Things to do at Hokitika, carve your own stone
#wecreate After a night stay at the Holiday Park in Hokitika, we decided to join a workshop before heading to Kaikuora. send our request in wee hour but was greeted in the morning upon our request. the owner , not sure is he a Maori, his laughter really will catch your attention. hahaha. if you got 2 hour or more to spend, do book a slot to design, select and hands on do a special one yourself. i carve my dog shape using qaua, the other using bone. from drawing to cutting out on paper then trace on the shell/bone/stone then using the machine to carve it shape, the teacher will show and finalise with a string for you.
A hidden gem in South Island
Unlike the usual big tourist attraction of New Zealand, the Hokitika Gorge walk is a rather new walk located in the West Coast of South Island, New Zealand.
It is an easy one hour stroll through native bush which can be done by everyone. You will be walking through hardwood forest and eventually reaching a swing bridge which will gives an excellent view of the Hokitika River.
As shown in the photo, the river is really beautiful with its blue-greenish colored water.
I will highly recommend everyone who are in the west coast to come visit this place! However please note that there could be many sandflies in the area, so make sure to wear proper clothings if you do not want to be bitten too much!

Hokitika Gorge Walk
If you’re visiting West Coast of New Zealand, be sure not to miss out on a visit to Hokitika Gorge. The surreal turquoise blue waters of the Hokitika River drains from the distant Sale glacier, tucked away above 1219 metres high in the Southern Alps. In real life, it is exactly as blue as like what you see in the photos.
From the car park it’s only a four minutes walk away from the viewing platform, ten minutes walk away from the swing bridge and fifteen minutes walk away from the river edge. All in all, it takes about one hour for a loop track. This place is about a 40 min drive away from the nearest Hokitika town, but the views are totally worth it.

Overall, a road trip to Hokitika is an excellent way to experience some of the most beautiful scenery and art installations that New Zealand has to offer. Whether you're looking to relax on the beach, explore the town's vibrant arts scene, or indulge in some delicious cuisine, Hokitika has something for everyone.
Seeing a beautiful sunset in Hokitika, New Zealand, jumping from the height of 10,000 feet in Queenstown, hiking 10 km in Mount Cook, making a vow under the snowy mountains, picnicking at Lake Wanaka, in Tikpo The lake held hands to see the starry sky and the Milky Way, the first attempt to fly in Wanaka and the lobster in Kaikoura. . . . 1 car, 11 days, more than 2,800 kilometers, galloping in the dream of New Zealand, experienced an unprecedented journey!
New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries in the southern hemisphere, consisting of two islands, the South Island and the North Island, and the South Island is close to Antarctica (so if you are lucky enough to see the South Pole, you will see the most beautiful in Tekapu The starry sky and the rare Antarctic light), the North Island and Fiji are a country that is very suitable for self-driving travel. The distance between the various attractions is not close, but the scenery is infinite.
This is our main destination for self-driving New Zealand South Island. The South Island is famous for its natural landscapes. Lakes, snow mountains, glaciers, jungles and oceans are all available. Around the South Island, I traveled around the South Island, galloping in the blue sky and white clouds, like a fairy tale world, as beautiful as a dream, but it is still at your fingertips.
Hokitika, the gateway to the Fox Glacier and the Franz Josef Glacier, produces New Zealand-specific jade, known as the City of Jade
If you take the bus, Hokitika Green in Hokitika The parking lot behind the jade shop is the last stop to go to Fox Glacier. After 40 minutes of parking, you can go to the supermarket to buy. Franz Josef Glacier and Fox Glacier are not so big, and things are more expensive. There is a new world supermarket.
What to play?
1, Hokitika Beach
In the central street of the small town, you can find a wooden sign with Hokitika Beach Access. You can see a very large beach. On sunny days, green grass, blue sky and white clouds, there are white stones on the black sand. There are also artworks by trees from all over the beach, which are very beautiful!
2, Hokitika Gorge
the town's hotels often have an introduction to this attraction. It is a milk river and canyons on both sides. A suspension bridge in the air is a historic place in New Zealand. . 35km from the town of Hokitika.
Tips: Self-driving navigation, let's go, from the town, drive for half an hour
3, you can explore the night. Hokitika Firefly: glow worm dell, not a cave, but a hill
The Alpine train made Arthur pass, and the driver master waited for me at Arthur's Pass, and began to travel along the New Zealand West Coast Route 6 by Hokitika-Fox Glacier. Along the 6th public heel to the road to Fox, all the way to the snow-capped mountains and lakes, the scenery is beautiful. Hokitika is a small town on the west coast of New Zealand and is a must for the Fox Glacier and the Franz Josef Glacier.
Hokitika is a small town on the west coast of New Zealand and is a must for the Fox Glacier and the Franz Josef Glacier. Known for its unique green jade in New Zealand, it is known as the city of jade in New Zealand. The historic Hokitika is also a place to learn about the fascinating history of New Zealand's west coast, strolling through the town's only main street, quietly as if you can hear the buzz from the clocks on the iconic clock tower in the heart of the town.
