Hailar travel guide and discussion

Many people say not to visit Hulunbuir in July and August, mainly because it’s peak season with more crowds and slightly higher prices. But to be honest, July and August are when the grasslands look their best all year—lush green grass, vast fields of rapeseed flowers, and cool, comfortable weather. With good planning, you can completely avoid the hassles. Here’s a local insider’s guide for those planning to go 🌿 🚗 Getting there 1. Plane Direct flights to Hailar Dongshan Airport are the top choice, with plenty of flights from cities like Beijing and Hohhot. After landing, you can rent a car or join a carpool to start the grassland loop, saving the trouble of transfers. 2. Train Long-distance travelers can take the train to Hailar Station, ideal for those who want to enjoy the scenery along the way. Taxis and tour vehicles are available at the station. 3. Local transportation Grassland attractions are far apart and not suitable for public transport. For two or more people, renting a car with a driver-guide familiar with hidden spots is recommended. Solo travelers can join small carpool groups for better value. If driving yourself, check your vehicle in advance. Some grassland roads have no signal, so never drive alone off-road. 🗺 Local insider 5-day off-peak loop itinerary Avoid the midday sun, watch the sunrise early, chase sunsets in the evening, and rest in a yurt at noon to stay cool. Day 1: Arrive in Hailar → visit the Morigele River near Jinzhanghan, check out the “world’s most winding river,” watch the grassland sunset in the evening, stay in a grassland yurt Day 2: Explore a remote, less crowded pasture → climb for views at the Erguna wetland, overnight in Erguna city Day 3: Horseback riding experience at Heishantou, visit the Ribbon River for grass sledding → watch the wetland sunset, stay in a unique guesthouse in Heishantou Day 4: Stroll the border town of Shiwei, enjoy views across the river → take photos in rapeseed fields along the way, stay in a Russian-style log cabin in Enhe Day 5: Pass through the birch forest scenic area → return to Hailar to shop for souvenirs and end the trip 📸 Must-visit attractions 1. Morigele River A signature Hulunbuir sight, the winding river flows through green grasslands. In July and August, wildflowers bloom on both banks. Climb to a high point for a full view of the nine bends. Locals prefer to shoot in the morning when the light is soft and crowds are few. 2. Erguna wetland Asia’s largest wetland, lush and green in midsummer with a network of waterways. Evening glow covers the river, creating a vast, healing scene. The wooden boardwalk is flat and easy to walk. 3. Heishantou A perfect spot for horseback riding on the grasslands, with many stables to choose from. You can also try grass sledding and the grassland mini train. There’s an open-air bonfire party at night. 4. Enhe & Shiwei Russian-style border towns with log cabins everywhere, flower-filled streets, and a charming foreign countryside vibe. Great for slow walks and photos. 5. Border highway Ribbon River The scenery along the road is unbeatable, with vast rapeseed fields meeting the grasslands. The grass sledding track overlooks endless green fields. Every snapshot along the way looks like wallpaper. 🍜 Local food recommendations 1. Hand-held meat Grassland-raised beef and lamb have almost no gamey taste. Boiled in clear water to keep the original flavor, dipped in chive flower sauce for a fresh, non-greasy taste. A must-try in Hulunbuir. 2. Roasted lamb leg/ribs Crispy outside, tender inside. Perfect with beer at the bonfire party. Great to share with a group. 3. Salty milk tea Traditional Mongolian salty milk tea served with milk skin and fried rice, perfect for cutting through the richness of meat. If you’re not used to it, ask the shop to adjust the flavor. 4. Buryat steamed buns Thin skin, generous filling of fresh beef and lamb, juicy with every bite. Street shops offer great value. 5. Milk skin and milk tofu Special dairy products, sweet and soft. You can enjoy them fresh or bring them home as souvenirs. 🏨 Accommodation recommendations 1. Grassland yurts Immerse yourself in grassland culture. Some have private bathrooms. At night, step outside to see the starry Milky Way. Book at least a week in advance during peak season. Prices range from 180 to 400 yuan per person. 2. Enhe/Shiwei log cabin guesthouses Cozy Russian-style wooden houses with flower-filled yards, quiet and comfortable, perfect for rest and relaxation. Prices range from 150 to 320 yuan per person. 3. Hotels in Hailar city Well-equipped with supermarkets and restaurants, convenient for shopping at the start and end of your trip. Prices range from 140 to 300 yuan per person. 4. Heishantou scenic guesthouses Many rooms have grassland-view terraces, right next to pastures. Horseback riding is very convenient. Prices range from 160 to 350 yuan per person. ⚠️ Before you go 1. The grassland has a huge temperature difference between day and night! Daytime is comfortable at 25–26 degrees, but mornings and evenings can drop to the teens. Be sure to bring a light jacket and long pants. UV rays are strong, so high-SPF sunscreen, a sun hat, and sunglasses are essential. 2. Mosquitoes are very dense in the pasture area. Bring insect repellent and anti-itch cream. Wear long pants when riding horses. Avoid sandals and short skirts. 3. Always carry your ID when traveling near the border. There are checkpoints along the way, and you cannot pass without ID. 4. Do not trample grassland vegetation or enter private pastures without permission. Do not chase or feed grazing cattle and sheep. Respect local herders’ customs. 5. Prices rise slightly during peak season. Confirm prices for horseback riding and meals in advance to avoid disputes. Don’t trust low-priced tour groups at stations; many have hidden fees. 6. Some deep grassland areas have no cell signal. Download offline maps before you go, travel with companions, and don’t wander off alone. travel guide grassland trip Mongolia summer getaway loop travel tips

#touristtrap Another mistake was thinking I had to visit every famous viewpoint. I spent too much time driving from one stop to another, only to discover that many places shared the same breathtaking feeling. Once I stopped chasing "must-see" locations, I started enjoying the journey itself. I also learned not to buy the first souvenir I saw. Some shops near busy tourist areas charged much higher prices than those in quieter towns. Taking a little time to look around saved money and made my purchases feel more meaningful. For me, Hulunbuir Grassland isn't a tourist trap. The real trap is believing that spending more money or following every viral recommendation will create better memories. The most unforgettable part of my trip came from slowing down, breathing in the fresh air, and letting the endless grassland remind me that not every beautiful experience needs a ticket, a queue, or a perfect Instagram photo.

Hexi Morning Market is just so much fun to explore. · First time trying yogurt zongzi and dashimage. So delicious!!! The jam dashimage, with tons of roasted rice and milk skin mixed in, was super tasty. The yogurt zongzi was also really good—sweet and sour jam paired with little sticky rice dumplings! The mango shaved ice was also delicious. The shop owner was super friendly and even explained that the jam they use comes from Xinjiang, which is why it tastes especially good! · The large steamed buns are also super tasty—bigger than a fist! I discovered a new way to eat them this time: dipping fried dough sticks into tofu pudding!!! You really have to try it; it's incredibly delicious 😋. The filling in the shaomai is so generous—it's almost pure chunks of meat. Dipping them in vinegar and chili oil is amazing. · At the fruit stalls, I wanted to buy mangosteens and asked 3 different stalls, but the prices were all different. I suggest walking around to a few more stalls to ask for prices; you'll find cheaper ones! I also bought honey plums; they're very sour but have a strong plum flavor. If you love sour things, you should give them a try. · There's a Lieba bakery at the entrance of the breakfast street. Since I was already full, I only bought blueberry bread and milk curd bread. I thought the blueberry bread was especially delicious—sweet and sour—and the milk curd bread was also pretty good.

Hailar serves as both the starting and ending point of our eight-day tour of the Hulunbuir Grasslands, as we need to rent and return our car here. We allocated a day at the beginning and end of the trip to explore the city. However, if you're short on time, half a day should suffice to see the main attractions. Attractions: ① Hexi Morning Market: A bustling market where locals shop for daily necessities. It's quite large and even more enjoyable than the Xiaoheyan Morning Market in Shenyang! Here, you'll find many fruits and vegetables not available in Taiwan, including the unique yellow-skinned, red-fleshed watermelon, which I saw for the first time. ② Hulunbuir Ancient City (covered in another travelogue). ③ Genghis Khan Square: A park-like area where residents go for walks and daily activities. ④ Victory Wholesale Market: The first floor sells specialties from the Hulunbuir Plateau, such as beef jerky, dairy products, and mare's milk wine. The prices are reasonable, and most items are slightly cheaper than elsewhere. The second floor sells clothes and shoes, but many shops are vacant, so there's no need to go upstairs. ⑤ One Pagoda and Two Temples (covered in another travelogue).

