Just a 55-minute train rode from St Pancras and we found ourselves on the coast having the most spectacular beach day and taking in the art and sculpture trails. Walk along the Harbour Arm. Stop for a drink or ice cream. If you’re lucky there will be live music playing at the band stand. Want to sit on the sand and dip your toes in? Or maybe you prefer a shingle beach? Spent a few days in Folkestone and honestly get why people keep recommending it now. It’s one of those places that doesn’t try too hard. Sea views everywhere, small independent spots instead of chains, and a slower pace that actually makes you switch off for a bit. Walked from the beach up through the old streets and ended up finding random cafés, bookshops, and little art spaces hidden everywhere. The coastal walks were unreal too, especially early in the morning before everything got busy. Folkestone feels different from the usual UK seaside towns. Love Folkestone so much and Carlton Hotel hep me have the bets of it. It is a small, tidy and comfortable one on Folkestone leas, has wonderful views of the sea. Me and my boyfriend had so much exploring the high street, having seafood and seeing our loved ones over the weekend. I’d definitely go back and pick Carlton to stay in upcoming summer holidays! Situated perfectly at the top of the zig-zag path leading to the beach and less than a 10-minute walk into town. We stayed in a spacious family room with a sea view (booked in advance). Enjoyed a meal there—wine and pizza that were absolutely delicious. Had interactions with manager Mel at the front desk and in the bar/restaurant, and she was incredibly friendly and helpful. A fantastic stay, and we’d definitely come back.
