The Twist — a museum that's twisted.
The Twist near Oslo: a bridge-museum that twists reality 🔥
This is not just a building — it's a "living bridge" stretched across the Randselva River, as if twisted by a giant's hands. Designed by BIG (Bjarke Ingels, 2019), it's a silvery aluminum twist where the middle rotates 90 degrees, creating a gallery, sculpture, and observation deck all in one. Inside: dark halls for art, panoramic windows overlooking the forest and river, and the feeling of being inside a kaleidoscope. Nearby is the Kistefos Sculpture Park featuring works by Kusama, Eliasson, and Kapoor — 20 sculptures in the forest, plus an old paper mill from 1889 turned into an industrial museum.
Why visit:
• Free to stroll through the park, ticket to The Twist — 200 NOK (~$15)
• Winter — snow on the roof and mist over the river, summer — picnics by the water
• Perfect for photos: every angle looks like sci-fi
How to find it:
Search in Google Maps or Maps.me exactly as follows:
The Twist, Kistefos Museum
(80 km from Oslo, ~1 hour by car via E16, free parking at the entrance)
Tips:
• Arrive early — it's quiet and line-free from 10:00 AM
• Bring a warm jacket — it's +18°C inside, but the bridge can be drafty
• Combo: Twist + park = 2–3 hours for half a day
If you're looking for architecture that literally changes your perspective, The Twist is a must-see. Norway knows how to amaze ❤️
