Despite the large tank, fishing was done one person at a time 💦. A family ahead of us mentioned they came at 7:00 AM the previous day and had to wait for two hours, so they tried again. Indeed, by the time we left, there was a long queue. It's best to go early. At squid fishing, the squid you catch is prepared for you. Even after its head is cut off, it wriggles when soy sauce is poured on it! It was fun and delicious. The seafood bowl at Aisen Maekawa for breakfast was fresh and tasty. There were many autographs from celebrities. Returned to OMO hotel to check out. Luggage was stored in the lockers next to the front desk. Although there are plenty of lockers, the front desk can store your luggage if they're full. Took a taxi to visit tourist spots like the Former Hokkaido Government Hakodate Branch Office. ⭐︎ Before the trip, we watched the Detective Conan movie "The Fist of Blue Sapphire" to prepare! We reminisced about scenes like where Kazuha was or where Kaitou Kid had his battle while sightseeing. The Former Hakodate Ward Public Hall and Hachiman-zaka Slope were particularly memorable 😊. Walked downhill towards Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse. It was manageable since it was downhill, but climbing uphill seemed impossible for me 💦. Starting from the top is recommended! At Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, we enjoyed shopping and gelato. Lucky Pierrot is a restaurant chain exclusive to Hakodate. The Lucky Fries were so delicious that we had them at other locations too (laughs). Returned to OMO hotel again. OMO offers a free Hakodate Guruguru Shuttle Bus, which is a great perk. You can ride it even after checking out. The bus also goes to the Former Hokkaido Government Hakodate Branch Office area. Check the timetable to plan your schedule. This time, we took the shuttle bus to Goryokaku. Near Goryokaku Tower, there's another Lucky Pierrot 🤤. The view from the top of Goryokaku Tower is breathtaking. It's truly star-shaped ⭐︎. There's a palm reading machine that was featured on TV, so we tried it! After leaving the tower, we explored the surroundings, reminiscing about Detective Conan ☺️. Visited the nearby Fushimi Inari Shrine, which offers a unique butterfly-themed goshuin (temple stamp). It's a must for goshuin collectors. Also visited Saijōji Temple, which has beautiful goshuin as well. Took a regular paid bus to Hakodate Station, then returned to OMO hotel to retrieve luggage. Walked to the second-night hotel. Century Marina Hakodate was our accommodation for the second night. Dropped off luggage and went to Yōyōyōtei for Jingisukan. The mutton had no unpleasant smell and was delicious. However, the Jingisukan we had in Otaru before was so good that this ranked second. The next day, we didn't do any sightseeing. We landed at Haneda and headed to Yokohama 💦. So, the continuation is about Century Marina Hakodate. It's the hotel where the villain from Detective Conan stayed 😆.

Most of the shops were already closed, but I could still enjoy the atmosphere. ⚪︎Nemuro Hanamaru Kiraris Hakodate branch before 17:00 ※ It was a bit early for dinner, but it turned out to be a great decision! There was already a line. By the time I finished eating, there was a huge queue. 　　　　↓ 5 minutes on foot 🚶 ⚪︎OMO5 Hakodate by Hoshino Resorts 　　　　↓ Boarded the OMO tour bus 🚌 ⚪︎Night view from Mount Hakodate ⭐︎ Since I took my time at Haneda Airport, I started a bit late upon arriving in Hakodate. To save time, I took a taxi to Trappistine Monastery. The building was very beautiful. Yukura Shrine is famous for its cute charms and goshuin (shrine stamps). There’s also a squid fishing fortune slip, so I highly recommend trying it. Hakodate has two large markets, but due to time constraints, I couldn’t visit both. So, I got off the streetcar at Shinkawa-cho after visiting Yukura Shrine. I walked through Hakodate Free Market to Nemuro Hanamaru Kiraris Hakodate branch. There was already a line, but going early was the right choice. By the time I left, there was a massive queue 💦 After that, I walked to the hotel. At night, I went to see the night view from Mount Hakodate. I had pre-booked the hotel’s bus tour. It costs 2,000 yen per person, but the guide shared many interesting stories about Hakodate, so it was very satisfying. The tour allowed 30 minutes at Mount Hakodate, but if you want to stay longer, you can enjoy the night view and find your own way back. There’s a ropeway available. It seemed crowded, but the view from the ropeway must be beautiful too. I personally enjoyed it within 30 minutes and returned by the tour bus. The night view from Mount Hakodate is characterized by its orange streetlights. It’s a unique feature of Hakodate, so I highly recommend taking the bus tour 🚌 When I returned to the hotel, there was an organ performance, so I listened while enjoying some soft serve ice cream. This soft serve was incredibly delicious, so you must try it! It’s one of the best I’ve ever had 🍦 To be continued the next day! It feels like I’m on a pilgrimage to famous anime locations (laughs).

