Built in 1611, Hatfield House is considered one of the best examples of Jacobean architecture in England. The children of King Henry VIII, including Queen Mary I, Queen Elizabeth I, and King Edward VI, all grew up here. During the reign of her sister, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth I was briefly imprisoned here. It was also at Hatfield House, under a tree in the garden, that Queen Elizabeth I received the news that Queen Mary I had died and that she would be crowned queen.

Its a 30 min train from London straight to Hatfield where you can enjoy the beautiful gardens. Once you purchase a ticket you can take a walk around and go inside the old palace and Hatfield house where famous films and series have been filmed such as Bridgerton. My family and I recently enjoyed a wonderful two-night winter break at The Comet Hotel Hatfield, and it was exactly the tranquil escape we needed. The hotel's unique Art Deco charm really added to the experience, making it feel special right from our friendly and efficient check-in. Our room was a highlight – spacious, immaculately clean, and very quiet despite the hotel's convenient location near a main road. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the effective heating system ensured a warm and cozy environment, a must-have for a December stay. The room amenities, including quality toiletries and good tea/coffee facilities, were much appreciated. We had dinner one evening at the on-site Element Bar & Kitchen, which had a lovely, warm atmosphere. The food was excellent, with a good choice of seasonal dishes that were well-cooked and flavourful. Breakfast was also very good, offering a wide and fresh buffet selection each morning. The location is ideal for local exploration. We took a short drive to Hatfield House for their Christmas market and enjoyed some quiet winter walks in the nearby Stanborough Park. The convenience of the adjacent Galleria shopping center was also a bonus for some last-minute gift browsing. Above all, the staff were consistently amazing – friendly, helpful, and genuinely committed to ensuring a great stay. We'll definitely be back.