To avoid the difficulties of traveling during the peak season, you should choose your travel route, travel time, major transportation, hotel, and charter in advance. ⚛️ The itinerary includes lakes, horseback riding, driving a cart, milking cows, picking wild vegetables, barbecues, bonfire parties, etc. It also provides aerial photography throughout the trip. 🎈 ♈ About the Route ♈ 1⃣️ Depart from Hailar -- Jinzhanghan Scenic Area -- Morigele River -- Cross the grassland all the way -- Erguna 2⃣️ Erguna -- Birch Forest Scenic Area -- Enhe -- Qika -- Baka -- Shiwei -- Stay at Linjiang for sunset 3⃣️ Linjiang -- Eagle's Beak -- Taiping -- Moerdaoga National Forest Park -- Longyan Mountain -- Moerdaoga 4⃣️ Moerdaoga -- Genhe -- Xing'an Reindeer Park -- Erguna Asia's First Wetland -- Stay at Heishantou 5⃣️ Heishantou -- 186 Colorful Ribbon River -- Mammoth Park -- Stay at Manzhouli for night view 6⃣️ Manzhouli -- Matryoshka Square -- National Gate -- Hulun Lake -- Hailar. 🌟 This was our route at that time. The most important thing is that there are many hidden places in the route. According to the driver, the company discovers some new places every year, beautiful sceneries that are not found by others and are places where tour groups cannot go. Most of these places have no signal and can only be accessed by off-road vehicles. ⚡ ▶️ Special Attention 🈂️ 1⃣️ Inner Mongolia is an inland area with a relatively dry climate. The average altitude is about 1500 meters, and the sunlight is strong. You need to bring sunscreen products, drink more water, and eat more fruits and vegetables. Because the water in Inner Mongolia contains high alkali content and is hard, to prevent gastrointestinal discomfort, do not drink raw water. You should drink more mineral water and boiled water. 2⃣️ Inner Mongolia is located on a plateau with long sunshine hours and strong light. You need to prepare sun hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. 3⃣️ The temperature difference between day and night on the grassland is large. When traveling to the grassland, you must bring jackets and long pants. At the same time, due to the unpredictable weather, you need to prepare rain gear. 4⃣️ The high-latitude area has a large temperature difference between morning and evening. Even if you travel in summer, please bring long-sleeved jackets to prevent catching a cold. Summer travel cannot be done with just short-sleeved shirts and short skirts. 5⃣️ There are many mosquitoes in summer, so it is recommended to prepare mosquito repellent. The sunlight on the grassland is strong, so it is recommended to prepare sunscreen products.

This is one of the few unpopular tourist destinations during the National Day holiday. The Hailar-Yakeshi-Genhe small loop line has no crowds here, only quiet hills, forests, rivers and grasslands~ Let's see how to play 🌲Coniferous forests on both sides of the county road Daxing'anling has the only cold temperate coniferous forest area in China, where a unique tree species - Xing'an pine is distributed. On both sides of County Road 302, along Yakeshi all the way north, the roadside is full of colorful forests, which is beautiful. 🚂Slow train through the forest County Road 302 goes north along an old railway called Yalin Railway. There is a green train running during the day. The train slowly travels through the forest and stops at several small stations in the forest. It is a good place to experience slow life. 🍃Genhe Town Genhe is a small river flowing through the valley of Daxinganling Mountains. It is called "Gegen Gaole" in Mongolian, which means "clear and transparent river". Genhe City is located on the bank of Genhe River and is a very quiet town. This place has become more well-known because of an article called "Love of Genhe". It is like an isolated paradise located between hills. 🐑Grassland scenery From Genhe back to Hailar, you can choose to take County Road 304. The scenery outside the window will gradually change from forest to endless autumn grassland. Many herdsmen are still grazing. The sunset on the grassland is refreshing. The magnificence of the north can be seen here. TIPS: Transportation: ✈️Fly to Hailar Airport, 🚗Rent a car at the airport to County Road 302. It is recommended to rent a high-chassis vehicle. Some parts of the county road are not easy to walk, but most of the road conditions are still very good. Clothing: 🧥During the National Day holiday, the temperature here is roughly 0-10 degrees, so it is recommended to bring winter clothes. Accommodation: 🏠 Hailar, Yakeshi and Genhe all have relatively good hotels that provide heating, so you don't have to worry about accommodation. #旅行干货# PICNIC地點#2021展览

Have you ever stood somewhere so impossibly vast that your brain just… short-circuits? That was me, last August, on a river bank in Inner Mongolia where the water snaked through grassland like a silver ribbon someone had flung across the earth without looking. Here's the deal. Moerigele River — Mongolian for "the river that bends and bends and never stops bending" — stretches 319 kilometers but packs over 1,000 curves into that distance. If you straightened it out, you'd get roughly 1,500 kilometers of water. Lao She, the legendary Chinese writer, called it "the most winding river under heaven," and honestly? He wasn't exaggerating. Getting there: Fly or train into Hailar, then hop a shuttle bus (about 10:10 arrival). Summer hours run 8 AM to 6:30 PM; winter shifts to 9 AM–5 PM. Entry is free — yes, free — though the round-trip sightseeing bus costs 40 yuan. The scenic area spans 51.42 square kilometers and earned its 5A national rating in February 2024. What I actually did: I wandered three observation platforms — skip the first two, go straight to the third. The "Ajinai" platform, shaped like a horsehead fiddle, gives you the sweepiest view. At 9:30 AM, I caught the sea eagle police flag-raising ceremony — unexpected and oddly moving. Then I ate lamb skewers and mutton soup from riverside stalls, rode a horse until my thighs screamed, and watched a kid circle the same pony six times refusing to dismount. Relatable. The story that broke me: At a nomadic family's yurt, a grandmother handed me a bowl of fresh milk tea. No menu, no price tag — just warmth. She watched me struggle with chopsticks over hand-grabbed mutton, laughed without sound, and poured me another cup. I asked her through gestures if she ever gets tired of tourists. She shrugged and pointed at the river: "It bends, but it never leaves." I still don't know what that means, and I think about it weekly. Pro tips: Wear comfortable shoes — you'll walk trails. Visit August for that golden grass-meets-autumn light. Bring layers; this is high-altitude steppe, averaging -2.5°C annually. And for the love of everything, don't skip the whitewashed cairns — those are Obaos, sacred prayer heaps, not yurts. I made that mistake. Embarrassing. Educational. Here's my question for you: If you could spend one unplugged day anywhere on Earth — no phone, no itinerary — would you pick a place this empty? Or does "empty" scare you? Drop your answer below. I'm genuinely curious whether solitude is your thing or your nightmare. #travelersvoice #chinatravelcircle

Let me be honest: I didn't know Hulunbuir existed until six months ago. Now it's my phone wallpaper, my group chat's inside joke, and the place I'm probably moving to in a delusion. Hulunbuir Grassland — often called "the world's most beautiful grassland" — sprawls across roughly 100,000 square kilometers in northeastern Inner Mongolia. That's bigger than Portugal. Imagine standing in a sea of green so vast your eyes literally refuse to find an edge. Your brain says "this is fake" while your lungs fill with air so clean it almost hurts. The basics: Fly into Hailar or Manzhouli. June through August is peak season — wildflowers, warm days, cool nights. Budget about 500–800 yuan daily for a solid mix of accommodation, meals, and transport. The grassland entrance fee hovers around 30–60 yuan depending on the specific scenic zone. Rent a car or hire a local driver — public transport out here is basically a myth. What actually matters: Forget ticking off checkboxes. Rent a horse, ride until you find a spot where the only sound is wind and grazing sheep. Visit the Morigele River winding through the grass like it can't make up its mind. Watch the sunset from a hillside at 8 PM — yes, 8 PM, because this is far north and summer light refuses to quit. Eat khorkhog (stone-cooked mutton) from a Mongolian family's yurt. The meat falls apart before you even ask. The story I can't shut up about: On day three, I got hopelessly lost driving alone near the Russian border. GPS died. Phone at 4%. I pulled over, panicked slightly, and a herder on a motorcycle appeared out of absolutely nowhere. He didn't speak a word of English or Mandarin — just Mongolian. He gestured for me to follow, drove me 40 minutes to a small settlement, fed me hand-pulled noodles and yogurt, and pointed me back toward Hailar with a grin. I tried to pay him. He shook his head, touched his chest, and rode off. I sat in my car crying into noodles like a ridiculous person. Honest tip: Bring a physical map. Bring sunscreen you'd use on a vampire. And bring the emotional capacity to feel very small — in the best possible way. Now tell me this: Have you ever been somewhere so remote that a stranger's kindness completely rewired your brain? Or am I just dramatic? I genuinely want to hear your "lost and found" story — drop it below. #travelersvoice #chinatravelcircle

I went to the Greater Khingan Mountains expecting "nature." What I got was an existential crisis wrapped in pine needles — and I mean that as the highest compliment. Stretching 1,200 kilometers across Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia, the Greater Khingan is China's largest and most underrated mountain range. Most tourists skip it entirely. That's their loss. This isn't a theme park with gift shops. This is raw, ancient, borderline-spiritual wilderness where the temperature drops to minus 40 in winter and the trees have been standing longer than most civilizations. Getting there: Fly into Mohe (China's northernmost city) or Hailar, then drive. Summer (June-August) is sweet — 20°C, endless daylight, mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds. Autumn (September) is insane — gold, red, orange forests that make New England look like a parking lot. Winter? Only if you're genuinely unhinged. I respect it. What actually blew my mind: Bailongyuan White Birch Forest — pure white trunks stretching to the sky like something out of a Miyazaki film. Then there's the Longjiang First Bend, where the river curls around a mountain and you just stand there thinking "I'm too small for this." Budget roughly 400–700 yuan/day including a guesthouse and local meals. Entry fees vary by scenic area, typically 50–150 yuan. The story that still haunts me: Driving alone at dusk near Genhe, I pulled over because a family of reindeer was crossing the road — actual reindeer, the Ewenki herding tribe's livelihood. An Ewenki woman in traditional robes waved me down, invited me into her tent, and handed me a bowl of reindeer milk tea. It tasted like warm cream mixed with something earthy I can't describe. She showed me photos of her grandchildren on a cracked smartphone. We smiled at each other for ten minutes. Then I drove off into the dark forest with zero cell signal, headlights on, reindeer milk still warm in my stomach, and honestly? I felt more human than I had in months. Real talk: Bring mosquito repellent that could strip paint. Bring cash — ATMs are rare. And bring patience, because the best moments here aren't planned. Question for you: Have you ever stumbled into a moment so unexpectedly beautiful that you literally forgot to take a photo — and then regretted it forever? What happened? I want to hear the version you wish you'd captured. #travelersvoice #chinatravelcircle

