The ancient road was carved into the cliffs, less than 1 meter wide and about 2 meters high, winding above the Nujiang River. It was carved by the ancients using the natural terrain, following the mountain, and was a huge project. It is hard to imagine that during the six-month rainy season, there is a risk of house collapse everywhere. The rain is heavy, making it difficult to walk, and a road must be opened between the stones. The ancient road where Wuli Village is located is not only an important road for the village to the outside world, but also a necessary road from Yunnan to Chayu County in Tibet. Qiunatong Catholic Church is located in Qiunatong Village, Bingzhongluo Town, in the most prominent position in the village. You can see it as soon as you enter the village via the mountain road. This church is a local landmark. From the outside, it looks more like a temple, with a brown and yellow exterior and gray tiles. A four-cornered pavilion is built on the double-eave roof, and a cross stands on the ridge. The cross can be seen from most angles in the village. Qiunatong Catholic Church has a long history. In 1841, a French missionary built a church here after crossing the Biluo Snow Mountain, but it was burned down a year later due to the "Bengka Incident." In 1888, Father Ren Anshou came to the Nujiang Grand Canyon. After the Baihanluo Incident in 1905, Father Ren Anshou used the compensation from the Qing government to build a new church in Qiunatong Village, which was completed in 1908. It became the northernmost point of Catholicism in the Nujiang River Basin. Villagers from here and Deqin on the other side of the mountain often come to the church to participate in activities. It is the main center of faith in the area and is well maintained.

"Qiunatong" is a Nu ethnic word meaning "black water dam." Qiunatong is located in a valley. On sunny days, villagers graze sheep on the hillside and grow corn and wheat in the fields next to their houses. The northern end of the Nujiang Grand Canyon is the border of Tibet. Today, the village's tourism industry is booming. There is a guesthouse called Abai, which serves delicious food. If you are driving, you can contact the owner in advance. Qiunatong is located in the valley of Biluo Snow Mountain. A small road behind the village leads to the other side of Meili Snow Mountain after a four-hour hike, offering a different view from Feilai Temple or Wunongding in Deqin. Few people know about this route, so you need a guide from the village. The village is preparing to build a viewing platform and level the road. In two or three years, it will become a popular hiking spot.

KOLON's choice of location is interesting. Bingzhongluo in Gongshan County is the starting point of the Bingzhongluo-Chamdo route into Tibet, so many off-road self-driving teams pass by to replenish supplies. Wuli Village is across the Nujiang River from this KOLON store. Sitting by the warm and bright window, you can clearly see the whole village on the opposite side. In the morning, you can see the morning mist, and in the evening, you can see the smoke from the kitchen chimneys. Black truffles are produced in the mountains near Bingzhongluo. The scientific name of the black truffle here is Tuber indicum, which usually grows in soft soil and matures in winter. It has a strong aroma and firm flesh. The best time to pick black truffles is from the beginning of winter to March of the following year. During this period, the truffles are mature, with a stronger aroma and firmer flesh. From March to October every year is the truffle picking ban period in Bingzhongluo. The protection work is very strict. Kolon and Jixia Mountain have joined hands to create this "ultimate destination store" at the entrance of Wuli Village. It is known as the holy land of the Three Rivers and the root of the Lisu people, the "Stone Moon" of the Nujiang River; and the ferry of the expeditionary army returning home.

The Nu people mainly make a living from agriculture, growing crops such as corn and buckwheat. Their traditional houses come in a variety of forms, with log cabins being the most common. They also collect stones from the mountains, process them into sheets, and cover the roofs with them. The layers of stones resemble fish scales. According to the most recent census, the Nu population is less than 37,000, with most of them living in Lushui, Fugong, and Gongshan counties in Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture. Wuli Village, which we are introducing today, is a typical Nu village located north of Bingzhongluo. The village roads are straight or curved according to the terrain, and the houses are built on different levels of the terrain. Most of the houses are Nu-style stilted log cabins made of wood, bluestone, bamboo, and other materials. The village is filled with smoke from cooking fires, and the men farm while the women weave, creating a scene reminiscent of the Peach Blossom Land. To the north of the village is a 1.5-kilometer section of the Ancient Tea Horse Road carved into the cliffs, which is the only passage to the outside world and a testament to the village's history. There are two ways to visit Wuli Village. If you are short on time, you can view the village from a distance at the viewing platform on National Highway 219, where you can see a panoramic view of Wuli Village. In the morning and evening, you can capture the scene of smoke and mist coexisting. There is a Kolon outdoor store next to the viewing platform, where you can buy a cup of coffee and sit in the scenic area along the river for an afternoon. The store also has an introduction to truffle picking and a nice environment. You can also enter the village from the south via a suspension bridge and walk south along the stone road and boardwalk to the Ancient Tea Horse Road, which is 3 kilometers long. You can get up close to the villagers' wooden houses, farmland, streams, and vegetation. On the Ancient Tea Horse Road, you can look back at the majestic Shimen Pass, with the rushing Nujiang River flowing at your feet. The 3-kilometer walk takes about 2–3 hours at a leisurely pace.

