A must visit ! We had the incredible 40 piece sushi board! Look for the Quidsin Jersey voucher to get a great offer at lunchtime. The sushi was absolutely lovely, and the service was fantastic. We went for lunch and two days later went back for dinner it was that good. La Roque Tower is one of 23 Conwy Towers built on the British Crown Dependency of Jersey between 1778 and 1801. The tower is of the standard Conway pattern, being rounded and tapered, and built of regularly squared and well-worked granite blocks, with some brick dressing. The upper floors are dotted with musket holes, and the first floor has a trimmed granite doorway. The parapet has four mechanical levels and a roof deck with masonry parapet. La Rocco Tower was the 23rd and final tower built to Conway's design. It was the largest and best armed of the series of coastal defense towers. La Rocco Tower It was originally named Gordon Tower, after the then Governor, Lieutenant General Andrew Gordon, but this was not popular with islanders. The military role of La Rocco Tower declined in the second half of the 19th century, and in 1923 the United States bought the site from the Crown for £100 as a shipping landmark with the obligation to keep it in good condition. During World War II, the Germans fortified the Bay of Saint-Ouen, believing it to be the most likely beach for an Allied landing. They converted La Rocco Tower and laid mines around it. Some of these were accidentally detonated in 1943, causing significant damage, especially to the southern part of the gun platform, which was severely damaged by the intrusion of seawater. Jersey is a British Crown dependency that was occupied by Germany during World War II from 1940 to 1945. In 1943, the German Navy built a battery observation post named "Marine Peilstand und Meßstellung 3" in the northwest corner of the Jersey Strait (Figures 3-6). Bunker MP3 is designed to be part of a system of nine bunkers. These will be built and set up all around the island to watch for enemy ships. Using readings from just two of the observation posts, bearings and distances could be accurately and quickly calculated and then passed on to the various batteries on the island for strikes. Of the nine planned bunkers, only MP1, MP2, and MP3 were ultimately built. But in fact I only found MP2 (right side of Figure 2) and MP3 on the island. MP3 has 2m thick walls, 7 floors, and target identification is done through an opening in the front of the bunker. The British Crown Dependency of St Aubin's Bay stretches for about 5 kilometres along the southern part of the island from St Helier in the east to St Aubin's Bay in the west. Gulf Owned A wide sandy beach, one of the closest to St Helier, it is often busy with sunbathers, especially at the eastern end around the seawater swimming pool. Jersey has the third highest tides in the world. At low tide, the island nearly doubles in size, and during the highest tide of the year, the tidal range reaches an astonishing 12 meters. Although the tidal range is only ranked third, the scenery after low tide is much more beautiful than the Bay of Fundy in Canada, which ranks first. Tidal currents not only create an ever-changing backdrop, as Jersey transforms from a turquoise bay to a rocky 'moon' landscape at low tide, they also create low-water habitats for rare marine life such as wild abalone, which is considered a delicacy in many countries, with Jersey being the farthest northerly place where abalone can be found.
