Jiaoling travel guide and discussion

#大湾区住宿 Jiaoling Peihong Country Villa is located in Jiaoling Jiuling Village. It is similar to a resort hotel and is built next to the rural rice fields. If you like to get away from the city and relax, you can come and try it. Peihong Country Villa takes mountains, rivers and countryside as its theme, integrating local architectural aesthetics to create a relaxing and cozy leisure environment. When you "stay" in the country villa, you can look at the mountains and water and express your homesickness. The overall decoration style is elegant and delicate, and the space is lively and flexible. This is a country villa. The room is about 25 square meters in size. It is decorated in natural wood color. It is clean and tidy. The two single beds are quite comfortable. The biggest highlight of the room is that it has a small balcony. When you open the door, you will see a golden rice field, full of rich rural style. It is a place suitable for meditation, recuperation, leisure and vacation. It is worth experiencing. Address: About 190 meters southwest of Jiuling Y134 Wetland Park, Sanzhen Town, Jiaoling County

Take my advice📢 Meizhou is a severely underrated Hakka town with incredible scenery and food. But if you blindly join a tour group, you'll likely just get dragged to souvenir shops, missing out on the real ancient villages and authentic snacks‼️ Independent travel is the only way to experience Meizhou properly✅ I stayed up late to put together this super practical guide, perfect for your National Day trip✌️ --- 🌏 Location and transportation Meizhou is in northeast Guangdong, at the junction of Fujian, Guangdong, and Jiangxi provinces, known as the "World Capital of Hakka"🏠 You can take high-speed rail to Meizhou Station or Meizhou West Station; it takes about 3 hours from Guangzhou. ⚠️ Important‼️ Meizhou's core attractions are scattered across Meijiang, Meixian, Dapu, Jiaoling, and other districts, with travel times between them ranging from 40 to 90 minutes. Public transport is super inconvenient; you'll be miserable without a car🥲. I highly recommend renting a car locally, or carpooling/hiring a driver with friends for a much more comfortable experience✅. 🍜 Food recommendations | Flavors locals grew up with 🥢 Yanmian + Sanjidi soup — The breakfast soulmate Alkaline noodles tossed in lard, garlic, and scallions. Chewy and savory🔥 Pair with a bowl of freshly cooked Sanjidi soup (pork liver, lean meat, and kidney are super tender), sprinkle with pepper, and enjoy. You can get full for about CNY 10. You haven't really been to Meizhou if you haven't had this. 📍 Try the old-school breakfast shops in the Old Town (Jiangbei) or Meixing Road in Meijiang District. Just follow the locals in line. 🍗 Salt-baked chicken The signature Hakka dish! Freshly baked is best. Golden, oily skin, savory meat that falls off the bone, tender and juicy. Don't buy the vacuum-packed ones; the texture is completely different❌ 🥘 Stuffed tofu Water tofu filled with meat, pan-fried until golden, then braised. When you bite into it, the hot, savory broth bursts out. 🍮 Xianrenban The Hakka version of grass jelly. Add honey or sugar for a cool, refreshing treat. Perfect for when you're tired from walking in autumn🌿 🥣 Hongwu Shaved Ice A 70-year-old institution. Hand-made shaved ice that's fine and smooth. Must try the coconut milk and peanut flavor. Perfect for finishing off a savory meal. 🗺️ Itinerary | 3 days, 2 nights for lazy travelers Day 1: Old Town food tour 🏛️ Morning: Breakfast in Jiangbei Old Town (Yanmian + Sanjidi soup). The arcade buildings have a Nanyang vibe—great for photos. Afternoon: China Hakka Museum to learn about Hakka migration history. Free admission. Closed on Mondays, so don't show up then⚠️. Evening: Thousand Buddha Tower (also free). Red walls and yellow tiles are perfect for photos, and you can overlook the whole city from the tower. Day 2: Dapu ancient architecture 🏘️ From Meizhou Old Town to Huae Tower. This 400-year-old circular earth building looks like concentric circles when you look up from the center—it feels like walking into "Big Fish & Begonia." Then head to Baihou Ancient Town to explore the Ming and Qing dynasty architecture. Evening: Songkou Ancient Town. The arcade streets of this thousand-year-old hometown of overseas Chinese have a cinematic feel. Great for backlit photos after 4 PM. Free entry. Day 3: Tea field healing 🍃 Yannanfei Tea Garden. Thousands of acres of tea fields layered on the hillsides, as healing as a matcha cake. The light is softest from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM—every shot is wallpaper-worthy. Nearby Qiaoxi Ancient Rhyme is also worth a visit; the ancient village stone bridges and streams look like an ink wash painting. 📸 Photo spots | Clear your phone storage Thousand Buddha Tower 🛕: Red walls, yellow tiles, and layered pagodas. Wear Hanfu or plain-colored dresses for great shots. Yannanfei Tea Garden 🍵: The tea field boardwalk, sunrise over the tea sea, and sunset on the lake are must-haves. Wear a light-colored dress and stand in the tea fields—it always looks good. Songkou Ancient Town 🌅: Yuankui Tower, Songjiang Hotel, and the arcade streets. The atmosphere is incredible when the red lanterns light up in the evening. Pearl Park 🎨: A hidden gem in Meijiang District. One side has painted walls and blooming bougainvillea, the other has century-old Hakka houses—a unique collision of new and old. Baihou Ancient Town Yang Family Ancestral Hall 🏯: The mansion-style architecture with blue bricks and black tiles is stunning. Bring a wide-angle lens for panoramic shots. Chinese-style clothing works best here. 