Let me be blunt: if you think Hulunbuir is just grassland, you're missing half the magic. Moerdaoga National Forest Park — China's largest forest park at 148,324 hectares with 94.97% forest coverage — is where the Greater Khingan Mountains throw their most dramatic party. They call it "South has Xishuangbanna, North has Moerdaoga," and honestly? The boast holds up. The logistics: Fly into Hailar, then drive roughly 2-3 hours north to Moerdaoga town. The park itself is massive — over 100 kilometers of internal roads with zero shuttle service. You either self-drive or charter a car (around 600 yuan/day). Small train ticket runs about 100 yuan and includes park entry; standalone park admission is 130 yuan. The train ride is 100 minutes of pure forest therapy — four stops, each offering a different slice of ancient larch and birch cathedral. Book early; tickets stop selling at 17:30. What wrecked me emotionally: At Red Bean Slope , I was photographing towering larch trunks when a tiny chipmunk waddled up, grabbed a sunflower seed from my hand, and just... sat there eating. No fear. No manners. Just vibes. Then at Yimu Jiuling ("Nine Ridges at One Glance"), the panoramic viewpoint hit me like a punch — endless mountains layered like geological pancakes, autumn gold bleeding into deep green. I stood there for twenty minutes saying nothing, which for me is basically a spiritual experience. The real story: On the forest train, I sat next to an elderly Ewenki man. He didn't speak Mandarin. I didn't speak Mongolian. We shared a thermos of milk tea he'd brought, pointed at passing deer through the window together, and laughed at the same squirrel stealing someone's snack three rows ahead. When the train stopped, he patted my shoulder, said something I couldn't understand, and disappeared into the birch trees. I still think about that man. I think he was telling me to slow down. Pro tips: September-October is peak — fiery autumn colors, 15-25°C days, but nights drop to 5°C. Pack layers. Bring offline maps; cell signal vanishes. And visit Bailu Island for river rafting if you want to end the trip soaked but smiling. Here's what I genuinely want to know: Have you ever connected with a stranger so completely that language didn't matter — and then never saw them again? What's that moment? I'm convinced the best travel stories aren't about places. They're about people you can't find on Google Maps. #travelersvoice #chinatravelcircle

Autumn Scenery Trip to the Greater Khingan Mountains #HulunbuirGrassland After enjoying a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we set off on the G332 to Ergun Wetland Park, Asia's first wetland. Afterwards, we traveled to Yitulihe to catch train 4181 to Genhe. Train 4181 is a green train from Hailar to Mangui, with a romantic nickname – "The Journey to Mangui: The Northern Train." It only runs once a day and is a must-take train for autumn scenery viewing in the Greater Khingan Mountains. However, it's very slow, so I only rode the short one-hour stretch from Yitulihe to Genhe to savor the experience. The G332 departs from Ergun along the old national highway, passing right next to Genhe, making for excellent photo opportunities with the autumn scenery. Genhe - Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe - Mohe

Who gets it?! I finally got to try lamb straight from their own ranch in Hailar🔥 Their signature dish—three-year-old lamb! This isn't your average lamb! You have to boil it for a full 18 minutes. The best part is that the longer it cooks, the more tender it becomes. It doesn't get tough even after a long boil, and the flavor is incredibly rich with a hint of milky aroma from the grasslands! And you have to try the "Grassland Trio" that every table orders! Lamb heart, lamb tripe, and hand-shredded lamb stomach. Here's the kicker! The lamb heart is truly precious—it takes six whole lambs just to make this one small plate! The texture is crispy, bouncy, and substantial, with the savory flavor bursting in your mouth. It's a specialty you won't find just anywhere! The lamb tripe is crisp, and the hand-shredded stomach is thick and chewy—you get all three in one go! Even in a plain water broth, you can taste the natural sweetness of the grassland lamb. There's almost no gamey flavor at all. Dip it in chive flower sauce and you'll be in heaven! If you love lamb, you have to grab your foodie friends and rush over for this feast!

I just completed the grand loop of Hulunbuir in mid-September, covering both the northern route along the Russian border and the southern route from Hailar to Arxan. It was like stepping into a golden autumn fairytale. 🍂 Flying from Hong Kong to Hailar and chartering a car for 8 days—including all accommodation and tickets—cost less than $10,000. The trip was incredibly comfortable, with the longest drive being just 4 hours. Since there were very few spots requiring steep climbs or stairs, the pace was relaxed and perfect for traveling with parents. It’s even better for kids; with activities like horseback riding, grass sledding, and feeding deer or sheep, there’s something new to do every day. They won't want to leave! 🐎🐑 It seems 2026 is a bit warmer, as the foliage hadn't fully turned gold by September 20th. However, we still truly experienced all four seasons in one trip—there was even frost in the late nights and early mornings! ❄️ Our driver mentioned that the charm of Hulunbuir lies in its variety. Beyond the vast grasslands, there are wetlands, forests, lakes, and mountains, along with charming Russian-style towns and traditional yurt areas. The scenery changes every day, so it never gets boring. 🌲🏞️ The 8-day itinerary flew by in a heartbeat. I hope to return at the end of next June to experience the grasslands at their most vibrant green! 🌱 Great Grassland Inner Mongolia National Forest Park

For Hulunbuir, the best choice is the northern loop starting and ending in Hailar, which combines grasslands, wetlands, border rivers, forests, and Russian-style border charm in one trip. Attractions are far apart and not suitable for public transport. Prioritize chartered cars, self-driving, or small, pure-play tour groups. I. Best time to travel 1. June (best for avoiding crowds): The grasslands are lush green with wildflowers everywhere, fewer tourists, lower hotel rates, and comfortable temperatures (15–28°C). 2. July–August (peak beauty): Herds of cattle and sheep, the grasslands are at their greenest. However, prices rise during peak season, rooms are hard to book, and there is a huge temperature difference between day and night. 3. Early September (autumn colors): Golden grasslands + red leaves in the Greater Khingan Mountains, fewer people, beautiful scenery, suitable for photography. 4. Winter (December–February): Ice and snow-covered plains, suitable for snow activities, not suitable for general grassland sightseeing. II. Transportation (must-read) ✅ Arrival city: Hailar (Dongshan Airport/Hailar Railway Station), the starting point of the loop, with the most flights and train tickets. 1. Chartered car (most recommended, first choice for beginners) Official fleets + local driver-guides, stop and play as you like, can visit niche wild spots. 4-person cars offer the best value, averaging 500–700 yuan per day in peak season, with the itinerary written into the contract. 2. Self-driving Suitable for experienced drivers traveling in groups. There is no signal for hundreds of kilometers, so be sure to travel with two cars and bring walkie-talkies. Car rental + fuel costs are not low, and it is easy to run out of accommodation options in peak season. 3. Carpooling/small, pure-play tour groups Suitable for students, 4–6 person small groups, no shopping, high value. ❌ Not recommended: Large bus tour groups. Too much time spent traveling, too much shopping, and a poor experience. III. Two classic loops (northern line highlights, excluding the southern Arxan line) Option A: 5-day, 4-night streamlined loop (first choice for first-timers, full coverage of grasslands + border) D1 Hailar → Morigele River (the world's first winding river, the third viewing platform is the best) → Ergun Wetland (Asia's No. 1 wetland), stay in Ergun city hotel D2 Ergun → Birch Forest Scenic Area → Enhe Russian Ethnic Township (log cabins, experience making Lieba bread and painting Matryoshka dolls), stay in Enhe log cabin D3 Enhe → Shiwei Port → Border Defense Line (Qika/Jiuka, the most beautiful border road) → Heishantou, go horseback riding to watch the grassland sunset, stay in a yurt D4 Heishantou → 186 Ribbon River (grass sliding) → Hulun Lake → Manzhouli, explore the night view, stay in a Russian-style hotel in Manzhouli D5 Manzhouli National Gate → Barhu Mongol Tribe → Return to Hailar, trip ends Option B: 6-day, 5-night in-depth panoramic tour (includes Greater Khingan Mountains forest, recommended for families/photography) D1 Rest in Hailar, visit Hulunbuir Museum, eat Mongolian food D2 Hailar → Morigele River → Ergun Wetland, stay in Ergun D3 Ergun → Genhe Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe (feed reindeer) → Moerdaoga Forest Park, stay in Moerdaoga Town D4 Moerdaoga → Taiping Village → Eagle Mouth → Enhe, stay in log cabin D5 Enhe → Border Defense Line → Heishantou, horseback riding + bonfire, stay in a yurt D6 Heishantou → 186 Ribbon River → Manzhouli → Hulun Lake → Return to Hailar IV. Must-visit attractions (avoidance list) ✅ Must-visit highlights 1. Morigele River: The winding river described by Lao She. The light is best in the early morning, and the wild scenery is more photogenic than the paid viewing platforms. 2. Ergun Wetland: Asia's No. 1 wetland. The sunset in the evening is stunning, and the admission ticket is cheap. 3. Enhe/Shiwei: Russian ethnic towns with log cabins. You can see Russian villages across the Ergun River. 4. Border Defense Line (Qika, Jiuka): China's most beautiful border road. The route features border rivers + grasslands, and you can stop to take photos at any time along the way. 5. Heishantou: Horseback riding through the grasslands, watching the sunset from the mountaintop, bonfires at night, and stargazing. The ultimate grassland experience. 6. Manzhouli: National Gate Scenic Area, Matryoshka Square, city-wide Russian-style night views, a fairytale border town. 7. Hulun Lake: The largest lake in Inner Mongolia. The lake and sky merge into one; enjoy a fish feast. ❌ Avoid/be cautious · Overpriced commercial horse riding stables, roadside paid attractions, and low-cost tour shopping ranches; · Matryoshka Hotel prices are inflated during peak season; only recommended during the off-season; · Short-distance sightseeing trains inside scenic areas offer very poor value. V. Accommodation recommendations (by area) 1. Hailar city (first night upon arrival): Stay near the railway station for convenient travel. 2. Enhe Russian Ethnic Township (experience log cabins) Ergun Enhe Ivan Manor: Russian-style log cabins, friendly owner, includes farm-style breakfast, high value. 3. Heishantou (yurt experience) · Heishantou Yurt Linda Manor: Includes private bathroom + air conditioning, can participate in bonfire parties, feed lambs, and has excellent views of the starry sky. · Heishantou Town Bushe Yunqi Homestay: Newly built smart yurts, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the grasslands, family-friendly, includes a complimentary horseback riding experience. 4. Manzhouli (Russian style) Manzhouli Hotel: A long-established, high-end Russian-style hotel located in the city center. The night view district is right outside, so there's no need to stay at the overpriced Matryoshka Hotel. VI. Must-try food (Hailar is the top choice) 1. Hand-grabbed meat + roasted lamb chops: Grassland lamb has almost no gamey taste; dip in chive flower sauce. ✅ Hailar Riverside Hand-grabbed Meat Heritage Restaurant: A three-generation old shop with a solid reputation for hand-grabbed meat and freshly roasted lamb chops; locals go there often. 2. Iron pot stew with pancakes: Pork rib pot, goose pot, very large portions. ✅ Zaozuo Small Pot Stew with Pancakes: Highly rated iron pot stew, high value, free snacks and porridge. 3. Grassland barbecue: Wasabi roasted lamb chops, refreshing and fragrant. ✅ Shanhuizhi Fresh Sunflower BBQ: Grassland-style charcoal barbecue, fresh ingredients, staff grills for you. Other must-tries: Buryat lamb buns, salty milk tea, milk skin, milk tofu, lamb offal soup. VII. Outfits & essentials (top priority) The temperature difference between day and night in the grasslands is 15°C+, "experience four seasons in one day": 1. Clothing: Short sleeves + long-sleeved thin jacket + thin windbreaker/thin down jacket; long pants, do not wear shorts. 2. Sun protection: High-SPF sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, magic headscarf; UV rays are extremely strong. 3. Others: Mosquito repellent, moisturizing skincare products, power bank (no signal at the border), stomach medicine, thin sleeping bag (it gets very cold in yurts at night). VIII. Avoidance tips 1. Horseback riding: Negotiate the full price in advance, confirm the duration, and avoid price hikes midway; prioritize official horse riding stables in Heishantou. 2. Grassland crossing: Do not drive into private grasslands without permission, as you may be charged; follow local drivers on official routes. 3. Dining: Do not eat at food stalls at the entrance of scenic areas; try to go to local restaurants in cities and towns to avoid overpriced beef and lamb. 4. Accommodation: During peak season (July–August), be sure to book 15 days in advance; yurt availability is very tight. 5. Border: Do not approach wire fences in the Kaxian and Shiwei areas, drone photography is prohibited, and follow border defense regulations. IX. Budget reference (2 people, 5-day northern line) · Chartered car: 1,200–1,600 yuan · Accommodation: 4 nights approx. 1,200–2,000 yuan (yurt prices rise in peak season) · Dining + admission tickets: 1,500 yuan · Total: Total cost for two people is approx. 4,000–5,500 yuan, excluding round-trip transportation.

