Huaining travel guide and discussion

Tired of the weekend crowds in Hefei malls and looking for a slow-paced old city to unwind? Anqing is the perfect short-trip destination. It takes as little as 55 minutes by high-speed train from Hefei South Station, or 1.5 hours by car. No long-distance travel is required, making it just right for a 2-day, 1-night trip. See the Yangtze River and ancient pagodas, stroll through Ming and Qing dynasty streets, eat authentic Wanjiang snacks, and soak in the atmosphere of the hometown of Huangmei Opera. ✈️ Transportation Guide | Departing from Hefei ✅ High-Speed Train (Recommended): Hefei South → Anqing Station. Second-class tickets start at 77 yuan. There are many departures. After exiting the station, a 10-yuan taxi ride takes you directly to the city center. Do not book tickets to Anqing West Station, as it is very far from the city. ✅ Driving: Take the Hefei-Anqing Expressway. The total distance is about 180km, and it takes 1.5 hours to arrive. Parking in the city is convenient. ✅ Within the City: Taxi starting fare is 6 yuan, and most trips between attractions are under 10 yuan. Shared electric scooters are a super comfortable way to explore the old city. 📅 2-Day, 1-Night Itinerary (The "Escape Hefei" Comfort Version) Day 1: Depart from Hefei → Old City Atmosphere + Yangtze River Sunset 08:30 | Depart from Hefei South Station by high-speed train to Anqing 10. 00 | Arrive and head straight to Dananmen for local breakfast. Must-try: juicy beef buns + mung bean ball soup. These are old shops where locals line up. 11. 30 | Daobashi Historical and Cultural District (Free). Ming and Qing dynasty bluestone streets and old buildings with horse-head walls. Check out the Daobashi stone archway and the Great Qing Post Office. It's great for Republic of China-style photos. Visit century-old brands like Hu Yumei and Mailongxiang. 13:30 | Lunch: Jiangmao dumplings (century-old intangible cultural heritage), Anqing iron-pan fried noodles, and try the specialty chicken soup with fried rice cakes. 15:00 | Yingjiang Temple + Zhenfeng Pagoda. The "Number One Pagoda of the Ten Thousand Mile Yangtze River." You can climb the tower to overlook the mighty Yangtze River. The river breeze is incredibly atmospheric. The stairs inside the tower are steep, so walk slowly and watch your step. 17:40 | Riverside Park: Wait for the Yangtze River sunset and watch the riverboats pass by. It is incredibly healing. 19:00 | Night tour of the ancient streets. The red lanterns are all lit up. Explore the night market for food. If interested, you can go to the Zaifen Huangmei Mansion to listen to live Huangmei Opera. Day 2: Cultural Exploration → Return to Hefei 09:00 | Anqing Museum (including the Huangmei Opera Museum). Free, but requires a reservation. Learn about Wanjiang history and culture, and see the Huangmei Opera costume and prop exhibition area. Allow 2–3 hours. 11:30 | Linghu Park. A city park with lush tree shade. If you are lucky, you can hear local seniors improvising Huangmei Opera. It is a relaxing place for a walk with a slow, unhurried pace. 13. 00 | Lunch in the old city. You can buy souvenirs like Mozi cakes. 14. 30 | Pack up and take the high-speed train back to Hefei, perfectly ending your weekend escape. 🏨 Accommodation Suggestions Prioritize staying in the Yingjiang District (near Daobashi/Renmin Road). Chain hotels are 150–220 yuan, and homestays are 140–200 yuan. You will be right next to food and attractions, and most city landmarks are within walking distance. Staying near the train station is not recommended, as it is far from the old city tourist area. 🍜 Must-Eat Food List ▪️ Dananmen Beef Buns: Crispy and juicy, the gold standard for Anqing breakfast ▪️ Jiangmao Dumplings: Thin skin and tender filling, served in a delicious chicken soup base ▪️ Anqing Iron-Pan Fried Noodles, Chicken Soup with Fried Rice Cakes ▪️ Shanfen Meatballs with Braised Pork: A local specialty hearty dish ▪️ Souvenirs: Mailongxiang Mozi Cakes, Hu Yumei Broad Bean Paste ⚠️ Tips to Avoid Pitfalls 1. Make sure to book tickets to Anqing Station! Anqing West Station is over 30 kilometers away from the city center, and a taxi will cost dozens of yuan. Don't buy the wrong ticket. 