🏠 Accommodation | Stay in the right place to save yourself the trouble First choice: Near Jiangbei Old Town 🏮 Most food is in the old town. Breakfast shops and late-night stalls are within walking distance. Waking up and going downstairs for hot Yanmian is pure happiness. For something unique: Junzhilou Homestay Located on Pankeng Avenue in Meijiang District. It's a renovated old house with great design. Perfect for drinking tea and reading. Guests praise the elegant environment and high value. Budget-friendly: Qiya Homestay Near Fazheng Road. Central location, convenient for everything. Affordable prices, suitable for students or budget travelers. ⚠️ Book in advance around National Day. Good homestays in the old town sell out fast. 🚫 Tips to avoid traps | Don't fall for these 1️⃣ Don't join low-price tours ❌ "Zero-fee" or "low-price" tours are usually shopping traps. Guides will take you to souvenir shops and push paid activities, while you only get a quick glance at the real attractions. Independent travel is much freer! 2️⃣ Be careful if you're not driving 🚗 Meizhou's attractions are scattered. Public transport is infrequent and slow; you'll spend most of your day waiting. Either drive yourself or carpool, otherwise, your experience will be halved. 3️⃣ Enter Baihou Ancient Town from the side gate 🎫 The main gate charges admission, but walking into the village directly is free. Don't waste your money. 4️⃣ Avoid the museum on Mondays 📅 China Hakka Museum is closed on Mondays. Don't plan your trip for then, or you'll waste a trip. 5️⃣ Bring rain gear and mosquito repellent ☔ Autumn in Meizhou isn't as rainy as summer, but mountain weather changes fast. A folding umbrella and mosquito spray are good to have. 6️⃣ Don't buy vacuum-packed salt-baked chicken 🍗 Find freshly baked ones! The texture of vacuum-packed vs. fresh is totally different. The local old-school freshly baked ones are the best. 7️⃣ Take the electric cart at Yannanfei 🚌 The scenic area is huge; you'll be exhausted if you walk it all. The electric cart saves energy and lets you see more spots. Meizhou is a city that needs to be savored slowly. No need to rush. Wake up naturally, have a bowl of Yanmian, stroll under the arcades in the old town, and catch the breeze in the tea fields. That's the right way to experience the Hakka capital☺️

and truly the most comfortable season of the year. But having just learned the hard way, I honestly want to say: Meizhou is beautiful, but don't just rush there on a whim. Keep this hard-earned guide handy👇 📍Location & Transportation (The biggest pain point) Meizhou is in the northeast of Guangdong. High-speed rail goes directly to Meizhou West Station; it takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes from Guangzhou and about 2.5 hours from Shenzhen. But! The biggest pitfall in Meizhou is that the attractions are super scattered! Meijiang, Meixian, Jiaoling, Dabu, Wuhua... The drive between each attraction is 40–90 minutes. If you aren't driving yourself, I really don't recommend it; public transportation is extremely inconvenient. Chartering a car costs about 300–400 yuan/day. Only go if you can drive; if not, proceed with caution! 🍜Food (So good you'll need to hold the wall) · Yan noodles + Sanji-di soup (approx. 10 yuan/bowl) — The soulmate combo for breakfast; you haven't been to Meizhou if you haven't had Yan noodles. Alkaline noodles tossed with garlic and lard—so fragrant it's dizzying · Salt-baked chicken (approx. 30 yuan/serving) — The soul of Hakka cuisine! Free-range chicken baked in coarse salt; the skin is crispy, the meat is tender, and it's savory and flavorful. Wanqiulou Hakka Cuisine is located in a century-old Weilong house; you can eat your fill for an average of 50 yuan · Hakka stuffed tofu (approx. 20 yuan/serving) — The tofu absorbs all the meat juices and bursts in your mouth · Braised pork with preserved mustard greens (approx. 25 yuan/serving) — Fatty but not greasy, the ultimate rice companion · Bamboo shoot dumplings — Crystal-clear, chewy potato starch skin wrapped around fresh bamboo shoots, mushrooms, and minced meat · Grass jelly — A 5-yuan bowl of cooling relief · Hongwu shaved ice — A 70-year-old brand; the handmade shaved ice is fine and smooth 📍Dining Map: Youluo Street/Jiangbei Old Street — The go-to spot for locals; you can find Yan noodles and Sanji-di soup anywhere; Jinshan Road — The most authentic salt-baked chicken in a Weilong house 🏠Accommodation · Junzhilou Homestay: One of the first 5-star homestays in Meizhou, housed in a Hakka Weilong house. A century-old mansion renovated with blue bricks and wooden beams; the atmosphere is perfect for photos · Waipojia·Renshouzhuang Weilong House Homestay: A century-old Weilong house renovated in Songkou Town, half an hour's drive from Ye Jianying's Former Residence, Lingguang Temple, and Yannanfei · Hotels around Ketianxia/Yannanfei: Suitable for relaxing · Old town homestays: Convenient for eating and exploring, full of local life 🗺️Itinerary 3-day, 2-night slow travel version · Day 1 Old Town Flavors: Arrive at Meizhou West Station in the morning → Eat Yan noodles and Sanji-di soup at Youluo Street/Jiangbei Old Street → Meizhou Academy (free, red walls are great for photos) → Afternoon: China Hakka Museum (free reservation, closed on Mondays, see the Weilong house models) → Evening: Thousand Buddha Pagoda (free! Red walls and yellow tiles, climb the pagoda to overlook Meicheng) → Night: Walk along the Meijiang River to see the night view · Day 2 Tea Fields & Ancient Towns: Morning: Yannanfei Tea Field (5A scenic spot, ticket approx. 