I'd been really looking forward to it because online recommendations said Lubuli in Manzhouli/Hailar was delicious. I thought I had to try it, but guess what happened? On the last stop of our grassland trip, all three of us ended up sick at this restaurant 👎🏽. We were vomiting and having diarrhea, and we all ended up with gastroenteritis. It's not like I've never had Russian food before, but this place was truly oily, greasy, and salty. When it was served, it didn't smell appetizing; it made me want to 🤮. The only distinctive thing was that the Russian servers here were very warm, so it was like spending a few hundred yuan just to experience Russian culture—a total loss.

My baby's first birthday party was a huge success! 🥳 This time, choosing Hulun Banquet in Hailar was such a great decision. 👇 🏮 Environment: The decor is absolutely stunning! 💫 The overall style is high-end and elegant. The private rooms are exquisite down to every detail, with bookshelf decor and warm lighting that complement each other perfectly. The atmosphere for evening photos is just incredible 📸—it feels like hosting a banquet in a library. Even the elders said it was a very impressive venue! 💁‍♀️ Service: From the moment we arrived until the end, the staff were so enthusiastic that I almost wondered if they knew me, haha! 😆 They provided smiling service throughout and were always ready to help. They even had our little guest of honor giggling. 🍽️ Food: The food quality is on point! No bad surprises here. Every dish was beautifully plated and tasted great. All the essential main courses for a family banquet were included, and even my picky relatives kept praising the food! 👍 🎊 Heartwarming bonus: The biggest surprise was the free decoration! Free! The money we saved can go toward buying more new clothes for the baby. This was a total win! 💯 📝 Summary: Great value, warm service, and a stylish environment. If you're planning a first birthday party in Hailar, Hulun Banquet is definitely worth checking out! 🐛

Take my advice! Seriously, don't come to Hulunbuir in September–October! I just got back from a 4-day trip, and my eyes are still glued to the golden autumn scenery. I can't stop thinking about the grasslands and forests; I just can't get my mind off it… It sounds like I'm discouraging you, but this is actually a hidden gem for short trips—the summer crowds are gone, prices have dropped, the grasslands are covered in gold, the birch forests are turning yellow, and every snapshot looks like an oil painting. It's so comfortable I didn't want to come back to work 😮‍💨 📌 Basic info · Location: Located in the northeast of Inner Mongolia. The main hub is Hailar District, which is directly accessible by plane and high-speed train. It's about a 3-hour drive from Qiqihar, making it perfect for short holiday trips. It's great for couples, photography enthusiasts, and family trips · Local climate: In September–October, daytime temperatures are 15–20°C, crisp and cool without any humidity. However, the temperature difference between day and night is huge, dropping near 0°C at night, so dress in layers. The UV rays on the grassland are stronger than you'd think, so wear sunscreen even on cloudy days. Remember to bring a windbreaker, hat, and scarf 🗓️ 4-day lazy autumn sightseeing route (includes 5 must-visit highlights) Day 1 Hailar relaxation: Land in Hailar and explore the city. Head straight to an old-school restaurant for hand-grabbed mutton and warm up with some salty milk tea. Take it slow to adjust to the northern climate—it's super comfortable without rushing Day 2 Grassland and wetland combo: Climb up to overlook the Morigele River, the "No. 1 winding river under heaven." The golden grassland paired with the winding river is incredibly photogenic → In the afternoon, visit the Ergun Wetland to see the layers of red, orange, and yellow trees. It's so healing to just let the wind blow while you zone out Day 3 Romantic forest and sunset route: Stroll through the birch forest, step on golden fallen leaves, and meet reindeer for some forest-style photos → Visit the Enhe Russian-style log cabin town and try some large sourdough bread → In the evening, go horseback riding in Heishantou to chase the sunset. The sunset light hitting the grassland creates an incredible atmosphere Day 4 Border charm finale: Explore the exotic streets of Manzhouli and check out the Matryoshka buildings → Feel the breeze at Hulun Lake, enjoy a pot stew, and then head back. The pace is just right ✨ 5 must-visit classics: ① Morigele River: The winding river paired with golden grasslands—the view from above is amazing ② Ergun Wetland: Asia's No. 1 wetland; the autumn scenery with layers of colored trees looks like an oil painting ③ Birch Forest: Golden birch forest + cute reindeer; the ultimate spot for forest-style photos ④ Heishantou Horse Farm: Horseback riding to chase the sunset; maximum grassland romance ⑤ Manzhouli Matryoshka Square: Full of exotic charm; super photogenic 🍖 Local's secret food list ✅ Hearty meals: Head to old-school restaurants in downtown Hailar for hand-grabbed mutton; the meat is so tender it falls off the bone and isn't gamey at all. The freshly roasted lamb chops are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside—pair them with garlic slices for an incredibly delicious bite ✅ Specialty snacks: Buryat buns have thin skins and generous fillings that burst with juice in every bite. Milk skin is rich and creamy—pair it with roasted rice milk tea for a flavor that gets better with every chew. Mongolian pastries are crispy and sweet ✅ Refreshing treats: Handmade iced yogurt is sweet, tart, and thick—perfect for cutting through grease. Milk tofu rice cakes are chewy and milky; they aren't too cold for autumn, making them a super comfortable snack when you're tired from walking ⚠️ Tested tips to avoid pitfalls 🚗 Transportation: Attractions are scattered, so self-driving isn't recommended. Choosing a legitimate chartered car or carpooling is more worry-free. Don't take unlicensed taxis at the entrance of scenic spots; they overcharge and take long routes. Download offline maps in advance, as some sections in the forest area have no signal 💸 Spending: Food around scenic spots is expensive and mediocre. Go to old-school restaurants in downtown Hailar for Mongolian food. Book horseback riding online in advance; it's nearly half the price of buying on-site ☀️ Sun protection and travel: The UV rays on the grassland are extremely strong, so wear SPF50+ sunscreen even on cloudy days. The temperature difference between day and night is large, so a windbreaker and fleece are must-haves; it gets windy and cold in the morning and evening. Smoking outdoors is strictly prohibited during the forest fire prevention season 🏨 Accommodation: Don't blindly book trendy yurts; many lack private bathrooms and are drafty and cold. Prioritize hotels in downtown Hailar or Ergun for convenient transportation and more food options. If you stay in a yurt, make sure to choose one with heating To be honest, saying "I don't recommend coming" is just because I'm afraid Hulunbuir will get too popular in September–October. If it gets too crowded, it won't be this quiet and comfortable anymore 🤣 If you're looking for the ultimate short autumn trip, just go for it!