2. The stairs inside Zhenfeng Pagoda are narrow and steep. Those with a fear of heights or claustrophobia should be cautious about climbing. Seniors and children should walk slowly and watch their footing. 3. Be a rational consumer regarding "internet-famous" snacks on the ancient streets. If you want authentic food, prioritize old shops crowded with locals. 4. You must bring your ID card to the Anqing Museum and make an online reservation in advance. You cannot enter without a reservation. 5. If you want to go to Tianzhu Mountain, you need to set aside a full day. Do not squeeze it into a 2-day city itinerary, or it will be very rushed. Avoid roadside unlicensed taxis/carpooling for Tianzhu Mountain; choose official transportation channels. 6. To watch the sunset by the river, check the sunset time for that day in advance. It is windy by the river, so bring a light jacket. 🔖 Tags

The Anqing Ancient Civilization Exhibition, located on the second floor of the Anqing Museum, is one of the museum's six permanent exhibitions. Using a comprehensive historical framework, the exhibition, drawing upon a rich collection of artifacts and incorporating scene reconstructions, site models, and multimedia presentations, systematically showcases Anqing's political, economic, cultural, and religious landscape from prehistoric times to the Ming and Qing dynasties. · *Exhibition Core Contents** · *Prehistoric Civilization Imprints:** This section highlights the achievements of early civilizations such as the Xuejiagang Culture, Huangshanzui Site, and Sunjiacheng Site. Exhibits include Neolithic pottery balls and pots, as well as a national first-class cultural relic, a stone human face sculpture, collected from the Duntou Site in Anqing, demonstrating the long historical pulse of ancient Anhui. · *Pre-Qin Wu-Chu Rivalry:** This section reflects Anqing's strategic position as the "head of Wu and tail of Chu" during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. The exhibition hall displays a large number of unearthed weapons, among which the museum's prized possession, the "Warring States Yue King Qibei Ancient Sword" (unearthed in 1987 from the Wangjiashan Warring States Tomb in Anqing), is particularly eye-catching. The sword bears a 32-character inlaid gold bird-script inscription, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. Other precious bronze artifacts include bronze wine vessels, bronze arrowheads, and bronze spears with the character "王" (king). The exhibition also features exhibits on the flourishing of culture and culture throughout history, covering the historical changes from the Han and Tang dynasties to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Exhibits include a Tang dynasty bronze mirror with parrot and grape design (a national first-class cultural relic), a Southern Song dynasty openwork gold hairpin with floral and bird design, a Yuan dynasty celadon openwork ruyi-shaped pillow with figures, and coins and weights and measures reflecting the commercial prosperity of the Ming and Qing dynasties (such as the weights from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom's "Heavenly Treasury").

A city of Huangmei opera, filled with performers. A tune of Huangmei opera, known by all as Anqing. Leaving Anqing, entering Huaining. Whether it's the Huangmei Opera Art Center, the Huiban Museum, or Shipei Town... From Huangmei opera to Huiju opera, it turns out that Huiju opera is the ancestor of all Chinese opera, and what we hear as Peking opera, Kunqu opera, Huangmei opera... all evolved from Huiju opera. At the Huangmei Opera Art Center in Huaining, I happened to catch a troupe rehearsing, watching the actors on stage and the director below, and the drummer quietly practicing on the side... Suddenly, I felt like I had traveled back to a scene from the recently concluded annual hit drama "The Protagonist." I hope traditional culture can be inherited and continued! For those who love Chinese opera, no matter what genre you prefer, coming to Anhui, to Anqing, to Shipei, you will always have an unexpected encounter with your passion! In Anqing, with Huangmei opera as the theme, various cultural and creative products are also very rich and colorful, refrigerator magnets, cups, bedside lamps with Bluetooth speaker functions... I really want to pack them all up and take them home.