70 yuan, thousands of acres of tea fields) → Afternoon: Qiaoxi Ancient Rhyme (ancient village with stone bridges and streams, like an ink painting) → Evening: Songkou Ancient Town (free! A thousand-year-old hometown of overseas Chinese with arcade streets, great for backlit photos after 4 PM) · Day 3 Wrap-up: Ketianxia Scenic Area to see the Hakka town and intangible cultural heritage performances (night show from 28 yuan, cheaper than daytime and the lighting is beautiful); or go to Pingshan Terraced Fields (600-year-old ancient terraces, super spectacular) 📸Photo Spots · Thousand Buddha Pagoda: Red walls, yellow tiles, and layered pagodas; Hanfu or plain-colored long dresses are perfect here · Yannanfei Tea Field: Tea field boardwalks, sunrise, and sunset on the lake—every shot is wallpaper-worthy · Songkou Ancient Town: Yuankui Pagoda, Songjiang Hotel, and arcade streets; the atmosphere is perfect when the red lanterns light up in the evening · Qiaoxi Ancient Rhyme: The corridors of Jishan Building are super atmospheric on rainy days · Pankeng Scenic Area: The bald cypress trees are heartbreakingly beautiful in autumn; the painted walls and century-old houses in Pearl Park are also very special · Ketianxia: The night lighting, lake reflections, and lanterns make it the best spot for photos ⚠️Pitfall Guide (Every word is hard-earned) · Don't come if you aren't driving! Scattered attractions are the biggest pitfall in Meizhou. Cross-county attractions are too far, and public transport is extremely inconvenient · Avoid Mondays! The China Hakka Museum is closed on Mondays · Weather in September–October: 25–32°C during the day, slightly cool in the morning and evening, bring a light jacket. There may be showers in September, bring an umbrella · Beware of low-price tours! "99-yuan one-day tours" hide consumption traps; low prices often mean shopping scams. Sign a formal contract before traveling and don't trust verbal promises · Hakka cuisine tends to be salty and savory; you can ask for "less salt" in advance · Wear comfortable shoes for ancient villages and towns; there are many stone roads · For Yan noodles, look for shops where locals are queuing; usually 5–10 yuan per bowl · Ketianxia: Entry after 6 PM for the night show is 28 yuan, less than half the daytime price; the glass bridge and jungle coaster cost extra, but you don't have to play them · Yannanfei: Tickets are about 70 yuan online; the light is softest from 8:30–10:30 AM · Chartering a car: About 300–400 yuan/day; a 7-seater business vehicle is recommended Meizhou in September–October has beautiful autumn colors, fragrant pomelos, and food everywhere, but please make sure to drive yourself! The scenery and culture are a perfect 10, but the travel experience is a bit grueling. Coming once is enough to fulfill the dream, but would I come back a second time without a car? I'd really have to think about it.

Summer just isn't complete without rafting! I've recently checked out several rafting spots in Guangdong that feature NPC interactions. I've ranked them by how fun they are, so if you're struggling to decide where to go, just follow my lead👇 🏆 King Tier | Gulongxia Rafting Honestly, if you're looking for the ultimate "rafting + NPC interaction" experience in Guangdong, Gulongxia is the place to be. It's one of the few rafting spots in Guangdong in 2026 with NPCs stationed along the river, featuring a "Wild Amazon" theme. You'll find fur-clad "savages," Tarzan, and playful elephants. As you drift through the Gorilla Island and Crocodile Pool sections, the "savages" will jump out from the jungle to splash you with water guns and buckets, while mammoths on the bank spray water. At the finish line, Tarzan swings overhead to cheer you on. It's never a dull moment—it feels just like an adventure game. Plus, the river is shaded by the forest, so you won't be exposed to the sun—not needing sunscreen is a huge plus. There's also the Glass Platform and Cliff Coaster nearby, so you can enjoy water, land, and air activities all in one day. ⭐ Star Tier | Huangtengxia Rafting, Xuanzhen Rafting Huangtengxia features a pirate crew. During the rafting festival, there are pirate flash mobs in the waiting area, and in the calmer sections, they'll give you a "mountain spring water blessing" with a scoop, which makes for great photos. However, this isn't available year-round, so it's best to check the schedule before you go. Xuanzhen also focuses on basic interactive photo ops, making it suitable for a more relaxed trip. 💎 Diamond Tier | Dafengmen Rafting, Bijiashan Rafting, Bishuixia Rafting Bijiashan only hosts a water-splashing party on weekends at 2 PM, featuring Dai dances and a DJ for a water disco. The atmosphere is great, but there are no story-driven NPCs. Overall, these spots focus more on the natural river experience, so they're a good choice if you're looking for the thrill of an authentic rafting trip. 🥇 Platinum Tier | Kunshanxia, Chanlongxia, Xiangshuihe, Leigongxia These focus on the rafting itself with well-rounded facilities, but the interactive elements are minimal. They're perfect if you just want to enjoy the water. 🥈 Gold Tier | Laohugu, Youlongxia, Wanlvgu, Ping'anxia These are more for leisure and relaxation, focusing on the natural scenery. There aren't many interactive scenes, making them suitable if you're bringing kids or just want a quiet drift. 🥉 Bronze Tier | Chuanlongxia, Shenfengguan, Panlongxia, Qingquanwan, Jinshan Extreme At Qingquanwan, the NPCs are only at the finish line during specific times, featuring Dai dances, fire-breathing, and DJ performances, but there's nothing along the river itself. These spots offer basic rafting experiences, perfect for a casual short trip. ❤️ A final honest thought If what you're really looking for is "constant NPC interaction raids + an exciting river," Gulongxia's Wild Amazon is the only place in Guangdong that truly delivers. The moment those "savages" jump out of the jungle to splash you, it turns an ordinary rafting trip into an adventure game—the experience is top-tier. On these hot days, go for the most exciting experience—just go for it 🌊

