Jeep Kalam→Mahodand 3,000–4,000 PKR/share, or walk the Ushu forest road 8 km to Ushu Forest Camp (2 hrs) free. Foreigners: carry passport, checkpoints Peshawar→Mingora log you, standard e-visa needed (VPA suspended Jan 2026). I bus'd Islamabad→Mingora (800 PKR), Mingora→Kalam (200 PKR), slept in Kalam, walked the Ushu road at 07:00. Mistake: I came May 20 and the track had a snow drift at the last bend—June 1+ only. Another: I wore trail runners and the Ushu forest clay sucked them off; approach shoes.