Everyone thinks you can only beat the heat by going to Yunnan or Guizhou, but hotels are outrageously expensive during peak season. I found 8 seriously underrated off-the-beaten-path small towns, all reachable by high-speed train within two to three hours. The average summer temperature is around 25℃, with fewer crowds, beautiful scenery, and stable prices. There are leisurely ancient towns perfect for young kids and hidden mountain and water spots where elementary school kids can run free. Pick any one, and the whole family can enjoy a comfortable vacation. 01 Leshan | Sichuan When taking kids to Leshan, I suggest skipping the daytime climb up the Buddha under the scorching sun. We left at 4:30 PM, took a boat to see the Leshan Giant Buddha, and the river breeze instantly made it feel like 25℃. 🍜 Afterward, head straight to Zhanggong Bridge food street. Whether it’s foot-soaking beef, sweet-skinned duck, or tofu pudding, any old shop you pick won’t disappoint. The kids ended up with greasy faces from eating so much. The next morning at 7 AM, before the temperature rises, head straight to the lower area of Mount Emei. ⏰ The Qingyin Pavilion trail has icy creek water where kids can splash around while adults relax with tea in the shade. It’s so comfortable you won’t want to move. ⚠️ Don’t bring toddlers to climb to the Golden Summit—too many steps, even adults’ legs shake. If your kids are older, take the cable car up to see the sea of clouds; it’s worth the ticket price. Leshan is overall affordable, with decent hotels for 200–300 yuan, perfect for a short trip. 02 Shaoxing | Zhejiang Shaoxing is seriously underrated. It’s uncrowded and refreshingly cool in summer. We followed this route for a day: at 9 AM, visit Lu Xun’s hometown, walk from Baicao Garden to Sanwei Study, shaded by trees with lotus flowers growing in water jars. Kids can truly experience scenes from their textbooks. 🍜 For lunch, try stinky tofu and fennel beans at Xianheng Hotel. The kids thought the stinky tofu looked like “black ice cream” and laughed nonstop. At 3 PM, head to Lanting. The bamboo forest is shady, and kids can try the ancient drinking game of floating cups on winding water, pretending to be scholars. ⏰ Visit Anchang Ancient Town after 5 PM. The sunset turns the river a warm orange. Find a tea house by the river, sip yellow wine milk tea, and watch the black-awning boats drift by in the breeze. ⚠️ Shen Garden and Lu Xun’s hometown are close, but the garden is very sunny in the afternoon during summer. It’s better to visit both in the morning. Shaoxing’s pace is slow, ideal for young kids to explore leisurely without tiring out parents. 03 Anqing | Anhui Mount Tianzhu is definitely an overlooked summer escape. We drove to the south gate, took the cable car up, and rented jackets because the wind at the summit could blow you away. The kids saw the misty peaks and kept shouting, “The monsters from Journey to the West are coming!” They were so excited. 🚄 It’s only 40 minutes by high-speed train from Hefei to Anqing West Station, then about an hour by taxi to the scenic area, half the price of going to Huangshan. I recommend the Xiguan route, which has strange rocks, unique pines, and sea of clouds. The whole hike takes about three hours, doable for kids in elementary school and up. If you have elderly or toddlers, just go as far as Liandan Lake. The lake reflects the peaks like a painting. 🍜 After descending, go to Qianshan town for mountain rice balls with braised pork. Soft and chewy, the kids ate two bowls each. ⚠️ There are few supply points on the mountain, so bring extra water and snacks. It’s much cheaper to buy them at the base. 04 Longnan | Gansu Longnan is Gansu’s little Jiangnan, cool and humid in summer. We mainly visited Wen County’s Tianchi Lake and Guaneigou. Tianchi is hidden deep in the mountains, with water so blue it doesn’t look real, like a giant emerald. The kids spent an hour skipping stones by the lake. ⚠️ The road to Tianchi is tricky with many mountain curves. Bring motion sickness medicine if needed. Guaneigou is wilder, with waterfalls roaring in the canyon and streams every few steps where kids can splash around. 