Here, half is the azure sea, with shimmering mudflats and pristine islands; the other half is verdant mountains, with tranquil and rustic ancient villages and vibrant streams and waterfalls. There are no crowds, only delightful surprises at every turn. This in-depth 3-day, 2-night guide connects Ningde's sea, mountains, and villages, offering a leisurely and unhurried experience, unlocking the unique romantic mountain and sea scenery of eastern Fujian. 🚗Pre-trip Must-Read|Transportation & Accommodation Guide: Learn from Our Experiences and Avoid Mistakes 🚙Transportation Recommendations【Self-driving is the Best Option for Flexible Mountain and Sea Exploration】 Ningde's attractions are scattered, with mountains and sea interspersed, and some roads are mountainous. Renting a car (SUV is preferred) is the best solution, with daily rental costs 150-200 RMB. Alternatively, you can hire a car for about 300 RMB/day; the driver is familiar with the roads and it's hassle-free. Public Transportation Reference: Take the high-speed train to Ningde Station/Xiapu Station. Between scenic areas, you can take inter-county buses + local public buses, suitable for budget travelers, but it takes a bit longer, and public transportation is inconvenient in some less-visited villages. ✨Special Transportation: To get to Yushan Island, you need to take a boat from Yujing Wharf (50 minutes, round-trip ticket 100 RMB). Be sure to check the tide table in advance to avoid ferry cancellation periods. 🏡Accommodation Recommendations【Easy Retreats Between Mountains and Sea, Divided by Price Range】 🌊Seaside Boutique (Xiapu Section, Sea Views from Every Window) · Xiapu Weilan Yunwan Homestay: A hidden gem of a homestay in Gutong Village, Sansha Town, nestled against the mountains and facing the sea. Afternoon: Head to Changtan Town, where you can see the "One Line Sky" spectacle, or visit Jiuling Village to see the ten-mile lotus pond (if it's in bloom). Meizhou is great, but I truly won’t visit a second time 😭 Just finished a 3-day, 2-night trip to Meizhou and honestly, I have to say: Meizhou is really beautiful, healing, and rich in culture. It’s a rare, peaceful Hakka ancient city in Guangdong with a slow pace. But after the whole trip, I really want to say: the scenery and heritage are perfect, but the travel experience is really exhausting! I understand why many people visit once and never return. It’s not that it’s not beautiful, but there are just too many pitfalls and hidden traps! Here’s a heartfelt, unfiltered, honest review of traveling in Meizhou. If you’re planning to go, make sure to read this before you leave! It’ll help you avoid 90% of the traps!! 🌿First, some serious praise! Meizhou is seriously underrated As the world’s Hakka capital and a thousand-year-old city, Meizhou’s cultural atmosphere, local life vibe, and ancient village charm easily outshine many trendy cities! It’s not over-commercialized, not noisy or competitive. Walking the streets feels relaxed and peaceful like a small town. ✅ Hakka walled houses | Unique Lingnan charm Absolutely stunning! Unlike ordinary ancient town buildings, Meizhou’s exclusive walled houses are a romantic example of traditional Chinese architecture, with semi-circular enclosures, courtyards with corridors, century-old wooden window frames, and old gray brick walls. Sunlight filters through the window grids into the courtyard, casting dappled shadows from the trees. It’s quiet and healing, and every photo looks like a vintage masterpiece. Walking here you can truly feel the weight of Hakka culture and rich history. ✅ Songkou ancient town | Off-the-beaten-path natural water town Completely free of commercialized ancient town clichés! Old streets, old docks, century-old arcade buildings, riverside ancient houses—all preserve the original Lingnan water town style. Sparse crowds, peaceful and healing. Sitting by the river at dusk, feeling the breeze and watching the sunset spread across the water, the slow pace is incredibly relaxing—perfect for daydreaming, strolling, and taking atmospheric lifestyle photos. ✅ Ketiantian scenic area | The pinnacle of Hakka culture Surrounded by mountains and lush greenery, the Hakka-style buildings are built along the hills. During the day, enjoy the antique garden scenery; at night, the gentle lights create a soft atmosphere. The combination of mountains, water, and ancient architecture is elegant and comfortable, ideal for leisurely walks. ✅ Yannanfei tea fields | Healing mountain tea gardens Layer upon layer of green tea fields stretch across the hills. The air is super fresh, and the endless greenery is incredibly soothing! Far from city noise, walking the tea garden paths with the mountain breeze calming you down is the perfect place to relax and breathe deeply. ✅ Meizhou old street | Authentic local life hub The old town streets are full of everyday life. Arcade buildings, old shops, street stalls, and the smell of cooking fill the air. Everywhere you go, you’ll find authentic Hakka snacks like pickled noodles, Sanjidi, salt-baked chicken, stuffed tofu, and brown sugar cake… full of local flavor that food lovers will adore! Just judging by scenery, culture, and food, Meizhou is definitely worth a visit for everyone! Gentle, healing, off the beaten path, and peaceful, it’s a hidden gem travel town in Guangdong! ❌ Why won’t I come again? All based on real pitfalls No smear campaign! Purely honest sharing about the most common traps tourists fall into and details you won’t find in guides! 