The moss growing on the hundreds of stone steps and the guardian statues gave the place a wonderful, historic feel. 【Tsukechi Gorge Fudo Waterfall】(Photos 9-11) 📍 6-39 Tsukechi-cho, Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture Selected as one of Gifu Prefecture's 50 Best Waters and one of Japan's 100 Best Forests for Forest Bathing, Fudo Waterfall reveals its crystal-clear water as you walk along the forest path! I felt like all my negative thoughts were washed away along with the falling water. You can soak in the negative ions while forest bathing, and the sounds of the earth and water provide natural healing ♪ In autumn, the leaves turn a vivid vermilion, creating a wonderful contrast 🍁 【Ryujin Waterfall】(Photos 12-15) 📍 1057-4 Kawaue, Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture It is located about a 30-minute drive from Fudo Waterfall. While Fudo Waterfall was amazing, Ryujin Waterfall features a more striking emerald green color, and it's said that the water changes color up to seven times a day, showing shades like cobalt blue and emerald blue. There's also a boardwalk nearby, making it the perfect photo spot! If you ever have the chance to visit Gifu Prefecture, be sure to go and experience the lush, green nature 🌳

#January Destinations 2026 Takasui Ski Resort in Gifu is relatively unknown and less crowded compared to places like Hokkaido, Nagano, Echigo-Yuzawa, etc. The lift tickets are cheap, but transportation isn't very convenient; public transport options are limited. The most convenient way is to take a day bus from Nagoya or drive there. This time, I drove from Gunjo City, which took about 40 minutes. Because it was late December and there was a snow drought across Japan, even with all the artificial snow machines running, only two ski runs were open, so I didn't get to ski much, which was a pity. However, Takasui's restaurant was large and the food was delicious, leaving a deep impression. I hope the snow conditions will be better next time I come.

#MarchGoodPlaces2025 The statue of Kazutoyo Yamauchi and his wife is located on a lawn below the Hachiman Castle in Gujo. Kazutoyo Yamauchi was a military commander during the Azuchi-Momoyama period and the early Edo period of the Japanese Warring States Period. His career flourished after he married a virtuous wife. Chiyo was not only good at needlework but also good at writing. Legend has it that when Yamanouchi Kazutoyo was still a low-ranking samurai, he fell in love with a horse but had no money to buy it. When his wife Chiyo learned about it, she privately pawned her dowry to buy the horse. Later, Yamanouchi Kazutoyo was appreciated by his lord Oda Nobunaga for his meritorious service in battles riding this horse and thus rose to prominence.

#MarchGoodPlaces2025 Gochikuin Temple is located in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture. Below is the famous Anyangji Temple. Gochikuin Temple was founded in 1521 and is an ancient temple of the Caodong sect. It has been passed down to the 22nd generation. In 1881 (Meiji 12), the temple became the fire prevention center of Gujo City. The temple also attracted the cross-sectarian faith of local residents who called it "Akihabara-sama". There are Yotoku-do, Toyokawa-do, Taishi-do, Jizo-do, etc. in the temple. The environment here is quite quiet and there are no other tourists to be seen. Above the temple is the Gujo Happo Castle and below is Anyang-ji Temple. It is very comfortable here and you can slowly appreciate every corner of the building without being disturbed.

This temple was built in 1297 AD and was also known as the "100-room square temple" during its heyday. Anyang Temple is also a temple of the Shinshu Otani sect and has a long history. The mottled historical traces of the building can be seen from the temple's main hall and bell tower. Anyang Temple is also the center of faith in this area and is listed as an important cultural property by the country. Today, I happened to meet a teacher who brought a group of children to the temple for outdoor teaching to let the children understand the history and culture of the temple and the importance of preserving ancient buildings.

Gujo Hachiman Castle was a defensive fortress built by the military commander Endo Morikazu in the late Warring States period. The stone wall under the castle has completely preserved its appearance in the early days of construction.