There’s also a café, but note that it’s closed on Thursdays. I purchased a tower observation ticket for 1,200 yen and went up to the observation area. When the elevator doors opened, a breathtaking view unfolded before my eyes! 📍43-9 Goryokaku-cho, Hakodate City, Hokkaido 【Kaiten Sushi Shunka】 This is a restaurant recommended by locals. Since it was right in front of Goryokaku Tower, I stopped by for a quick bite. The drink you must try here is the shake! It’s called the "Lucky Shake Healthy Goma Goma." The rich harmony of sesame and vanilla was absolutely delicious. It was so thick that it was hard to sip at first (lol). If you visit Hakodate, be sure to enjoy a stroll around the Goryokaku area!

Walking towards Mount Hakodate, you'll reach the bottom of Hachiman-zaka slope. 【Hachiman-zaka Slope】 A famous spot with a long, straight slope offering panoramic views of the harbor from the top. I had decided to eat sushi 🍣 in Hakodate, and although I was initially hesitant about conveyor belt sushi in a tourist area, every local I met recommended Shunka! So, I decided to give it a try. True to the locals' praise, the menu featured rare and fresh ingredients, making the sushi absolutely delicious! One surprising dish for me was the crab 'fundoshi'—it was fluffy and had a unique texture, and the taste was amazing! The soy sauce was so good that I ended up buying it from Seicomart! I had heard that Shunka often has long lines, but I managed to enter smoothly, perhaps because I arrived at the perfect time. 🇯🇵 How much do I love Hokkaido? Well, I’ve visited three years in a row! I’m absolutely smitten. I usually go during winter, around mid-December, because I want to experience sub-zero temperatures and snow. Hokkaido is a province I highly recommend. It’s vast, with plenty of attractions. Accommodation is cheaper than in Tokyo, but flight tickets tend to be pricier. Let me share my reviews of the cities in Hokkaido that I’ve visited. · 📍In Sapporo, especially the Susukino area There are plenty of shopping spots, attractions, and restaurants. Honestly, just exploring the city is already delightful, especially when it’s snowing—it’s magical! The Susukino area is lively, with many late-night dining and drinking spots. Some places in Sapporo that I recommend include: 🌨️ Sapporo Clock Tower / Odori Park / Nijo Market (super fresh seafood!) / Tanukikoji Shopping Street / Sapporo TV Tower / Giant Ferris Wheel · 📍Shiroi Koibito Park - Shiroi Koibito Chocolate Factory Still in Sapporo, this theme park is styled as a chocolate factory. It’s a picturesque spot with many photo opportunities, designed in a European theme. You can watch the making of Shiroi Koibito cookies through glass windows. The treats are delicious, and the pudding is fantastic. There’s also a workshop for making sweets, but you’ll need to book in advance. · 📍Hill of Buddha Located in Makomanai Takino Cemetery, still in Sapporo. There’s a replica Moai statue here. Inside, there’s a café for a quick rest before you proceed to the large Buddha statue. If you visit during summer, it’s surrounded by lavender flowers. In winter, it’s blanketed in white snow. · 📍Jozankei Onsen A famous hot spring village in Hokkaido, located in Jozankei. It’s vast, beautiful, and surrounded by nature. There are foot bath zones and many photo spots. It feels like a mountain village. You can visit for a day trip or stay overnight at one of the hotels. Personally, I went for a day trip—took photos, soaked my feet in the onsen, strolled around a bit, and then headed back. · 📍Otaru Otaru is another favorite city of mine. It’s a romantic port city with a long walkway lined with restaurants and shops. It’s a great spot for photos. If you’ve seen the movie “Fan Day,” you’ll love following its trail here. It’s a chill, slow-paced city. Popular attractions include the Otaru Music Box Museum, Kitaichi Glass Factory, and Otaru Canal. · 📍Otaru Aquarium A small aquarium by the sea. Perfect for aquarium enthusiasts. There’s