1. Attractions are extremely spread out! No self-driving? Don’t bother This is Meizhou’s biggest trap!! All the main attractions are scattered across different districts and counties: Meijiang, Meixian, Jiaoling, Dapu, Wuhua… Songkou ancient town, Baihou ancient town, walled houses, Wuzhishi, Yannanfei tea fields, Lingguang Temple—travel time between each is 40–90 minutes! The whole trip is on winding mountain roads plus rural roads, very exhausting! ▪️ Self-driving: many mountain curves, speed limits, busy village roads with mixed traffic. Driving is tiring, and you spend most of the day on the road with little time to enjoy. ▪️ Non-driving: extremely unfriendly!! Bus schedules are sparse with long intervals, almost no cross-district buses, hard to get taxis, high surcharges, and overpriced shared or chartered rides. Independent travelers will really lose their patience! 2. Many attractions are often closed! Wasting a trip Many cultural sites, memorial halls, and exhibition halls in Meizhou are closed on Mondays (except holidays)! Many people excitedly show up only to find the doors locked, wasting the whole trip! Also, many lesser-known walled houses and ancient villages are under renovation. Without checking opening status in advance, you’ll likely get turned away. Online guides are outdated, and many check-in spots have long stopped public access, wasting your itinerary. 3. Food is popular but the chance of disappointment is high Meizhou Hakka cuisine is famous, but the real experience is very hit or miss! ❌ Most trendy restaurants are traps: Salt-baked chicken near attractions and popular check-in spots is mostly pre-made semi-finished products, not fragrant or tender, and tastes ordinary with heavy markups. Popular pickled noodle shops generally have average taste and high prices, nowhere near as authentic as old shops in residential areas. ❌ Meal times are awkward: Local small restaurants have laid-back hours! Many close around 1:30 PM for a break! If you miss lunch, you won’t find food anywhere on the street, and tourists will easily get hungry! ✅ The truly delicious food is all hidden in old town residential areas, not in attractions or trendy streets! 4. Many hidden traps in specialty products and shopping ▪️ Many Hakka niangjiu and yellow wine at attractions are blended, average quality, and expensive. Not recommended. ▪️ Mountain products, mushrooms, and specialties at attractions are overpriced by over 30% compared to city markets. No need to buy there. ▪️ Some ancient villages charge hidden fees for photos. Locals may offer to guide you, then charge you after the photoshoot, which is awkward. 5. Accommodation experience varies greatly, poor value in peak season Meizhou’s trendy and ancient-style homestays are heavily retouched in photos! In reality, they’re often old, small rooms with poor lighting and heavy damp smells. Many are near forests with lots of mosquitoes. Low-priced homestays are remote with inconvenient transport; those near attractions are overpriced with basic facilities and average service. Overall, accommodation value is low. 6. Road conditions and clothing easily cause problems Ancient villages and towns in Meizhou have uneven bluestone paths. High heels and thin-soled shoes are impossible to walk in and very tiring! The mountains have many mosquitoes. Summer is hot and humid, with strong sun during the day and cool evenings. The weather changes often, so if you’re not prepared, the whole trip will be uncomfortable. ✅ Objective summary: Is Meizhou worth visiting? Honestly: it’s worth visiting once in a lifetime, but not for a second trip! ✅ Suitable for: Self-driving travelers, those who love cultural heritage and ancient architecture, prefer slow-paced small towns, dislike crowds, enjoy daydreaming and relaxing, and love niche Hakka cuisine. Best travel time: spring and autumn, with comfortable temperatures, fewer mosquitoes, and mild scenery. ❌ Not suitable for: Independent travelers, lazy tourists, those prone to motion sickness, people who want dense check-ins, seek convenience and ease, or short trips! 📍 Ultimate pitfall avoidance guide | Follow this to avoid traps 1️⃣ Transportation Drive if you can! Avoid non-driving travel! Attractions are too far apart and public transport is very inconvenient. 2️⃣ Travel time Avoid Mondays! Avoid midsummer heat and rainy season! Check exhibition halls and ancient village opening status in advance to avoid wasted trips. 3️⃣ How to enjoy food properly Skip trendy attraction restaurants! Head straight to old town residential area shops! Must-try list: Hakka pickled noodles, Sanjidi soup, authentic freshly baked salt-baked chicken, stuffed tofu, abacus seeds, and mugwort rice cake. 4️⃣ Buying specialties Don’t buy specialties at attractions! For dried goods, alcohol, and mountain products, go to city markets and local old shops for cheaper, authentic options. 5️⃣ Clothing essentials Non-slip soft-soled sneakers, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, light jacket, and sun/rain umbrella! 6️⃣ Visiting etiquette Many walled houses are still lived in by locals. Keep quiet, don’t enter private areas, don’t touch personal belongings, and respect local customs. ✨ Final thoughts Meizhou’s gentleness, ancient charm, and local life vibe are truly irreplaceable. It’s a small town best for quiet appreciation, not for rushing through an itinerary. Once you’ve been and experienced the warmth and depth of the Hakka ancient city, that’s enough. The exhausting itinerary and many hidden traps mean I really don’t have the courage to come a second time 😭