🍜 At the valley entrance, there’s a stall selling hot mashed potatoes mixed with chili vinegar. The kids found it novel, and adults thought it was delicious. Longnan is great for elementary kids with enough stamina to hike and wade through water, and adults can enjoy fresh mountain air. 05 Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture | Xinjiang In Xinjiang with kids, Urumqi is hot, but Sayram Lake is always 25℃. We stayed at the entrance of Sayram Lake Scenic Area and went in early the next morning. The lake’s blue was tear-inducing. The kids chased swans swimming in the lake. ⏰ Arrive before 9 AM for fewer people and soft light to capture mirror-like lake photos. At noon, visit the valley trail in Wenquan County, shaded by spruces with icy creek water, perfect for a picnic. 🍜 In the evening, eat big plate chicken and baked buns in Bole City. Xinjiang lamb isn’t gamey at all, and the kids loved gnawing on the bones. The Anjihai Grand Canyon is on the way to Sayram Lake. Standing on the cliff edge looking down is breathtaking but be sure to keep kids away from the edge. This spot is ideal for middle and high school kids, offering a strong aesthetic impact and broadening their horizons. ⚠️ The trip is long, so renting a car is recommended. Book accommodations in advance. 06 Hohhot | Inner Mongolia Summer in Hohhot is cool like natural air conditioning, and you need a jacket at night. We visited Laoniuwan Yellow River Grand Canyon Tourist Area. The combination of the Yellow River and canyon made the kids say, “It looks like it’s straight out of a geography book.” Riding a speedboat through the canyon with the wind blowing was very refreshing. The next day, we went to the Chilechuan Grassland Cultural Tourism Area. Though smaller than Hulunbuir, it’s less crowded, with reasonable horse-riding prices. The kids rode once and wanted to go again. ⏰ It’s best to visit the grassland after 4 PM when the light is soft and the temperature drops to just over 20℃. Every photo looks like a Windows desktop background. 🍜 In the city, eat at Gerile Ama Milk Tea House. Try pot tea, hand-pulled meat, and yogurt pancakes. The kids loved the milk skin in the pot tea and drank two bowls in a row. Recommended for kids in elementary school and up. They can ride horses and see canyons, which is much more fun than playing on phones in the city. 07 Shenyang | Liaoning Many think Shenyang is hot in summer, but Beiling Park and Expo Garden are very cool. We went to Beiling Park at 7 AM before the tourists arrived. The forest was full of birdsong, and ancient pines shaded the whole area, so it wasn’t sunny at all. Walking along the lake to Zhaoling, the kids enjoyed the story of Emperor Huang Taiji. At 3 PM, we went to Expo Garden, where the rose garden and lily sea were in full bloom. It was uncrowded and beautiful, perfect for photos. ⚠️ Many kids feed fish in Beiling Park, so bring some steamed buns or bread. 🍜 For dinner, go to Xita Street for Korean barbecue. For about 60 yuan per person, you can eat until full. The cold noodles are sweet, sour, and refreshing, which the kids especially liked. If you have time, visit the Wugou Jingguang Relic Pagoda. It’s quiet and great for kids interested in history and ancient architecture. Shenyang is suitable for elementary and middle school kids with just the right amount of physical activity. 08 Handan | Hebei Handan is a hidden gem we discovered this year. Guangfu Ancient City and Nuwa Palace amazed me. Early summer mornings in Guangfu Ancient City have lotus flowers all over the moat. Walking on the city wall with the breeze blowing over the lotus leaves is very cool. 🏠 The ancient city still has many locals sitting in alleys making crafts. Kids can buy a handmade fan for 10 yuan. It’s best to visit Guangfu in the morning when it’s cool, then have a bowl of Yongnian crispy fish. The fish bones are crispy, and kids can finish a whole fish by themselves. In the afternoon, visit Nuwa Palace, a palace built on a cliff, very spectacular. ⚠️ Nuwa Palace has long, steep stairs. If you have toddlers, use a hip seat. There’s a cable car to save some effort. Overall, it’s suitable for elementary kids to learn history and have fun. The cost is low and it’s much better than crowded Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou. Among these 8 places, I personally recommend Leshan and Shaoxing the most. Both are accessible by high-speed train, and kids have fun while adults don’t get tired. Do you have any secret summer escapes? Share in the comments.