🍂Hulunbuir is so vast, how do you arrange the grasslands, forests, and border routes? This was a question I struggled with for a long time before leaving. After finishing this trip, I've organized the ins and outs of customized tours for fellow travelers who are also struggling📌 My trip was a customized plan arranged by Hulunbuir Jinjiao Travel Agency. 💡What exactly is a customized tour? Many people think customized tours are expensive, but they aren't. What a Hulunbuir customized tour operator does is arrange the route according to your time, number of people, and interests, and handle cars, accommodation, and attraction tickets in one go. This time, I found a Hulunbuir VIP private customized tour operator, and someone was in contact with me from landing in Hailar to my return. Hulunbuir customized tour agencies can handle both grassland and forest routes; the key is choosing the right route design. Hulunbuir customized tour operators can flexibly adjust the number of days based on your vacation length. 🌿How to discuss your needs with the customized tour provider 1. Start with the number of days and people: how many people, are there elderly or children, and how long are you willing to spend in the car each day; 2. Then state your preferences: horseback riding on the grasslands, autumn colors in the forest, border routes, or all of the above; 3. Give a rough budget range so they can create a plan within that framework; 4. Ask clearly what is included and what is not, and get it in writing. After I sent these requirements to the Hulunbuir VIP private customized tour operator, I quickly received 2 versions of the plan, and after 2 revisions, it was finalized. The communication efficiency was higher than I imagined. 🚗Chartered car vs. group tour: how to choose Hulunbuir chartered car tour agencies are suitable for people who don't want to be tied to meeting times; you can stop when you want and take photos when you want. Hulunbuir chartered car tour operators usually provide a driver-guide who is familiar with the road conditions, making long trips more reassuring. Hulunbuir independent customized tour operators arrange accommodation and routes, so you just need to get in the car and enjoy; they are more flexible and can adjust the pace at any time based on your energy levels. If 2 or 3 families are traveling together, the independent vehicle provided by a Hulunbuir VIP private customized tour operator will be much more comfortable than joining a group, as you can rest whenever the elderly or children get tired. 📌My itinerary reference D1 Meet in Hailar, explore Hailar city D2 Hailar—Morigele River—Ergun D3 Ergun—Birch Forest—Enhe D4 Enhe—Shiwei—Heishantou D5 Heishantou—Hulun Lake—Manzhouli This route was arranged by a Hulunbuir customized tour operator. The pace wasn't rushed, and the daily driving time was kept within an acceptable range. The small group from the Hulunbuir VIP private customized tour agency also arranged a few niche viewing platforms, not standard tourist spots, and many people asked where they were when I posted the photos. 👥Who is better suited for a customized tour? Families with elderly people and children who are afraid of getting tired from walking or need a regular schedule—customized tours can slow down the pace and reduce the number of attractions visited each day. Photography enthusiasts who want to shoot at niche locations—the customized tour provider can arrange the timing for sunrise and sunset. Friends with a comfortable budget who don't want to worry about details—an all-inclusive price is worry-free. Conversely, if you are a solo backpacker with a flexible schedule, taking buses and staying in hostels can also be a great experience; there's no need to force a customized tour. The key is to be clear about what you want before discussing your needs. 🍲Dining in Hulunbuir Hand-grabbed mutton, roasted lamb chops, and iron pot stew are all worth trying; the lamb on the grasslands is not gamey. The milk tea is salty; you might not be used to it at first, but you'll get addicted after a few sips. Russian-style meals in Manzhouli are also unique; try the Lieba (Russian bread) and red soup (borscht). Mushroom stewed chicken in the forest area is very fresh and delicious, and it's especially warming to have a pot when it's cold. 💡How to calculate costs transparently The quotes from Hulunbuir customized tour operators will specify the vehicle type and accommodation level. I asked the Hulunbuir VIP private customized tour operator to list every item clearly so it was obvious what I had to pay for myself. The fees for Hulunbuir chartered car tour agencies are generally calculated by the day; make sure to ask clearly who covers the driver's meals and accommodation to avoid disputes later. 🍂Practical tips 1. There are many long-distance trips in Hulunbuir, so prepare snacks and water in the car; the elderly and children get hungry easily; 2. The temperature difference between morning and evening is large, so bring a thick jacket and a windbreaker; 3. There are many mosquitoes on the grasslands, so bring mosquito repellent and long pants; 4. You need to confirm border crossing arrangements in advance; don't go rashly; 5. The golden autumn period from late September to early October is the peak season; book rooms and vehicles early; 6. Keep a paper copy of your itinerary to refer to when the signal is poor. Overall, the customized coordination with Hulunbuir Jinjiao Travel Agency was very smooth, and the plan was only finalized after I was satisfied with the revisions. I compared them with other agencies before leaving, and Hulunbuir Jinjiao Travel Agency was more thoughtful about the details, even providing me with a packing list. During the trip, the Hulunbuir customized tour operator adjusted the order in a timely manner, so I didn't miss any sights. Talking to friends on the way back, they also felt that finding Hulunbuir Jinjiao Travel Agency was worry-free, as I didn't have to carry the itinerary and rush around by myself. 💡Concluding thoughts Hulunbuir is suitable for slow travel, and the value of a customized tour lies in handing over complex road conditions and bookings to professionals. Hulunbuir independent customized tour agencies can turn your ideas into an executable route; Hulunbuir chartered car tour agencies give you freedom. The Hulunbuir VIP private customized tour operator managed the pace just right; if you choose the right one, this golden autumn trip will be easier than you imagine.

September–October is the golden season, featuring golden grasslands and the colorful forests of the Greater Khingan Mountains. It's less crowded and great for photos. Flying into Hailar is recommended. Hiring a car with a driver is preferred; self-driving is not advised due to long distances and poor signal. 🍂 Seasonal highlights (September–October) ✅ The grasslands turn golden, and the white birch forests of the Greater Khingan Mountains are a stunning, painterly yellow. Fewer tourists and lower hotel rates. ⚠️ Extreme temperature difference between day and night: 15–20°C (59–68°F) during the day and around 0°C (32°F) at night. Dress in layers: quick-dry base layer + fleece + windbreaker. Bring a light down jacket, hat, and gloves. Don't expect green grasslands; the focus is on the golden autumn scenery. 🗓 6-day, 5-night classic loop (Grassland + Forest + Border + Manzhouli) Day 1 | Arrive in Hailar | City introduction · Afternoon: Morigele River (the "No. 1 winding river in the world"). Golden autumn grasslands meet winding rivers—the sunset is breathtaking. · Evening: Explore the ancient city of Hailar and enjoy authentic Mongolian cuisine. Stay in downtown Hailar. Day 2 | Hailar → Ergun Wetland → Enhe Russian Ethnic Township · Morning: "Ergun Wetland," the No. 1 wetland in Asia. Golden autumn reeds and colorful forests overlooking the river. · Afternoon: Enhe Russian Ethnic Township. Explore the traditional log cabins (mu-ke-leng) and experience local Russian-style hospitality. · Stay in Enhe or Ergun. Day 3 | Enhe → White Birch Forest → Reindeer Park → Genhe · Thousands of acres of white birch forest. The golden autumn backlight is perfect for photos. Visit the Reindeer Park to feed the reindeer. · Drive through the Greater Khingan forest area to see the autumn forest scenery. Stay in Genhe. Day 4 | Genhe → Border Defense Road (Cards 7–9) → Heishantou · Drive along the popular border highway with grasslands on one side and the border river on the other. Visit the Taiji diagram at Wulan Mountain. · Go horseback riding across the grasslands in Heishantou and enjoy the sunset in the evening. · ✨ Optional: Stay in a heated yurt and watch the starry sky at night (autumn nights are very cold, so prioritize heated accommodations). Day 5 | Heishantou → 186 Ribbon River → Manzhouli · View the winding river from the 186 Ribbon River observation deck. · Arrive in Manzhouli in the evening to see the dazzling city nightscape. Visit the National Gate and Matryoshka Square. Stay in Manzhouli. Day 6 | Manzhouli → Hulun Lake → Return to Hailar and depart · Visit Hulun Lake (the largest lake in Inner Mongolia) and enjoy the autumn scenery by the lake. Return to Hailar to conclude the trip. Tips: If you are short on time, you can condense this into 4–5 days. If traveling with elderly people or children, try not to rush; daily driving time is generally 3–5 hours. 🍖 Must-eat food + reliable shops (Mongolian, Russian, and Northeast-style iron pot stew) 1. Authentic Mongolian cuisine (Hailar, best for hand-grabbed mutton) Hailar Riverside Hand-grabbed Mutton Heritage Shop (Hailar Hepan Shouba Rou) ✅ Must-order: Boiled hand-grabbed mutton (dipped in chive flower sauce), freshly roasted lamb chops, Buryat buns, and Mongolian milk tea. The lamb has almost no gamey taste. Locals eat here too, so it gets busy during meal times. 📍 Building 2, Block A, Haichen Jiayuan Residential Community, Hailar. 2. Russian-style Western food (Must-visit in Manzhouli) Luboli Restaurant (Manzhouli Main Store) ✅ Must-order: Cheese buns, borscht, Queen's salad, beef in a pot, Russian-style roasted sausages. The atmosphere includes song and dance performances. ⚠️ It gets busy during meal times, so try to arrive early. The Hailar branch is less crowded and usually doesn't require waiting. 3. Hot iron pot stew, perfect for the cold autumn weather Xuedu Iron Pot Stew (Hailar) ✅ Recommended: Mixed fish pot, pork rib pot. The flower rolls (steamed buns) are stuck to the side of the pot. The portions are huge and it's great value. Eating around a big pot in the cold weather is very comforting. ⚠️ Autumn travel pitfalls 1. Transportation: Prioritize legitimate car hire services. Do not self-drive, as signal is poor along the border sections. Avoid ultra-low-price shopping tours. 2. Accommodation: Yurts are very cold at night in autumn; ensure they have heating. If you are sensitive to the cold, prioritize hotels. Book in advance for Heishantou and Enhe. 3. Grasslands: Do not drive into private pastures, as you may be charged a fee. Towns along the way are far apart, so keep snacks and water in the car. 4. Dining: Inner Mongolian portions are huge. For 2 people, 1 meat dish and 1 vegetable dish are enough to avoid waste. Be cautious of low-priced whole roasted lamb on the roadside. 5. Clothing: Don't just look at the daytime temperature! It's very cold when it's windy. A hat, gloves, and a thermos are essential. Sun protection is still necessary (UV rays are strong). ✨ Quick route selection · 6 days: The route above, covering grasslands, forests, the border, and Manzhouli—the top choice for golden autumn. · 4-day condensed version: Hailar → Morigele River → Ergun → Heishantou → Manzhouli → Hailar (skips the Genhe forest area). · With elderly/children: Reduce driving on the border road and spend more time in Heishantou and Manzhouli.