Clinging to familiar work routines for too long often leads to rigid thinking. We get comfortable, becoming reluctant to try new methods or take on new challenges, which can make the team's overall dynamic stagnant and lacking the vibrant energy needed for breakthrough innovations. To break out of this box, we headed to the Shizhai Ancient Village in Jiaoling. Surrounded by mountains and rivers, this historic Hakka village provided the perfect unfamiliar setting for us to explore and forge the courage to push past our limits. Built during the Zhengtong era of the Ming Dynasty, Shizhai Ancient Village is a rare settlement in eastern Guangdong that features both Hakka square mansions and traditional hall-and-cross-house dwellings. The Shizhai River loops around the village like a protective moat, and the square earthen structures from the Jiajing era remain remarkably well-preserved. As a precious architectural relic on the border of Fujian and Guangdong, it carries a millennium of Hakka migration history and a heritage of farming and education. It remains relatively untouched by tourists, retaining its authentic, rustic charm. We ditched the typical sightseeing routes and opted to navigate the village's maze of alleyways and historic ruins ourselves. Some paths along the river were uneven and slippery. At first, a few team members were hesitant, but everyone quickly chimed in with words of encouragement. Those in front led the way, while those in the back waited, and we lent each other a hand to keep moving forward. When faced with unfamiliar forks in the road, we didn't just default to old habits. Instead, everyone pitched in with fresh ideas, bounced thoughts off one another, and adapted on the fly. With the mountain breeze on our faces and an air of ancient history all around us, we let go of our mental boundaries during this journey into the unknown, discovering many unexpected, breathtaking sights along the way. This trip reminded us that whether we're traveling or working, backing down from difficulties only keeps us stuck. But by daring to try and working as a team, we can overcome any obstacle. Moving forward, we're ready to shake off our conservative constraints, boldly innovate, bring new vitality to our team, and stride confidently toward a broader future.

Today, let's explore Peiyuan Hall in Jiaoling, Meizhou. It is not only an exquisite Hakka walled village but also the former residence of Qiu Fengjia, a hero who resisted the Japanese invasion and defended Taiwan. [Historical background: a patriotic spirit expressed in a blood letter] This is the former residence of Qiu Fengjia, also known as Xintai Ping Caolu and Peiyuan Hall, located in Fengjia Village, Wenfu Town, Jiaoling County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. The building was constructed in the 22nd year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty, which is 1896. At that time, Qiu Fengjia returned from Taiwan to Jiaoling with his family to visit relatives and built this residence. Who was Qiu Fengjia? He was a well-known patriot and poet in the late Qing Dynasty who resisted the Japanese invasion and defended Taiwan. He was also an outstanding educator. Born in Miaoli County, Taiwan Province, his ancestral home was in Jiaoling, Meizhou. In the 15th year of Guangxu, he passed the imperial examination and was appointed an official in the Ministry of Works but later resolutely returned to Taiwan. After the outbreak of the First Sino-Japanese War, he angrily wrote a blood letter declaring resistance to the Japanese and personally led militia forces to fight the invaders. Although he was ultimately defeated due to being outnumbered and retreated inland, his heroic deeds and unyielding spirit of defending the land left an indelible mark in modern China’s history of resisting invasion. [Architectural highlights: a reunion dream hidden in the window frames] Qiu Fengjia’s former residence is a very typical traditional Hakka dwelling, featuring the layout of two halls, four horizontal wings, and one walled enclosure. The entire complex consists of a moon pond, grain yard, main hall, flower chamber, walled enclosure, and horizontal wings. The building is 48 meters wide and 60.30 meters deep, containing 55 rooms. Although the overall style of the residence is simple and unadorned without excessive decoration, it hides a very special secret. If you carefully observe the side walls of the upper and lower halls, you will find that the window shapes resemble the Chinese characters for “Tai” or “He.” Above the ancestral hall, there are three such windows on both the north and south sides, six in total, cleverly symbolizing “Liu He” (six harmonies). This is not only an architectural aesthetic but also Qiu Fengjia’s heartfelt hope for the early great reunion of the motherland. Entering the main gate, you can see a couplet personally composed by Qiu Fengjia: “Cultivate the younger generation, carry forward the ancestors’ virtues.” This means to wholeheartedly nurture and educate future generations so they can strive to inherit the fine traditions and virtues left by their ancestors. It is worth mentioning that the residence originally preserved many hall names and couplets written by famous Qing Dynasty figures and calligraphers, carrying high artistic value. Unfortunately, during this visit, the interior was not open to the public and cannot be shown at this time. [Heritage protection level] As a Hakka walled village with profound ethnic cultural significance and historical value, Qiu Fengjia’s former residence was officially designated as a national key cultural relic protection unit in the sixth batch announced in May 2006. [Travel guide] If you want to experience this rich history, here is some information: The location is Fengjia Village, Wenfu Town, Jiaoling County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. For self-driving, simply navigate to “Jiaoling Qiu Fengjia former residence” for easy access.

