A 30-year-old Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles – a journey through time
Today I want to share a hidden gem of a Japanese restaurant that I personally love. Seriously, I'm not exaggerating; from the moment you step into this place, only one image comes to mind: 👉 Doraemon's Anywhere Door 🚪 It feels like you've instantly traveled from LA to Japan 🇯🇵.
The decor, the furnishings, and the overall atmosphere are all perfectly executed, yet it's quite understated. Almost all the customers are Japanese, which is a huge plus.
I've tried their breakfast and dinner, and
My overall impression is:
✔️ Authentic taste
✔️ Generous portions
✔️ Very reasonable prices
And each dish has that special Japanese ritualistic feel, making the meal itself a truly enjoyable experience.
Let me tell you about my favorite dish 👇
🍛 Curry Pork Cutlet Rice
It looks simple, but it's really delicious! The curry is the typical Japanese style, with a slightly sweet flavor. I suspect they might have added apples 🍎 during cooking; it's very mild and goes perfectly with rice. The curry was generously filled with beef, carrots, and potatoes.
The fried pork cutlet had a light, crispy exterior that wasn't greasy, and the perfectly balanced shredded lettuce underneath made for a delightfully satisfying combination.
🐟 Japanese Breakfast Set Meal
This set is highly recommended!
We opted for the fish set, but you can also choose beef. The set meals come in A/B/C/D options, differing only in the main dish and whether or not natto is included. The fish was perfectly fried, with a slightly charred exterior and tender interior, and the chilled tofu was smooth and delicious.
Those who love Japanese breakfasts will understand the joy 🤍 If you're looking for a quiet, atmospheric place in LA that feels like dining in Japan, this is definitely worth adding to your list.

What we ordered:
🍜Sauerkraut Prime Beef Noodle Soup (老坛酸菜肥牛面)
🍜 Noodle with Soy Bean Paste (炸酱面)
The order-at-the-counter Chinese restaurant has a massive menu full of everything from dan dan noodles to cumin lamb to beef rolls, and while everything is good, you’re in line for the dumplings. Stuffed with juicy pork and crab or shrimp, egg, and chive, these are some of the better tasting dumplings you’ll find in there.
Honestly the Sauerkraut was not my personal taste but I ordered it thinking it would be spicy since the picture on the menu looked vibrant red. Prices weren’t all too bad but sad to see inflation increases all these prices super quick.