🍂 Depart from Chengdu! A complete 5-day, 4-night guide to chasing autumn in Daxing'anling — miss it and you'll wait another year! Quick overview: fly from Chengdu to see fall in Daxing'anling✈️ — picking the right spots really matters! The colors move southward from the north; September 15–25 is the peak (the multicolored mountains are stunning). During National Day the northern route may have mostly bare trees or even snow❄️, while the southern route around Arxan stays golden — 5 days and 4 nights flying from Chengdu to Hailar costs about CNY 4,000–6,000 per person. Temperatures can be near 0°C in the mornings and evenings🥶, so definitely bring a down jacket! You might even catch the rare combo of golden autumn and first snow in the same scene~ Can you still chase fall during National Day? The real situation 📝 Yes! But you must pick the right places — the autumn window in Daxing'anling is only about 20 days (September 10–early October)🍁. Birch, poplar, larch, and shrubs change at different speeds, and the colors spread from north to south. September 15–25 is the peak: birch stands glow gold, larch turns orange-red, and shrubs blaze purple and red, with saturation turned up to 11🎨! During National Day (October 1–7), the northern line — Genhe and Moerdaoga — may have large-scale leaf drop or even snow; the southern line around Arxan will still be golden, though trees may have lost about 20% of their leaves and the ground will be covered in yellow leaves, creating a chill, high-end vibe of "golden autumn + first snow"💫 Which route to choose? Listen up 👇 · ✅ If you can travel September 20–28: the northern line (Genhe, Moerdaoga, Erguna) is best for the most intense colors · ✅ If you can only go during National Day: focus on the southern line around Arxan, and use the northern line for en-route stops (fallen leaves + first snow can still be breathtaking) Why choose Daxing'anling to chase autumn? 4 irreplaceable reasons ✨ 1️⃣ China’s most beautiful autumn, only about 20 days a year: named one of China's most beautiful autumns by Chinese National Geography🏆. Birch forests turn gold, larch glows orange-red, shrubs blaze purple — layers of multicolored mountains that look like wallpaper without filters! Miss it and wait another year! 2️⃣ See grassland, wetlands, forest, and border scenery in one trip: golden grasslands (Morigele River)🌾, Asia's largest wetland (Erguna Wetland)🏞️, primeval forest (Moerdaoga)🌲, and the China–Russia border town (Shiwei)🏘️ — four completely different landscapes in 4 days! 3️⃣ Feed reindeer, stay in a Russian-style log house, and watch the border river sunset: feed reindeer at the Aoluguya reindeer tribe🦌 (China’s only Evenk reindeer-herding tribe!), stay in Russian-style log cabins in Shiwei, watch the Erguna River at sunset over the border🌅, eat Russian-style large loaves and iron-pot stewed goose — the experience is full-on! 4️⃣ Fewer people than Xinjiang during National Day, and a chance to meet the first snow: though it's peak season, it’s definitely much less crowded than Xinjiang or western Sichuan. You might even see the first snow❄️ — golden autumn and white snow in one frame, atmosphere-level legendary! Real experience sharing 💭 First impression shock: the transition from grassland to forest🌿→🌲. From Hailar you start on golden grassland; after 2 hours you gradually enter birch and larch forests, like walking into a painting! The air smells of pine needles and humus🍃. Sunlight filters through golden leaves, the ground is carpeted in leaves that whisper underfoot, and it’s so quiet you only hear birds and wind — super healing~ Reindeer are much gentler than expected🦌, they will amble over to eat the moss from your hand; sunlight makes their golden fur shine — perfect for photos! Nights in Shiwei are so quiet you can almost hear the stars✨, with no light pollution and a clear Milky Way that feels 10 times more vivid than in the city! You’ll hear the Erguna River flowing — that kind of quiet is unforgettable~ It’s cold, but pleasantly so🧣! About −5°C early morning and late night, and around the teens at midday, so the temperature swings are large. Walking through a golden forest in a down jacket, holding a hot milk tea, you might meet the first snow❄️ — a dusting on golden larch that creates a contrast so beautiful you’ll remember it forever! Who is it for? If you love nature, quiet, photography, or self-driving, go for it with your eyes closed! Not for those who prefer bustling city life, lively nightlife, or can’t stand the cold. 📸 Photo tips · Morigele River: best light around 4–5 PM for golden grassland + winding river · Erguna Wetland: go in the morning for fewer people and the best boardwalk viewpoints · Reindeer tribe: best shots when sunlight filters through the birch forest onto the reindeer · Moerdaoga small train: shoot panoramic views at the curve · Shiwei border river at sunset: 5–6 PM for golden light on the river · Heishantou grassland at sunset: capture rider silhouettes on horseback🐎 How to plan the smoothest 5-day route 🗺️ Day 1: Chengdu ✈️ Hailar → Morigele River golden grassland, stay in Hailar Day 2: Hailar → Erguna Wetland → Aoluguya reindeer tribe → Genhe, stay in Genhe Day 3: Genhe → Moerdaoga National Forest Park → Shiwei, stay in Shiwei Day 4: Shiwei border sunrise → Heishantou grassland sunset → Manzhouli, stay in Manzhouli Day 5: Manzhouli → Hulun Lake → return to Hailar 🚗 Transport: book rental cars early for National Day; SUVs cost about CNY 500–800 per day 🏨 Accommodation: Hailar city center CNY 200–400 per night (may double during National Day) Heads up, everyone ⚠️ If you have more time (7 days), you can add a day at Arxan National Forest Park after Day 4; with only 5 days, stick to the northern highlights. To maximize your chance of seeing the most intense colors, depart September 20–28, or swap Moerdaoga for Arxan🏔️