✨Historical background Shizhai Village is located in Nanqi Town, Jiaoling County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. The Guo family ancestor settled in Shizhai from Zhushan, Minhang in the 14th year of the Ming dynasty’s Zhengtong reign (1449). The ancient village is nestled by the mountains and water. Behind the village, Mount Ma stands tall. The Shizhai River, like a moat, winds from north to south, encircling the village. 🏡 Architectural highlights Throughout Shizhai Village, you can find various Hakka ancient buildings such as beam-style buildings, Zouma buildings, square tulou, and Tang-style houses, each with distinct forms and styles. The most famous are two Hakka tulou listed as Guangdong provincial cultural relics: the square tulou built in the first year of the Ming dynasty’s Jiajing reign (1522) (photos 2–6) and the Shude Building built in the first year of the Qing dynasty’s Kangxi reign (1662) (photos 8–10). The former is the earliest dated square tulou still standing in the Min-Yue region. Unfortunately, on June 16, 2024, heavy rain caused a once-in-a-century flash flood in many parts of Meizhou, destroying the square tulou (photo 7, news image). Restoration remains uncertain, and it’s unknown if these photos will become the final portrait of this 500-year-old tulou. 📜 Protection status As the southernmost limit of the Minxi Hakka square tulou distribution and the boundary with the Hakka Weilong houses in eastern Guangdong’s Meizhou, the Shizhai tulou (including the square tulou, Loude Building, and Guo family ancestral hall) were designated Guangdong provincial cultural relics in July 2002. Shizhai Village has also been recognized as a Chinese historical and cultural village and listed in the directory of traditional Chinese villages. 🚗 Travel guide Address: Shizhai Village, Nanqi Town, Jiaoling County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province Admission: free Transportation: drive and navigate to “Jiaoling Shizhai tulou” for direct access

My "ideal life" and I drove for four hours, from Shenzhen to Jiaoling, from city to countryside. The scenery outside the car window gradually changed from towering buildings to rice paddies and green mountains. My heart, like a cloud returning home, suddenly settled down. Jiaoling, named after a banana grove in the north of the city, is a small town blessed by the title of "World Longevity Town." Here, "relaxation" is not a luxury, but an everyday breath. 🌿 People don't rush to catch the subway, but only for the freshest aroma of vegetables at the morning market; 🌿 They don't worry about sky-high mortgages, but simply tend to their flowers and plants in their own courtyards; 🌿 They don't push their children too hard, but instead pass down the simplest family tradition of farming and scholarship. When I met Mr. Lin, a local entrepreneur, he was nearly sixty, but when he talked about agriculture, his eyes still shone with a youthful light. And then there are my teacher colleagues, and my good friends who returned to their hometowns to run their own small businesses. Though separated by mountains and the passage of time, we still feel like old friends whenever we meet, sharing countless stories of dawn and dusk. The people of Jiaoling possess a kind of grounded and bright spirit, deeply rooted in the land. 【Jiaoling Through the Eyes of Mu|Mu】: 📜 It's very "old," so old that you can touch the patriotic poems of Qiu Fengjia from the late Qing Dynasty, you can walk into the ancestral home of the contemporary mathematical giant Qiu Chengtong, and feel the legendary story of the Hakka people, "one branch spreading its leaves, covering the world." 🏞️ It's very "green," so green that the forest coverage rate is nearly 80%, and the negative oxygen ions in the air seem to cleanse your lungs. 🚄 It's also undergoing "renewal." The Meizhou-Longyan High-Speed Railway is under construction, which will open a new window for this blessed land of health and wellness. Of course, there are also authentic local flavors to tantalize your taste buds: 🍲 A must-try is the provincial-level intangible cultural heritage "Sanjidi Soup," a bowl of which warms and soothes the stomach; 🍛 "Huangban," made with gardenia ash alkaline water, is soft, glutinous, and savory—a unique Hakka wisdom found nowhere else; 🦆 Secretly braised duck, fresh duck eggs, fragrant black pork, crucian carp soup stewed with river yellow grass, Ganoderma lucidum pork balls, naturally ripened bananas… Food is this land's most sincere self-introduction. If you're tired of chasing sunsets amidst the glass curtain walls of the CBD, perhaps you should visit Jiaoling. Here, there's a kind of happiness called "growing up slowly and naturally in your own time zone, becoming what you should be." What is small-town life like in your eyes? 🌟Here, I use my lens to collect the traces of time, to accompany you in seeing the poetry hidden in the everyday, and awaken the "photographer's eye" within you.👀

