Day one passes runs the Fraser Canyon: at Hell’s Gate the train slows, and a mossy basalt ledge sits 20 m from the window, the canyon spray keeping it green year-round. You can’t get off between Vancouver and Kamloops—it’s a sightseeing train, not a hop-on. I brought binoculars, watched bald eagles, and noted the moss line: below it, dry sage; above it, douglas fir and emerald moss carpet. Mistake: I expected wilderness solitude. It’s a luxury carriage with prosecco. Worth Go for the glass-dome view, not the silence. A host poured shared his grandmother’s Sask smoked salmon and said “the moss doesn’t care about the linen tablecloths.” Is a train window a viewpoint, or a frame that owns the moss?

Absolutely loved the Rocky Mountaineer journey from Banff to Vancouver, including the overnight stop in Kamloops. We traveled in Silverleaf, which was truly fantastic. While their social media often highlights the Goldleaf option, Silverleaf offered great value for the money. The food was plentiful, delicious, and provided a variety of options. Once a meal was complete, they served drinks and snacks, which was a wonderful touch. In Silverleaf, you remain seated, enjoying the breathtaking views through the panoramic carriages. Watching the scenery pass by from the train was a memorable experience. It was great to access the vestibules between carriages where the stable doors were open, letting you capture photos of the scenery or even glimpses of the entire train on curves. The hosts in our carriage were exceptional, consistently updating us on wildlife sightings and sharing interesting historical facts about the various parts of the route. It was fun to wave at the Rocky Mountaineer super-fan who comes out to greet the trains as they pass. At times, the journey slowed or stopped to allow freight trains to pass—these trains were impressively long. However, this could delay arrival times in Kamloops and Vancouver, a factor to consider for any onward travel plans. Another thoughtful touch was the transfer of luggage directly to our final destination, which saved us from having to navigate Vancouver late at night while carrying heavy suitcases. Overall, this trip was an unforgettable experience!

Another bucket list adventure ticked off. I loved this entire journey from Banff to Vancouver, which we completed on 3rd Aug. The crew were fabulous—very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly without being overbearing at all. A big thank you to Sean, Nour, Dillan, and Carston. The menu choice was good, and the food was delicious. We did Gold Leaf, so dining took place downstairs at a shared table. We dined with fellow Brits one time and with two lovely American ladies another time. It was fabulous to mix with other people. Due to smoke in the air, I limited my time outside, though it was great to step out and take in the views when I could. At the start of the journey, there was a minor hiccup where a fault in the computer system led to our seats being double-booked by other passengers. Thankfully, the crew quickly resolved the issue. The first leg of our journey took much longer than expected, as we frequently had to pull into sidings to let long cargo trains pass. This added about two extra hours, causing us to arrive at our hotel in Kamloops around 22:30hrs—too late to see anything of the town, which was disappointing. The dress code onboard is definitely casual. Dress for comfort and warmth—it was quite cool on the first day, and many passengers kept their jackets or jumpers on. The scenery throughout the journey was beautiful, though I personally preferred day two. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and am so glad to have done it. While it might seem like a lot for a two-day scenic rail journey, the whole experience was completely worth it for me.

We booked the Gold Leaf experience from Vancouver to Banff. Unfortunately, the first day of the train was canceled due to wildfires, and we received the notification at 10 PM the night before departure. Despite this last-minute hiccup, they impressively arranged a fleet of buses, which couldn’t have been an easy task. Though the buses weren’t very comfortable, they had bathrooms, and the staff, especially Vivek, worked tirelessly to make the best out of a challenging situation. Seeing the fires from the bus, we felt grateful to be safe. The bus ride cut the day shorter compared to the train schedule, but we arrived in Kamloops in time for dinner. The Hampton Inn was clean, cozy, and well-organized when handling luggage. Overall, they managed the last-minute changes commendably. The next day, we boarded the train, and it was a delightful experience. The food was exceptional—though there was more than enough to go around—and drinks were offered nonstop. The upstairs sitting area provided lovely views but felt a bit cramped for those seated by the window if they needed to move. Downstairs featured the dining area and an outdoor space. The dining area got rather lively at times, but the food was outstanding. Sadly, moving between cars wasn’t allowed, which, given the constant eating and drinking, made missing the second day of the train less bothersome. Special mentions go to Jenn, who was fantastic, and the other soft-spoken gentleman, who was kind but nearly impossible to hear over the microphone. When someone pointed it out, he whispered that he was “soft spoken,” which was almost amusing. Despite that, he was very pleasant.