Continue from Hokitika to the south, turn south on the town of Ross, and the sky begins to clear. We stopped at the three lakes and took a break to enjoy the view.
You can mark it on the map in advance. Lake lathe, lake wahapo, lake mapourika.
Driving on New Zealand's country roads, the green signs on the roadside point to an attraction. These three lakes are no exception. Turning inland from the west coast, the weather unexpectedly cleared.
At the lakeside parking lot, some locals have breakfast on the wooden table. The blue sky is reflected in the lake, and the windless lake turns into a thin mirror. Walking into the lake, I found the lake very clean and crystal clear. The stones and fish under the lake shore are clearly visible. These lakes are also fishing, but people who are fishing need to have a license. For tourists like us, these lakes are just passing by in a hurry.
There are not many locals around the lake, there are fewer homes, and it is rare to be quiet. The only thing that bothered the peace here was the breeze and the white clouds.
On the beach of Hokitika, there is a symbolic spot of the net red, which is the shape of this HOKITIKA wood, which attracts people from all over the world to pilgrimage, the perfect sky and the color of the sea to integrate it all. The color of the beach here is rare black sand. Although it is dirty at first sight, it is still more delicate after going down. The town is still so quiet, there are not many pedestrians and vehicles on the street. The landmark building of the town is a bell tower standing in the center of the central road around the island. The town seems quiet to hear the buzzing of the clock of the clock tower. The seagulls on the beach are flying freely. It is the life I am looking forward to.
Hokitika's beach has a lot of wood that is made by the locals, so it is suitable for the future. Walking on the beach, because of the many sundries, it flashed a flashlight. When the clouds were foggy and the Milky Way in the southern hemisphere was in front of me for the first time, this long-lost touch made me excited and set my flashlight to the sky.
There is a fjord in the nearby half-hour drive. It was just for the purpose of killing time. I didn't expect the scenery to exceed my expectations. Looking at the heights, the blue water surface is like a strange gem set in the jungle. You can walk to the high-pitched rock, but be careful, you can't see it in the picture. It's actually very dangerous. If you don't pay attention, it will fall into the water. I climbed over and the old people wanted to come over and I was stopped.
Salmon Farm South Westland Salmon, just off Bruce Bay, pay attention to the signs on the road. I can see the salmon breeding pond, and it is said that the Paringa River, which is melted in snow and mountains, raises salmon and is very hygienic. There are a group of small fish and a big fish. . Next to it is the restaurant, which has a variety of salmon food and the scenery is not bad. I also posted a beautiful refrigerator in this accident, as if to say what is the stone material, I believe. Salmon is very fresh, it is recommended to buy a large piece, it will be cheaper than a box, by the way: If the trip is sure to come here to eat a meal, then please buy lemon and mustard in the supermarket in advance. . Can save the province, the hoopist consciousness shines.
Next door to
Hokitika Beach is Fat Pipi Pizzas, the only silverfish pizza on the West Coast. Its really hot to go into the door, but I have to wait for it. There is an outdoor garden area behind, the sky is too cold, afraid of freezing or giving up, and the boss discussed it, just sitting at the table in the waiting area at the door.
Have you ever eaten Taihu Sanbai and Silverfish Steamed Egg? New Zealanders also love silverfish and fish more on the west coast of the South Island. They are juveniles of several different species of milkfish. We are also very fortunate to catch up with the silverfish season in the spring. Silverfish pizza is not bad, recommended.
The ginger beer in the picture is called Pentax, which is the first-selling ginger beer in Australia. Although it is beer, Pentax does not contain any alcohol. It is not just a combination of soda and ginger flavoring agents. It is made by selecting a selection of Australian quality dried ginger and then heating it with caramel water. Natural yeast malt fermentation.
Hokitika is a small town in the western part of New Zealand's South Island. It is famous for its unique green jade in New Zealand and is known as the Jade City of New Zealand. What I like more, however, is its tranquility. At 8 or 9 o'clock in the summer evening, stroll on the delicate sand beach, admire the works stacked by the artists with dead wood, waiting for the sunset to come... There is no one on the street, if it is not a few hares pulled out from the grass Selling Meng, you will feel that this world is as quiet as you and the people around you... In addition, the free firefly forest here is also recommended, just on the edge of the town, although it is said to be much smaller than the size of the firefly hole in the North Island. But after I walked in for the first time, it was still very shocking. It was really dreamy. Of course, if there are fewer tourists, there will be no more light and voice, and it will be more romantic.
Driving in New Zealand, the overall feeling is that the land is sparsely populated. The feeling of driving all the way is: there is no car. I am used to the bustling domestic attractions, we like this kind of private space. There will be many lakes passing by along the way. The first Lake Mahinapa was inadvertently passed.... The second Lake Ion and the third Lake Maprica are both quiet and beautiful, and you can do whatever you want at the lake. The calm lake reflects the blue sky and white clouds, forming a beautiful oil painting. Although I dare not say that it is the most beautiful, but at least it is impressive.
