most authentic, or which creek in Shaoguan has the fewest people); 3. Bring a light jacket, as mountain areas have big temperature differences between morning and night, and mornings in Hechi and Qingyuan can be a bit chilly. Don’t want to see crowds this May Day? Come to these small towns — listen to streams in the rain in Shaoguan, watch the starry sky in the caves of Hechi, wait for sunrise in the sea of clouds in Qingyuan, and savor Jiangnan morning tea in Lanxi. Real travel should be this comfortable~

Sanmenhai: Guangxi hides an "underground blue sea," and as soon as the boat enters the cave, it plunges into Tiffany blue As the boat just entered the first karst cave, the boatman Weber turned off the motor. In the darkness, only the sound of oars splashing water remained. Suddenly, a bright crack appeared ahead—sunlight pierced the water like a golden sword, and everyone on the boat exclaimed: the Tiffany blue river water glowed with fluorescence, the shadows of stalactites reflected in the water, and the boat seemed to be floating on suspended glass. 🌊 Three "skylights" are the blue eyes opened by the earth The first skylight was the most stunning. The cave entrance looked like a crescent moon, with sunlight slanting down and dyeing the river water in gradient blues—from mint green in the shallow parts to sapphire blue in the deep. Weber pointed at the cave ceiling with his bamboo pole: "Look at that stone curtain, doesn’t it look like a fairy’s skirt edge?" Indeed, the hanging stalactites bore water marks and appeared semi-transparent white in the light, their shadows cast on the water, blurring the line between reality and illusion. Passing through the second cave, water droplets suddenly dripped from above, splashing on the boat deck. Weber said this was "thousand-year water." He caught a drop in his hand, cold as ice. The stalagmites on the cave walls grew in strange shapes—some like elephant trunks, others like Buddha’s hands in prayer. "These stones grow 0.1 millimeters every day. What you see now is the result of a hundred thousand years." 🌈 Sunlight hits the water, breaking into a rainbow The most magical moment was at the third cave’s exit. The sunlight slanted perfectly on the water surface, and as the boat sailed out of the shadow, it encountered a rainbow—not hanging in the sky, but floating in the water, with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, as if you could reach out and touch it. Weber stopped the boat and showed us the bottom: "In shallow water, you can see fish that live their whole lives inside the cave, their eyes gradually regressing." Sure enough, a few translucent little fish swam past the boat bottom like flowing silver strands. On one cave wall, there were symbols carved by ancient people. Weber said these were "signposts" that mountain dwellers used to find water sources. Now the water level has risen, and the symbols are only half visible, like a secret left for the earth. On the return trip, the sunlight shifted direction, and the river water turned emerald green again. "This water comes from the underground river of Fengshan, traveling hundreds of miles before finding these three exits," Weber pushed the pole, "just like the light inside a person’s heart, it always finds a crack to shine through." 🌿 Outside the cave, the mountains hide more coolness After disembarking, a ten-minute walk along the mountain path leads to a bamboo forest. When the wind blows, the bamboo leaves rustle, mimicking the sound of water inside the cave. Under a rock, there is a clear spring. Weber said drinking it can brighten your eyes. We took a few sips; it was sweet with a hint of mountain bitterness. In the distance, the karst peaks stood like rows of soldiers. "Those mountains are hollow inside, hiding countless underground rivers. Sanmenhai is just three of their exits." When leaving, Weber was mending fishing nets at the dock, his shadow stretched long in the sunlight. Suddenly, I understood why it’s called "Sanmenhai"—not a sea, yet more mysterious than the sea; not a door, yet it lets you see the heartbeat of the earth. That Tiffany blue water is the earth’s eye, watching sunrises and sunsets for a hundred thousand years, still waiting for us, the accidental visitors, to read the poems hidden in the caves. Practical Guide · Transportation: Take a bus from Nanning Langdong Bus Station to Fengshan County (5 hours, 80 RMB), then a 40-minute taxi to the scenic area (about 50 RMB); self-driving from Nanning takes 4.5 hours (via Guangkun Expressway → Hebai Expressway, navigate to "Fengshan Sanmenhai Scenic Area"). · Boat Tips: Choose boats between 10 AM and 2 PM (best sunlight, easier to see rainbows); wear non-slip shoes (dock stone steps are slippery); sit on the left side of the boat for better photos of backlit blue water. · Hidden Experience: Find the "Fourth Skylight" (undeveloped, located on the back mountain of the scenic area, requires a local guide, offers a view of a more pristine underground river entrance); watch the sunset at the dock in the evening, with peak reflections in the water resembling an ink painting. · Must-Try Food: Fengshan County’s "Youcha Fish" (river fish cooked with local tea oil, 35 RMB/serving), "Huoma Porridge" (stomach-soothing dessert, 5 RMB/bowl, available at breakfast stalls). What’s the most "unreal" natural scene you’ve ever seen? A rainbow in the water or a blue sea inside a cave? Share your thoughts in the comments~