Jiaoling, Guangdong, under the jurisdiction of Meizhou City, is known as the "World Longevity Hometown," "China's Green Famous County," and the "Original Hakka Cultural Homeland." The county's average negative oxygen ion concentration exceeds 3000/cm³, and the proportion of centenarians ranks among the top in the country. Surrounded by mountains and water with a long cultural heritage, it features poetic terraced hillsides, ancient Buddhist grottoes and temples with millennia of Zen spirit, and the Hakka people's spiritual totem of "farming and studying to pass down the family legacy." Below are four of the most representative attractions to take you into this quiet and abundant secret of eastern Guangdong. 1. Changtan Town · Changtan Tourist Area (The Most Beautiful Water in Eastern Guangdong) The largest artificial lake in the upper Han River, the lake stretches 30 kilometers in a winding shape like a jade belt nestled among the mountains, known as the "Sun Moon Lake of Lingnan." Taking a boat tour, you can see wonders such as the "One Line Sky" gorge, Monkey Island, and Mandarin Duck Beach; climbing the "Wangjiang Pavilion," you can gaze at the "Changtan Waterfall" hanging on a cliff, with mist swirling like fairy aura. The lake area is also a wintering ground for the nationally first-class protected Chinese merganser, visible from November to March each year. Boating at dusk, with the sunset melting gold and fishing lights twinkling, every scene is picturesque. 2. Sanzhen Town · Fangxin Village · Former Residence of Qiu Fengjia (The Spiritual Homeland of the Patriotic Poet) Qiu Fengjia, a late Qing dynasty patriot who resisted Japanese invasion and an educator, was born here. His former residence is a typical Hakka walled house with blue bricks and gray tiles arranged in a quadrangle courtyard. Inside is a life exhibition hall displaying manuscripts, poetry collections, and historical materials on "resisting the Japanese and protecting Taiwan." Behind the house is the "Peilan Study Room," where he studied as a child, still retaining the fragrance of ink. The village also preserves the "Fengjia Memorial Pavilion," the old site of Jiaoling Middle School, and a thousand-mu ecological tea garden—visitors can experience tea picking and making while reciting the poem "Spring Sorrow": "Four million people weep as one, cutting Taiwan on this day last year..." Here, historical warmth and pastoral poetry blend. 3. Wenfu Town · Yangnai Village · Former Residence of Lin Fengmian (The Hometown of the Founder of Modern Chinese Art Education) The birthplace of Lin Fengmian, a pioneer of modern Chinese painting. The former residence is a Qing dynasty Hakka house, renovated into the "Lin Fengmian Memorial Hall," exhibiting ink wash paintings, manuscripts, and interpretations of his "East-West fusion" artistic philosophy. The village features the "Fengmian Art Trail," with murals and installation art along the way echoing his classics like "Spring Sunshine" and "Ladies"; even more surprisingly, the entire village’s rice fields are planted in color zones inspired by his paintings—spring yellow, summer green, autumn gold, and winter brown—creating a flowing "earth oil painting" all year round. 4. Nanzhai Town · Huangyoubǐ Nature Reserve (A Biodiversity Treasure in Eastern Guangdong) Located on the southern slope of the Lotus Mountain Range, the main peak Huangyoubǐ rises 1170 meters, with 96% original forest coverage. It is one of the few vertical ecological belts in eastern Guangdong featuring fir, rhododendron, and moss. The area has crystal-clear streams, including "Fairy Pool," "Nine-Tier Waterfall," and the largest contiguous wild cycad forest in South China. Over 1,800 species of vascular plants have been recorded, including rare species like Bole Tree and Southern Yew; 237 bird species are present, with white pheasants and red-billed leiothrixes frequently seen year-round. Recommended light hiking route: Huangyoubǐ Mountain Trail (about 2.5 hours). At the summit, you can watch the sea of clouds surge and peaks roll like waves; in the morning mist, you might spot squirrels leaping and tits flitting—truly a "forest breathing" sanctuary. 📌 Practical Tips: Jiaoling is accessible by high-speed rail (Meishan High-Speed Rail "Jiaoling Station"), about 2 hours from Guangzhou/Shenzhen; county attractions are scattered, so self-driving or booking a local guide is recommended. Must-try foods: Jiaoling stuffed tofu (smooth and fragrant), Sanzhen beef balls (springy and crisp), Changtan braised rice, and high mountain cloud mist tea. Best seasons: March to May (flower viewing and tea picking), October to December (colorful autumn and hot spring wellness). Come to Jiaoling to see a lake reflecting green mountains, visit two former residences to understand family and country, walk a mountain path listening to birdsong, and savor a cup of clear tea to keep your heart true—here, quietly, the secrets of longevity, cultural roots, and the spirit of the landscape are all subtly written into every leaf vein and every mountain breeze.

#NovemberDestinations2025 #China #Guangdong #ArtMuseum #IntangibleCulturalHeritageMuseum A visit to the Guangzhou Art Museum. These ceramic sculptures are quite impressive, aren't they? A scene from the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, also very captivating. The abandoned building next to the Guangzhou Garden Hotel has finally opened. The new building is very grand, with retro streets and remaining old neighborhoods of Guangzhou. Over twenty years ago, I stayed at the White Swan Hotel across the river and also on the newest Guangzhou Metro Line 11, which has the most carriages! #GardenHotel #GuangdongMetro #WhiteSwanHotel