I was mentally prepared to freeze, see withered grasslands, and find nothing to look at, but after visiting Hulunbuir at the end of October, I was completely proven wrong—there were fewer crowds, beautiful scenery, and great prices. We spent most of the time in the car and didn't have to walk much. It wasn't the "suffering" I imagined at all; in fact, it was so comfortable I didn't want to come back 😭 🏕️ First, the best surprise: it's relaxing and easy on the legs It's so much more visitor-friendly than many other scenic spots! If you hire a car for the whole trip, the drive between attractions is mostly 1–2 hours, so you don't have to endure long, exhausting journeys. The core attractions all have observation decks and gentle wooden boardwalks, so there's no need for strenuous hiking or trekking; it's easy for seniors and children to explore. There are very few tourists in October–November, so no queuing or crowding, and you can find any angle you want for photos. It's nice and warm when the sun is out during the day, ten times more comfortable than exploring the grasslands under the scorching summer sun. 🗺️ 3-day, 2-night minimalist itinerary (1 core spot each for morning, afternoon, and evening) Day 1: Hailar → Heishantou route · Morning: Morigele River Observation Deck | Overlook the winding river, with golden autumn grass stretching to the horizon. It has a different atmosphere than in summer (Pro tip: Shoot with the sun behind you in the morning for brighter river colors) · Afternoon: Erguna Wetland | Stroll along the wooden boardwalks, see the golden birch forests, and the layered, colorful wetlands (Pro tip: It's windier at the wetland than in the city, so be sure to bring a thick jacket) · Evening: Sunset at Heishantou | The grassland sunset paints the sky orange-red. After watching it, stay in a heated yurt (Pro tip: Choose a yurt with a private bathroom for a much better experience) Day 2: Heishantou → Manzhouli route · Morning: Border Highway road trip | The route is full of border grassland scenery, with few cars and flat roads. Every shot is desktop-wallpaper quality (Pro tip: Don't drive off-road onto the grassland at will; local herdsmen may charge a fee) · Afternoon: 186 Ribbon River | Grass sliding + watching the winding border river. It's not crowded, so no queuing. Sliding down with the wind in your ears is amazing (Pro tip: Secure your phone and hat before grass sliding; they can easily fly off) · Evening: Night view at Zhongsu Golden Street | The Russian-style architecture looks like a fairy-tale town when lit up. It's very pleasant to take a walk (Pro tip: You can haggle a bit when buying Russian goods) Day 3: Manzhouli → Return route · Morning: National Gate Scenic Area | Check in at the border landmark and see the history exhibition; it feels very ceremonial (Pro tip: You must bring your ID card; it's required for ticket checking) · Afternoon: Hulun Lake | The lake surface is especially calm in autumn, and the water and sky blend together, which is very healing (Pro tip: It's windy by the lake, so remember to wear a scarf to protect your neck) · Evening: Have a Mongolian meal in downtown Hailar before leaving for a happy ending to the trip 🍖 Must-eat local food list (personally tested, no duds) Hand-grabbed mutton is definitely number one! The water-boiled lamb is so tender it bursts with juice in every bite. Dip it in a little chive flower sauce; there's absolutely no gamey taste, and it gets more fragrant the more you chew. Mongolian milk tea is savory, brewed thick, and served with roasted rice and milk tofu. Drinking a bowl in the cold warms you right up. The roasted lamb chops are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with crispy skin and fragrant meat; sprinkle some cumin on them, and you'll be in heaven. There's also stomach-wrapped meat—lamb tripe wrapped around meat sausage. It's juicy when you bite into it and gets fresher the more you chew. Before I went, I thought Hulunbuir in October–November was a low-season trap, but after going, I realized it's a hidden gem—no summer crowds, just the quiet and golden hues of autumn. You get the grasslands, wetlands, and border scenery without missing anything. The food is good, the accommodation is comfortable, and it's great value for money. If you aren't obsessed with lush green grasslands, I highly recommend visiting off-peak. You'll gain a different kind of peace and healing ✨

I thought the grasslands would be withered, yellow, and windy by autumn, with nothing to do, but my personal experience proved me completely wrong! Every day, I enjoyed the cool autumn breeze while looking at the golden meadows, and the beef and mutton were so fresh I couldn't stop eating. I even extended my trip by half a day before heading back. This is officially the ceiling for short getaways in Inner Mongolia—a perfect cure for urban fatigue and anxiety 🌿 📍 Basic info · Location: Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia. Flying directly to Hailar Dongshan Airport is the most convenient. The 4-day mini-loop averages 2–3 hours of driving per day. It's stress-free for new drivers and perfect for families, best friends, or short-trip travelers looking to fill a long weekend. · Local climate: In July–August, daytime temperatures are 20–28°C, feeling dry and comfortable without sweat—a natural summer retreat. The temperature difference between day and night exceeds 10°C, so bring a light windbreaker for mornings and evenings. The sun on the grasslands is intense with no shade, so a high-SPF sunscreen, sun hat, and sunglasses are must-haves. Don't let your guard down even on cloudy days. 📅 4-day slow-paced loop Day 1 arrival & rest: Land in Hailar and get settled. Spend the afternoon strolling through Genghis Khan Square to feel the rhythm of the small city. In the evening, dive into the 626 Food Street for your first taste of Mongolian flavors. Keep it relaxed and don't rush. Day 2 grassland & wetland route: In the morning, head to the Morigele River to overlook the "Number One Curved Water in the World" winding like a jade belt across the grassland. In the afternoon, explore the Ergun Wetland, walk along the boardwalk, and enjoy the cool breeze. In the evening, stay in Enhe Township and sleep in a traditional log cabin while watching the stars. Roasted lamb chops are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, bursting with juice—you can eat your fill for 80+ per person. · Local snacks: Buryat buns have thin skins and generous fillings, packed with solid, satisfying mutton. Lamb shumai have paper-thin skins and a rich, fresh flavor—a staple for local breakfasts. · Refreshing treats: Grassland yogurt is thick and creamy; sprinkle it with roasted rice and dried fruit for a rich milky flavor. Ice-boiled lamb is refreshing and not greasy, with meat so tender it melts in your mouth—warm, comforting, and very palatable. ⚠️ Tested tips to avoid pitfalls 1. Transportation: Don't trust the low-priced unlicensed taxis on the side of the airport road. A legitimate chartered car costs about 500–600 per day, including fuel and tolls. If driving yourself, stick to paved roads; don't drive over the grasslands, or you'll be fined. Download offline maps in advance, as there's often no signal in the heart of the grasslands. 2. Spending: Beef jerky at tourist attractions is overpriced. Buy souvenirs at large supermarkets in downtown Hailar. Ask about the all-inclusive price for horse riding in advance so you don't get hit with separate charges for helmets or horse-leading fees on the spot. 3. Sun protection & travel: There's no shade on the grasslands, so physical sun protection is more effective than sunscreen; try to wear long sleeves. There are tons of mosquitoes in the meadows in the evening, so carry mosquito repellent and don't wear sandals in the grass. 4. Accommodation: If it's your first time, prioritize staying in downtown Hailar for convenient dining and transportation with good value. Book log cabins and yurts in towns 1–2 months in advance. Don't trust internet-famous filters; look for real reviews instead. To put it simply, coming to Hulunbuir in September–October isn't "suffering"—it's diving headfirst into the romance of the golden grasslands. Come for a short trip to catch the breeze and feast on meat; all your restlessness will be blown away by the grassland wind~

💚 Hulunbuir Grassland road trip guide | An autumn where the wind blows through the grass to reveal cattle and sheep Visiting Hulunbuir in autumn is the perfect choice! The sun is gentle, the grasslands are golden, and the mountain rivers are exceptionally clear under the blue sky and white clouds. Every photo you take looks like a professional desktop wallpaper📸. 📌 Transportation & location Hulunbuir Grassland is located along the S201 in Chen Barag Banner, Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia. The grassland is vast, and the core area is about a 40-minute drive from Hailar. It is open all year round, and the autumn scenery is particularly stunning. 🚗 Road trip route (starting from Hailar) ✔️ Hailar — Chen Barag Banner — Morigele River — Grassland hinterland ✔️ Navigate to "Chen Barag Banner S201". The road conditions are good, and it is accessible by sedan ✔️ We recommend hiring a car with a driver or driving an SUV. The smaller grassland roads offer more surprises, and you can stop anytime to take photos 🥾 Recommended hiking routes ✔️ Morigele River observation deck hike: The full route is about 3–4 km. Hike to a high point to overlook the winding river as it carves an elegant arc through the golden autumn grassland ✔️ Grassland hinterland stroll: The terrain is flat, perfect for a leisurely walk where you can feel the vastness of the world wherever you go 📷 Must-visit spots & best photo angles 1️⃣ Best view of Morigele River: The high point of the cliff. Take overhead shots of the river, which looks like a silver ribbon. The light is softest in the morning or evening 2️⃣ Grassland high point: The grassy slopes on the south side of Chen Barag Banner. Standing at the top, you can capture unobstructed panoramic shots. When the wind blows, you can see waves of grass rolling by 3️⃣ Autumn riverside meadow: The river winds through the meadow with cattle and sheep grazing leisurely in the distance. It is perfect for atmospheric long-distance shots. We recommend using a telephoto lens to compress the frame for better results 🍖 Food & accommodation recommendations 🍜 Must-try food: Hand-grabbed mutton, roasted lamb chops, Mongolian milk tea, milk skin, and wild mushrooms 📍 Recommended experience: Stay in a yurt deep in the grassland, order a roasted lamb leg from the host, and watch the sunset while sipping salty milk tea. It is so satisfying 🏡 Accommodation suggestions: ✔️ Grassland yurt homestays (conditions are relatively simple, but the atmosphere is perfect, and you can see the Milky Way at night) ✔️ Hotels in downtown Hailar (suitable for those who prefer higher-quality accommodation; it is only a 30–40 minute drive back to the city) ✅ Tips 🔹 The temperature difference in autumn is significant. It can be below 10°C in the morning and evening, so be sure to bring a down jacket or a thick windbreaker 🔹 The UV rays on the grassland are strong. Don't forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat 🔹 It is windy and dry in autumn, so pack extra moisturizer and lip balm 🔹 When driving on the grassland, watch out for cattle and sheep. Do not leave the main roads or drive over the grassland 🔹 Take your trash with you and help protect the grassland environment The biggest takeaway from this grassland trip is that the world is vast. Standing on the autumn grassland, I felt so much lighter🌾.

