Elected European Capital of Culture in 2003, some facilities are still in place and give the city a certain originality. 1. The Schlossberg Nothing better to start your visit to Graz than to observe it from above! Direction the Schlossberg, a hill culminating at 123 meters and overlooking the city where you can enjoy a superb panorama. To get there from Graz city center, you have the following options: On foot from Schlossbergplatz square, allow about 30 minutes to climb the 260 steps By elevator, which will take you inside the hill By funicular, starting from the Place de l’Empereur François-Joseph to the summit. Schlossberg means “Castle Mountain”, because at the time, there was indeed a castle on the hill. The first day after New Year's Eve, which is also the first day of the new year! Arriving in Graz, we were surprised to find a tram decorated for the occasion! The entire tram was sparkling with Christmas lights and ribbons, filling the carriage with a festive atmosphere. Stepping on it felt like stepping into a mini Christmas party 🎄. Even more delightful was the friendly welcome from the child conductor at the platform, whose smiles were incredibly heartwarming. Once on board, everyone was given a "piggy chocolate" 🍫🐷, a must-have for New Year's Eve in Austria, symbolizing good luck in the new year! The tram was bathed in warm yellow light. My friends and I chatted and took photos, our entire first day of the new year enveloped in warmth and childlike fun.