We just returned from an amazing trip to Canada. One of the highlights was the Rocky Mountaineer Train. Although intended to be a two-day train journey, the ride was shortened to one day due to wildfires. Rocky Mountaineer did everything possible to make the first day special. Since the fires required us to travel by bus to Kamloops, the staff (including Zack, who stood tall at 6'7", and a friendly young lady) worked hard to keep us happy and comfortable. On the second day, we boarded the train and immediately started enjoying ourselves. From the outset, we ate, drank, laughed, and had a fantastic time. We had purchased the gold leaf package, and it was absolutely worth it. While I can’t comment on the silver leaf experience, our food was phenomenal, the drinks were served consistently, and the service was impeccable. I can’t praise the train journey enough. Actually, we’re now looking into the Canyon Spirit route with Rocky Mountaineer, and we’re expecting another wonderful adventure.

They showed immense politeness and worked tirelessly to ensure everyone had an enjoyable experience. The scenery from the train was stunning—truly remarkable throughout the journey. The luggage service was seamless; we left our luggage at the train station, and it arrived in our hotel room in Kamloops. The same happened when we traveled onward to Vancouver. Once on the train, everything was included, and if you're booking, definitely choose GoldLeaf over SilverLeaf. The boarding experience, complete with being piped aboard, was fantastic. Our seats in Gold Leaf class were spacious, comfortable, and well-furnished. Both days offered outstanding food, drinks, and service—the Rocky Mountaineer staff worked hard to keep us informed, well-fed, and hydrated. All of this was accompanied by the breathtaking scenery of the Rockies! We arrived at Kamloops for our overnight stop right on schedule and boarded the coach to the hotel. While the overnight hotel (Hampton) had no restaurant, we easily found a meal at another hotel across the street. The meal was good, and this minor inconvenience was outweighed by the Hampton’s large, comfortable room with our luggage already delivered. Early pick-up the following morning was smooth, and we reboarded the train for another delightful day. We arrived in Banff as planned and bid farewell to the excellent staff—Joey, Mauro, Sean, Domenica, and chef Khat—who had taken such good care of us throughout. We bonded with friendly passengers during meals, and all of the food was truly delicious. Every moment of this journey was unforgettable, and we look forward to returning for the Journey through the Clouds!

We cannot recommend this experience more highly. Yes, you spend 12 hours each day on the train, but the 'Journey Through the Clouds' from Jasper to Vancouver, spanning two days with a Kamloops stopover, is truly exceptional. First off, the entire operation is impressively smooth and professional. The online check-in and the Welcome Pack (collected the day before travel) are incredibly informative. The hotel pick-up was perfectly on time, and tagged luggage was conveniently handled—appearing in the Kamloops hotel room, left there for collection the next day, and effortlessly placed on the coach in Vancouver for hotel drop-off. Secondly, the Gold Leaf service is remarkable. It's best described as an 'Emirates Business Class on rails.' The seats on the upper deck are luxurious leather with generous legroom, providing excellent views. Drinks and snacks are served at your seat, and they are plentiful and of high quality. The onboard Hosts offer insightful and informative commentary without being intrusive. Meals are served in the lower deck dining room, freshly prepared by an onboard Chef (one for each carriage), and are of outstanding quality, paired with excellent wines. Most importantly, the views are breathtaking and change dramatically from Day One to Day Two. They are beyond imagination, and we were fortunate to have beautiful weather. A word of advice: don’t be tempted by the savings of traveling in Silver Leaf. While we haven’t tried Silver Leaf, it lacks an upper deck, which likely means spending much of the journey looking at trees rather than over them.

Had the Silverleaf experience onboard, traveling from Banff to Vancouver with an overnight stop in Kamloops. The entire journey was flawless, offering top-notch service from beginning to end. From the moment we boarded in Banff, including a brief stop at Lake Louise, we were impeccably taken care of throughout. The food was outstanding (special thanks to Shirin), and the hardworking team looking after us all day did an incredible job. There was an abundance of food and drinks, and the fun, informative commentary by the crew (thank you Taylor and Leigh) added to the experience. The views were, of course, breathtaking, with some areas only accessible from the train. Breakfast and lunch menus were impressively diverse, incorporating local ingredients. One breakfast featured Smoked Steelhead, Spinach, and Feta Frittata, and a lunch main included Fraser Valley Chicken. During the overnight stop in Kamloops, our luggage was conveniently delivered straight to our hotel room and then seamlessly managed, meeting us in Vancouver at the trip's conclusion. The entire experience was incredibly well-organized by the company, right down to the exclusive pin badge marking our 2026 journey. It was a spectacular, once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

My sister and I took the Peak to Peak 2-day/one-night train from Banff to Kamloops to Jasper, and WOW!!! I can hardly find the words to describe how amazing it was. I hope I have the names right—John, Amelia, Carla, and Chris—all of them, along with our chefs, were outstanding! From the moment we were picked up at our hotel to when we reached our final destination, we were pampered non-stop. I've never experienced such excellent treatment. The staff, the food, the stunning views of the Canadian Rockies, and the narration about what we were seeing—everything was top-notch. And the meals! From the incredible breakfast to the snacks, drinks, lunch, and all the constant "Do you need anything?" moments—they truly went above and beyond. This crew was extraordinary! Hands down, one of the best trips I’ve ever been on!