To be honest, before setting off, I thought Hulunbuir was just a grassland that was "incredibly far away and ridiculously expensive." I checked flight prices, and a round-trip direct flight from Beijing to Hailar was 1800 yuan, so I gritted my teeth and booked it. But when I arrived, a large plate of hand-pulled mutton cost 68 yuan, a pot of salty tea was 15 yuan, and a night in an Enhe log cabin cost over 200 yuan, with a pleasant pine scent… After five days and four nights on the northern loop, I spent less than 3500 yuan per person. It wasn't that I spent little; it's that I wasted so much money elsewhere. Standing on the cliff overlooking the winding Morigele River across the golden grassland, I finally understood that all the money I had spent before wasn't buying this kind of thing. This post will clearly outline the route, accommodation, food, and expenses. After reading it, you'll understand why "my consumer values have collapsed" is a compliment 👇 🍂 Why September? Green grasslands are common, but golden grasslands are unique to this place. Many people flock to Hulunbuir for the lush green grass of July and August, but September is the real hidden gem. The autumn colors of the Greater Khingan Mountains unfold gradually from north to south, with the forests a tapestry of verdant green and golden hues, and the grasslands stretching out like a painting. This spectacle lasts from early September to mid-October and has been hailed by *Chinese National Geography* as "China's most beautiful autumn scenery." During hay-cutting season, round bales of hay are scattered across the grasslands, jokingly referred to by netizens as "grassland Swiss rolls"—every snapshot is wallpaper-worthy. With the summer crowds gone, there's no need to scramble for chartered cars or guesthouses, and prices are 20-30% lower than peak season. Most importantly—Hulunbuir in September is neither too hot nor too humid; daytime temperatures hover around 20°C, allowing you to enjoy a whole day of fun on the grasslands in just a light jacket. 🚗 How to get there? Flying to Hailar is the first step, and hiring a car locally is essential. There is no direct high-speed rail to Hulunbuir. The tourist distribution center is in Hailar, so flying to Hailar Dongshan Airport is the best option from across the country. Be careful not to buy tickets for other cities. Direct flights from Beijing take about 2.5 hours, and there are also direct flights from Shanghai and Guangzhou. If direct flights are too expensive during the summer, you can fly to Harbin first and then take a train to Hailar. An overnight sleeper train can save you a night's accommodation cost. Once you arrive, hiring a car or sharing a ride is the choice of 90% of tourists. Grassland attractions are scattered, navigation signals are often interrupted, and road conditions in the heart of the grassland are complex, so public transportation is basically unreliable. Hiring an SUV costs an average of 500-800 yuan per day including fuel and tolls. A small car for 2-6 people costs 150-250 yuan per person per day. Sharing a ride with friends is the most cost-effective, costing approximately 600-800 yuan per person for a 5-day trip. ⚠️ Avoid these pitfalls when chartering a car: Before signing the contract, confirm whether the vehicle is for "commercial" use, whether the insurance is complete, and whether the detailed costs are written in the contract. In the depths of the grasslands, if an accident occurs, insurance for non-commercial vehicles may be denied. 🗺️ 5 Days 4 Nights Golden Loop, No Backtracking Day 1: Hailar → Morigele River → Ergun. Depart directly from Hailar. The Morigele River is described by Lao She as "the most winding river in the world." Be sure to climb to the cliffside viewing platform to overlook the river winding through the golden grasslands; the view is the best and completely free. In the afternoon, visit Ergun National Wetland Park, stroll along the boardwalk to see the Genhe River branching and winding through the wetlands (entrance fee 65 yuan). Stay overnight in Ergun city and enjoy a hot pot meal. Day 2: Ergun → Birch Forest → Enhe. In the morning, we visited the Birch Forest Scenic Area. The tall, straight birch trees and the interplay of light and shadow created a breathtaking forest scene. Around 10 AM, the light was at its softest, perfect for capturing stunning forest-themed photos. In the afternoon, we explored Enhe Russian Ethnic Township, experiencing bread making, tasting blueberry jam, and simply relaxing in front of the log cabins. Enhe's pace was so slow, it felt like time had stopped. Day 3: Enhe → Border Highway → Heishantou. We drove all day on the Sino-Russian border highway, with grasslands on our left and the Ergun River on our right, and Russian villages on the opposite bank. The views were incredibly expansive, making this the most scenic stretch of the entire drive. In the evening, we arrived at Heishantou, where the highlight was horseback riding to watch the sunset. We chose a reputable horse ranch; a small loop cost about 100 yuan per person for about 10 minutes, while a large loop cost about 200 yuan per person for about 17 minutes. Both offered insurance and protective gear, ensuring safety. The moment the sunset painted the entire wetland red was well worth the entire drive. Day 4: Heishantou → 186 Ribbon River → Manzhouli. In the morning, experience the 1000-meter grass skiing at the 186 Ribbon River, enjoying panoramic views of the undulating grassland. Arrive in Manzhouli in the afternoon, where you'll be immersed in its rich Russian atmosphere. In the evening, be sure to visit a high vantage point to see the dazzling night view of Manzhouli, a fairytale-like spectacle of lights. Dinner will be an authentic Russian meal at the Rubli Restaurant, around 100 RMB per person. Their signature dishes include cheese bread, braised beef in a clay pot, and sausage. Reservations are recommended, as there may be a wait if you arrive late. Day 5: Manzhouli → Hulun Lake → Hailar (Return Trip). In the morning, visit Hulun Lake, the largest lake in northern China. Be prepared for the windy conditions by the lake and dress warmly. You can try a whole fish feast featuring local lake produce. In the afternoon, return to Hailar, stopping at the Barga Mongolian Tribe to watch the "Horse Dance" performance along the way. Upon arrival in Hailar, transfer to the airport for your return trip. 🏠 Where to stay? Three experiences to choose from for maximum comfort: · *Hailar City Chain Hotels:** 300-500 RMB/night. Ideal for your first or last stop, convenient for luggage, and reliable facilities. · *Enhe Wooden Lodges:** 200-400 RMB/night. Russian-style log cabins with the scent of pine. Enjoy freshly baked rye bread with blueberry jam in the evening – a truly immersive experience. ⚠️ Soundproofing in log cabins is generally limited; light sleepers should bring earplugs. · *Heishantou Mongolian Yurts:** Definitely choose brick yurts with private bathrooms, 200-400 RMB/night. Avoid old-fashioned yurts without private bathrooms. The temperature difference on the grasslands at night is significant, and mosquitoes are rampant; without a private bathroom, you'll regret it. During peak season, yurts must be booked 15-30 days in advance. 🍖 What to eat? A triple assault of Mongolian, Russian, and Northeastern cuisine! Pot tea with hand-pulled mutton is the soul of Hulunbuir cuisine. The Hailar Nuomintala Milk Tea Shop has been open for thirty years, and locals always go there to treat others. Their "pot tea" is a savory milk tea made with fried rice, milk skin, and dried meat, served with hand-pulled mutton and steamed buns; a meal for two costs 80-100 yuan and is all you can eat. Buryat steamed buns have thin skins and generous fillings, bursting with juicy meat with every bite; roasted lamb chops are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, sprinkled with cumin and chili powder—so fragrant you'll want to stomp your feet. Iron pot stew is most authentic in Ergun; pork ribs stewed with green beans and cornbread costs around 40 yuan per person and you'll be stuffed. A Russian meal is a must. The cheese bread at the Rubli Western Restaurant in Manzhouli is so stretchy it'll make you question reality; the borscht is sweet and sour and appetizing; the kvass is refreshing and helps cut through the richness; a meal costs just over 100 yuan per person and you'll be stuffed. You can eat very well for 80-100 yuan per person per day; choosing old restaurants in residential areas is ten times more reliable than those near tourist attractions. 💰 Budget Reference (5 days 4 nights/person, excluding round-trip transportation) Budget Budget (2000-2500 RMB): Shared ride for 5 days approximately 600 RMB, hostels or budget guesthouses for 4 nights approximately 400 RMB, daily food cost 100 RMB, entrance fees kept under 200 RMB, mainly relying on free grasslands and viewpoints. Comfort Budget (3000-3800 RMB): Chartered SUV (shared cost) approximately 800 RMB, chain hotel in Hailar + wooden cabin in Enhe + Mongolian yurt in Heishantou + Russian-style hotel in Manzhouli approximately 1200 RMB, daily food cost 120 RMB, horseback riding, grass skiing, and Russian meals all included. Round-trip airfare can be booked for around 1800 RMB in the off-season; booking 1-2 months in advance during peak season can save a lot. 📌 Tips (Based on Hard-Won Experience) 1. Wear layered clothing in September. Short sleeves + sun protection during the day, and a fleece jacket or light down jacket in the mornings and evenings – the wind on the grasslands is no joke. 2. Apply sunscreen heavily. The UV radiation on the grasslands is extremely strong; SPF 50+, reapply every two hours. Also bring mosquito repellent, as mosquitoes are most active around sunset. 3. Limit daily driving distance to 200-300 kilometers. Depart before 9 AM to avoid peak tourist season, and schedule a lunch break; don't rush. 4. Hire a car through legitimate channels and verify the operator's qualifications. Before signing the contract, include the vehicle type, included items, and who will cover the driver's food and accommodation. 5. Choose a reputable horse ranch in Heishantou. They provide insurance, protective gear, and trained horses, so even first-timers can ride with confidence. Follow the staff's instructions and don't pull on the reins yourself. 6. There is no cell phone signal deep in the grasslands; download offline maps beforehand. Don't rely on navigation; it may malfunction on some natural routes. 7. It's windy around Hulun Lake, so dress warmly. Don't go in the water; protect the lake's ecosystem and enjoy the scenery. Finally, a heartfelt word: Hulunbuir shattered my spending habits, not because it's expensive, but because it made me rethink my money—what was I actually buying with all the money I spent elsewhere? Watching the wind whip across the golden grasslands from the cliffs of the Morigele River, riding horses at Heishantou and watching the sunset paint the wetlands red, taking a bite of freshly baked bread in the courtyard of an Enhe log cabin—these are things you can't find anywhere else. Save this and share it with your grassland buddies; make September the perfect time to experience it!