Continue along National Highway G219 for 5 km from Bingzhongluo, where the steep mountains on both sides of the Nujiang River are called Shimen Pass. 9 km further on, you will reach the Bingzhongluo Border Checkpoint. After checking your ID card, self-driving tourists can pass through. After a dozen kilometers, you will reach the Yunnan-Tibet border. The scenery along the way is beautiful, and you can occasionally see waterfalls hanging on the cliffs, thin and high. The rocks on both sides of the provincial border are engraved with the words "Yunnan" and "Tibet." Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture is located in the western part of Yunnan Province, within the Nujiang Gorge of the Hengduan Mountains, bordering Myanmar to the west. G219 serves as the main (and perhaps the only) transportation route running north-south through the prefecture. The road conditions on the Nujiang section of G219 are excellent, but as you continue from Bingzhongluo Town towards Chayu County in Nyingchi City, the road conditions suddenly deteriorate, turning into the famous 'Bingcha-Cha' crossing route. Our trip focused on Nujiang Prefecture and was conducted in winter. Daytime temperatures in the dry-hot valley can exceed 20 degrees Celsius, but nighttime temperatures are low, so be sure to adjust your clothing accordingly. The Nu River is majestic and grand during the summer flood season, while in winter, it shows a quieter side. Without the influx of rainwater carrying sediment, the quiet waters of the Nu River in winter reveal a rare blue color, like a gemstone. Not far into Nujiang Prefecture, you will reach the capital, Lushui City. The county town is built along the Nujiang Gorge, with a narrow and long structure. The local economy is not highly developed, and the roads in the town are narrow with compact houses due to the terrain. Less than an hour's drive from Lushui City, you can reach Dengeng Bathhouse. Dengeng Bathhouse is a free natural hot spring located by the Nu River. During the flood season, the rising waters of the Nu River submerge it, while in the dry season, it emerges. Many local Nu and Lisu people enjoy soaking in the hot spring and are very enthusiastic about introducing the area to visitors. The hot spring is highly recommended. Near the hot spring, you can also experience the Nu River zip line, a paid activity developed by local villagers. The zip line is a traditional way for locals to cross the river before bridges were built. A round trip costs 50 yuan and is quite thrilling. Heading upstream along G219, you can stay in Laomudeng Village. It is recommended to stay in a high-altitude guesthouse to enjoy views of the Nujiang Gorge, Crown Mountain, and even the perennial snow on Gaoligong Mountain. The local people are simple and honest, and prices are not high. The guesthouse owner where we stayed was a Nu girl who was very hospitable and cooked delicious traditional local food. Further up from Laomudeng Village is the former capital of Nujiang Prefecture, the lost town of Zhiziluo. Zhiziluo was once a major transportation hub connecting Nujiang Prefecture with the outside world, with frequent trade and gradual development. However, due to geological factors, all residents moved to Lushui City, leaving behind an empty town that still retains the appearance of the last century. Continuing south, you will pass Shiyueliang. Shiyueliang is a rock formation with a large circular hole in the middle, formed by erosion. Later, the mountain body uplifted, pushing it to the top of the mountain, resembling a full moon. You can view it from a viewing platform beside G219, and you should also be able to climb up if you enter the scenic area. The innermost part of Nujiang Prefecture is the famous Bingzhongluo Township. Overlooking from the viewing platform, it is indeed a place where immortals reside. The houses on the dam are scattered, with snow-capped mountains above and the rushing Nu River below. Occasionally, you can hear the crowing of roosters and barking of dogs, with smoke curling up from the rooftops, presenting a peaceful scene. The first bend of the Nu River is also spectacular, and it is recommended to go to the viewing platform on the mountain top, which all the guesthouse owners know how to reach. Crossing the Nujiang Gorge to the west, you can reach Dulongjiang Township. If you are lucky, you may see tattooed women, but the road conditions are poor, and you need to make a reservation to enter. Precautions: 1. Driving in the valley, be cautious of falling rocks on cliffside roads. 2. There are many blind turns, so slow down and drive carefully. 3. Adjust your clothing in a timely manner. 4. Respect religious beliefs. French missionaries preached in Nujiang Prefecture in the last century, and there are churches and a certain number of Christians in the area (such as in Laomudeng). After passing Bingzhongluo, you will soon enter the Tibetan area, where Tibetan Buddhism also appears as you go further in.

Additionally, the camp's truffle buffet restaurant is highly recommended, where you can taste unforgettable black truffle delicacies!