On the weekend, I took my baby and husband and drove to Anqing. This time, our destination was Anqing Dechen Jinling Hotel, a high-end hotel that combines business and leisure, especially suitable for family travel. 🌟🚗 👶 A little surprise in the family-themed room 🎁 As soon as we entered our family-themed room, the baby jumped up with excitement! The room was not only warmly and cutely decorated but also had a small bed designed specifically for kids, cartoon slippers, and even a little toy corner filled with all kinds of toys. Seeing the child so happy, I felt this trip choice was totally worth it! 💖 🏊‍♀️ Happy times in the swimming pool 🌞 The hotel’s swimming pool is truly a paradise for children! The pool on the fourth floor is spacious and bright, with crystal-clear water. We played in the water and met several other families with kids, sharing our travel stories together. The rest area by the pool was also very comfortable; my husband brewed a cup of tea there, leisurely enjoying the afternoon sunshine. 🌞☕ 🍽️ The temptation of delicious food, a feast for the taste buds 🍜 The hotel offers a wide variety of dining options, from exquisite Chinese cuisine to international buffets, each meal a journey of flavors. Especially the hotel’s Chinese restaurant, which serves a range of authentic Anhui dishes with delicious flavors that linger in your memory. The kids particularly loved the hotel’s children’s menu, which was not only nutritious but also very tasty—every meal was a little adventure. 🍴🌈 🌃 Charming night views, unforgettable evenings ✨ At night, we took a walk along the Huai’an River and then stopped by the hotel lobby bar to enjoy the enchanting city night view through the window. This thousand-year-old ancient trail with few people and beautiful scenery feels like stepping into a Huizhou ink painting during the entire hike~ 📍Route Name: Shexian Ruoling Ancient Trail Located in Xucun Town, Shexian County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, it is a thousand-year-old official path connecting the ancient Huizhou Prefecture and Anqing Prefecture. The original ecological scenery is not overly developed, with towering ancient trees along the way, and you can also encounter authentic Huizhou villages. The hiking difficulty is moderate, so beginners can handle it~ Hiking duration is 5-6 hours (can be split into 2-4 hour segments), making it very convenient for a round trip in one day! The best seasons are April-May when azaleas bloom, and October-November when the forests are ablaze with color. Cost reference: No entrance fee! Farmhouse meals cost about 50 RMB per person, and you can buy local specialties like native eggs and dried bamboo shoots at reasonable prices~ The whole hike is super healing, with the bluestone slabs bearing the marks of time, the forest breeze accompanied by birdsong. ✅Haizi Memorial Hall ⭕️"Facing the sea, spring blossoms", Haizi, a genius poet, was admitted to the law major of Peking University at the age of 15. After graduation, he taught at China University of Political Science and Law and committed suicide by lying on the railway track at Shanhaiguan at the age of 25. It is impossible to trace why he chose to leave in this way. Perhaps it was the loneliness of being alone in a foreign land, or the love that could not be returned... He chose to go to the distance to pursue his poetry, where there were his spring blossoms and the vast sea. 🌈Haizi, originally named Zha Haisheng, was born in Zha Wan Village, Gaohe Town, Huaining County, Anqing City, Anhui Province. 📍Detailed address: Navigate to Haizi's former residence. 🌈The four stone walls in front of the memorial hall are engraved with Haizi's love poems, hometown poems, wheat field poems, and classic poems. There is an echo in the circular area in the middle, which is a clever design. The memorial hall displays some items used by Haizi during his lifetime, handwritten letters and poems by Haizi, etc. 🌈There is a large lotus pond next to the memorial hall, and it will be prosperous when you come here in summer. Sitting on the small stool in the pavilion, the autumn wind is blowing, and it is also a different kind of feeling to be in a daze. 🚉Transportation strategy: It is recommended to drive by yourself. It takes about 20 minutes to come from Huaining County. The roads are all flat and parking is convenient. ❤Recommended reason: Learn about Haizi's life and learn his poetry culture.

This hotel is located in Anqing City, Anhui Province. It is an hour from Anqing Station on the high-speed rail line and 20 minutes from Anqing West Station. The room was spacious and clean, and the window overlooked the large adjacent park. There was not only a shower room but also a bathtub. The area around the hotel is a redeveloped area, and the streetscape is well-maintained and beautiful. The breakfast restaurant is spacious and you won't have to wait. The menu is extensive, and not only Chinese food but also bread and other items are available. They were smaller than the ones in Japan, but they also had fried dumplings, which is rare. #China #ChinaTrip #ChinaTourism #AnhuiProvince #Anqing