a penguin parade, dolphin shows, seal feeding shows, and more. Check the schedule for each show. The medium-sized fish tunnel and surrounding views are stunning. You won’t need much time to explore, but it’s definitely worth it. · 📍Christmas Tree in Biei and Mild Seven Hills The famous Christmas tree or the “Lonely Tree” in Biei is quite far from the city center. It’s best to visit during heavy snow for beautiful photos. Mild Seven Hills features rows of Kiramatsu pine trees, also in Biei. If you love photography, this is a must-visit. You can also drive around Biei to discover more scenic viewpoints. · 📍Ningle Terrace A fairy-tale village in Furano. It’s filled with handmade craft shops and charming knick-knacks. Located within the New Furano Prince Hotel, a famous ski resort in Furano. Visit in the evening when the lights are on—it’s truly magical and perfect for photography. Don’t forget to come during peak snow season! · 📍Hakodate My absolute favorite city in Hokkaido! It’s peaceful, beautiful, and by the sea. Here are some places I’ve visited: 🌨️ Daimon Yokocho, near JR Hakodate Station—a lively area with food stalls and izakaya. It opens in the evening. 🌨️ Goryokaku Five-Pointed Star Fort and Goryokaku Tower—climb up for stunning views. 🌨️ Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse—a shopping district with plenty of stores. 🌨️ Hakodate Orthodox Church—a picturesque spot for photos. 🌨️ Hakodate Kyu Kodaido—European-style architecture. You can explore inside, and there’s a highlight where you can rent vintage European outfits for photos (30 minutes). Note that makeup and hairstyling are not included, so prepare beforehand. Visiting in winter is freezing, but the photos are worth it. 🌨️ Lucky Pierrot Hakodate Don’t miss this burger joint, ranked number one in Japan, with branches only in Hakodate! Personally, I think it’s delicious, and the price is reasonable for the portion size.

"Ozigi Brewing Hakodate Beer Brewery" is a beer restaurant where you can enjoy freshly brewed craft beer made on-site at the attached brewery. The restaurant is within walking distance of popular Hakodate tourist spots like Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse and Hachimanzaka. Housed in a retro building from the late Taisho era, its smoky blue exterior is incredibly stylish! The interior decor is also very chic, making me excited to order, thinking the food must be just as tasteful! First, a toast with craft beer♪ · Blackberry Porter: 900 yen · Atsuma Fresh Hop IPA: 900 yen Wow! Delicious! Absolutely amazing!! Especially the Atsuma Fresh Hop IPA, which has a refreshing yet pleasantly punchy bitterness that spreads delightfully. As you sip slowly, the beer's temperature changes, naturally altering its flavor. It’s a beer to savor over time. I ended up ordering several refills... (laughs) And of course, the food was just as delicious! I tried the sweet potato with blue cheese and the quiche. During my trip to Hakodate, I enjoyed plenty of delicious food! Among them, I highly recommend the sushi restaurant "Nemuro Hanamaru Conveyor Belt Sushi" located in Kiralis Hakodate. This restaurant is situated in the basement of the Kiralis building, right in front of JR Hakodate Station. When you arrive at the restaurant, you need to check in using the ticket machine. Note that it operates on a first-come, first-served basis on the day, as reservations are not accepted. First, we toasted with draft beer! We ordered sushi featuring ingredients unique to Hokkaido. · Hakodate specialty sujiko (salmon roe) · Red snow crab miso · Fatty herring · Seared flounder fin · Nemuro-produced cod roe wrapped in spicy cod roe · Salmon mefun gunkan The winner this time was the fatty herring! It had no unpleasant smell, and the tender flesh melted in the mouth. The mefun gunkan caught my attention with its unusual name, so I ordered it out of curiosity. It’s made from the kidney (sewata) located on the belly side of the backbone, salted and aged.
